It is one of my favourites in Varanasi. The vibe and the food, both are great.The Ramen, Katsu Don, Shouga yaki Don, etc. I have loved it all.The timing is 10AM - 3PMand (3-5)PM. You can eat at the cafe and order takeout as well. The cafe owners are very humble. ❤️

I love Japanese cuisine, because of this delightful restaurant. The food is so good here, that I am writing this review from Bengaluru, in an afternoon. I dreamt of eating here. The last time I had food here was three years ago may be when I went for my convocation at my college. The service is fantastic! The lady who cooks is brilliant! Best!!

Apart from being an excellent Japanese food destination its staff is overly humble and well behaved. It is a kind of place where you have to remove your shoes prior to enter its dinning lounge . And your dining ends with a lovely Namaste. Manners well served.

The food was very good. And the hospitality was also very pleasing. The only down side was that the washbasin. And no pork.

Best Japanese food weve tried in India after 2 months of travelling. Staff were professional and warm, ambience was quaint and meticulously clean. Came here for dinner one night and returned the next - planning on coming here for lunch too. Unbelievable Sushi and Katsu Don, highly recommend this little Varanasi gem.

If you want to find a safe haven for food during travel in India, this is the place. This is a real homemade style Japanese food place, which is hard to find in India. Rice bowl was great. A bit disappointed for the ramen. I heard the will be closing for 2 months for vacation. So please call ahead.

It is really an amazing experience to visit this place. In a narrow lane adjacent to vishwanat temple, you find a Japanese cafe, run by an indo-japanese couple. Food is good and one should must experience it.

A veritable gem in the rough. Doesnt get more hole-in-the-wall than this. Very small place and a little hard to find but just look for the signs painted on the alleyways directing you down a small side alley. Food service and hospitality were great. They had veg shrimp and chicken options!

I rarely assign 5 stars to any location but this little restaurant in the alleys of ancient Varanasi deserves each one of them. This small family run restaurant is in a quieter back alley and is worth the effort of getting there. Genuine Japanese food enjoyed by many of the Japanese people in Varanasi. This is probably the best Japanese food I have ever had granted I have never visited Japan. However I have eaten Japanese food all across Europe and this is superior to all of it. Not only is the preparation fresh (I saw the husband leave to buy ingredients for the wife later used in my meal after placing my order) and genuinely home made but the prices are very good. About 250 rupees per dish. Good portions too. There wasnt any fish on the menu at the time of visiting and this is probably a good thing considering the restaurant is in Varanasi. There are chicken and vegetable options though and they are all delicious and clean. The food is traditional Japanese home cooking. A MUST VISIT IF YOU ARE IN VARANASI.

Small, quaint, hidden away, great food. Japanese and Indian couple run place, authentic cooking.

I ate frequently here last year for the consistently nourishing meals during the winter season. This year I came back for the healthy meals but also discovered the cold drinks, easily the best cold coffee in Varanasi. The I also discovered the prawns have gotten fatter since I was last there making all the dishes with shrimp particularly welcome if you are looking for a substantial, well cooked meal. This is good healthy food, not a lot of spices and oils that you find everywhere else. Great hub also for keeping in touch with what is happening in the city. Cannot recommend this place enough, wish I was there right now.

Varanasis cleanest and tastiest food is made at Megu cafe by CHEF MEGU herself who gets authentic spices for the food specially from Japan. So i would say great work on the flavor as well as heart and soul. Lots of love :)

Best and cleanest place we have found in Varanasi. The Katsu Don was delicious, tasted very authentic (the cook is a Japanese woman who is very sweet). The place is air conditioned which was a great relief! Our neighbouring table were Koreans that also loved the food (had the Katsu Don and Ramen). Highly recommend this place. Was a life saver within the rest of Varanasi, which we really had some trouble with. They take a break between 3 and 5pm ;-)

If you searching for authentic Japanese food in the streets of Varanasi, megu cafe is the best sorted out place. The owner here is herself a Japanese woman named megu, who likes to serve her guest the best sushis she makes from her own hands. They prepare the best ramen with egg white which was very refreshing and good. We also tried mango sherbet which was very sweet. It was my first sushi experience and it was an awesome one.

The open hours listed here are not correct. Several times I’ve come here to find it closed. Further more, there is no sign with hours anywhere on the front of the shop. Also the phone number listed here doesn’t work, so don’t bother trying to call first to confirm if they are open before making a difficult trip across Varanasi in the heat for the sole purpose of eating here.

After roughing it around India for 3 weeks(at this point), Indian food lovers that my wife and I are we were ready for a change of pace. The two of us were simply blown away by the massive punch of awesomeness this little cafe delivered. Doubling as a Korean and Japanese restaurant in the belly of the ancient and holy monster of a city Varanasi, Megu offered an extensive menu of deliciousness for such a small operation. The decor, very clean and wonderfully simple, left us feeling as if we were transported to Japan!I ordered the bibimbap, my wife the ramen. We enjoyed our meals so much that we ordered chicken katsudon and bim bim bap to go(which came in legitimate to go box complete with re-usable bag with the cafe’s name on it!). And the prices were very fair. Definitely drop by, except on Mondays when they are closed.
