A super cute, artsy and pretty well-known public art display. While its called Prada Marfa, it should be called Prada Valentine since its much closer to that town than it is to Marfa. This is actually about 30 minutes away from Marfa but still worth a visit. Its quite literally just that, a Prada store (that doesnt actually sell anything) on the side of a small highway in the middle of the desert. Theres an area on the side of the road where cars can pull over and you can easily walk up to the place.
An unexpected visit to this site while visiting my sister and brother in law proved to be interesting. This small building in the middle of what seems like nowhere was unique in itself. I have never been a Prada girl but I have heard enough about the name to appreciate their products. Additionally, the love locks that are placed on the fence around the building was an added surprise and beautiful. 😊
In the middle of nowhere, it’s 45 minutes from Marfa in a small “town” called Valentine, Texas. It’s neat to see, but I would’ve been extremely disappointed if I had gone out of my way to this place down. My favorite part was meeting the other people who had also stopped in learning where they were from. And 80-year-old on a bicycle rode by as he traveled from San Diego California to Jacksonville Florida.
It was fun, but the clerk wouldn’t let us in because we were wearing Gucci face masks. We have been wanting to visit here for years and finally made it. It was fun watching all the people posing in front of the “store”. It was real windy on our visit, had to drive through some dust storms even! If you are in the area stop by, day or night, it a interesting place.
Have to admit this is pretty cool...but it is like 45 minutes one way outside of Marfa. It is really not the Marfa Prada, it is the Valentine Prada. Valentine is a few closed buildings that used to be a town. Worth a stop if you have a couple hours to kill or if it is on your way. Marfa is a cool funky little town in its own right.
Ok lets take this for what it is. Is it a place that youll want to visit more than once, no. Is it a place that youll spend hours at, definitely not. However, if you are in the area, driving that way on your way somewhere, etc then it is definitely a must stop. Pull over, take some photos, look at the building, and the few quirky stuff around it and move on. Just one of those iconic road trip places you have to see once.
Prada Marfa is a must stop even if youre not a Handbag and/or Shoe lover. How amazing is it driving down the 90 and you see a small building. Carefully pull over and go check it out. 2005 season of Prada Handbags and Shoes are displayed in a replica of a Prada Store. So cute. The locks on the fence Im not 100% sure about but I believe they are lovers and some mourning loved ones. Theyre very touching. I got a sense of happiness sadness and relief while walking near them
Mini Prada store. Its an art installationAround the Prada store is a fence where people leave locks. They lock the locks to the fence. There was a person selling locks across the road, they also had cold water. Its worth the stop along the way into Marfa, Tx. Bring a lock or a momento to lock on the fence. It was neat to see 4 little locks in the same space on the fence. I think it was a family that locked the locks.Be sure to take a picture in front of the mini Prada store to feel like a giant.
Nice place to visit. Its great to take pictures but if you want to have a great experience make sure to bring a tripod since is on the side of the highway and a selfie wont capture the whole building view. You might also want to bring a lock to leave it again the fence. I really dont know what it means but you can say you were here and have a key to a lock somewhere. Have Fun and enjoy THE PRADA STORE.
This art installation has been on my radar for YEARS, so when I decided to take a road trip across west TX, it was on the top of the list of weird stuff to visit. Prada Marfa is situated along a long, open, empty highway about 40 miles outside of Marfa, TX. I found that the best time to go is sunset, as the sun sets to the right of the installation, making for a stellar photograph. Keep in mind that this is a popular “influencer” spot, so it is highly likely that you’ll run into some folks dressed to the nines taking 10,000 photos to capture the moment (or the light) “just right.” However, the experience is super cool in a “Hey, look at me! I’m super chill and road trip spontaneously!” kind of way, and definitely worth a visit.
Its a great idea and just a lot of fun. If you havent already read or heard the stories, this is a sealed-off mini Prada boutique with 2000s-vintage Prada products on the shelves inside. Great for photo ops, great for reflection, great for a stop to catch your breath by the highway. Bring a lock to clasp onto the fence and leave your mark for future visitors as well.
It’s a beautiful drive, but there is not much in the area so Prada Marfa is a great little stopping spot and photo opp.The surrounding fence is also really interesting.I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to see it, but it was a neat roadside spot!
Cool touristic attraction. It is a work by an artist. It is not a real store. It holds real merchandise from 2005 when it was built. Supposedly the door is sealed.Shoes are all right side to discourage thieves. Its just a place for a cool photo and move on.Its actually not in Marfa, its in Valentine, TX which is around 30 minutes from Marfa.
Look... it’s a cool thing out in the desert but tbh it’s the kind of thing you definitely only do once, which ig is half the fun. It’s actually 30 minutes outside of Marfa but once you’ve dedicated time to driving out from Dallas you might as well go! Marfa is pretty cool and has cute shops and restaurants!
Clever faux Prada store in the middle of nowhere was unique and entertaining.
Not a sculpture, if it is art, it might qualify as Installation Art. Its a storefront on a section of Texas highway. Popular with a certain set.My interest is more piqued by the large number of commitment locks on the fence behind it.Anyway popular selfie spot.Drivers: watch out for pedestrians.Pedestrians: watch out for vehicle traffic, some of those trucks dont slow down once they leave out North from Valentine.
Its a cute art installation! Surrounding it is a love lock fence. If you didnt bring your own lock ... theres a couple across the highway selling locks, cold drinks amazing salsas and jellies! Prada Marfa is a super fun stop on a Texas road trip!
Went here twice, only because its on the way to Marfa, so regardless if you care to or not, you will be stopping by if youre headed that way. There can be really long lines for people taking photo ops, including obnoxious Instagram moms who need 50 fake poses with their unwilling kids. People drag professional photo equipment out there, so if you want a quick photo, run up and take one, otherwise youll have to wait for people to finish their over the top shoots.
A cool Prada display building (Their Art) in the middle of nowhere. On my way out from Big Bend National Park, I stayed in Marfa, then on the way to the interstate to get back to Calif, I stopped by this little display building out in the middle of nowhere (Art) and decided to JUMP. I used my camera remote to snap the shot. Side Note: There are MANY padlocks on the fence behind this building.
So happy that we rambled through west Texas back in 2016 JUST to check this off of my Texas Bucket List — such a fun thing. As a 5th generation Texan from the complete opposite side of the state, west Texas is a whole other planet. It’s a total vibe and I looooove it.The love lock fence, located behind the building, had just started when we made our stop.It may be cliché to some but this place really is a cool photo op and a must see. ⚡️🖤
Art in the middle of West Texas?!?!Unexpected and cute. Keeps the drip through Texas interesting. We visited during a road trip. Very barren surrounding the building, but this is a nice tourist site.
Quick stop unless you are a Prada fanatic... then you might be trying to figure out how to get the purses out and snapping 1,000 snapchat and instagram photos. Its missing a few letters on one of the Prada signs and you have to stand in the middle of the road to get a good picture, so keep your head on a swivel.
The roadside museum/attraction was a quick visit. A must see when in Valentine and Marfa because of the novelty. I highly suggest listening to the interview with the artists who made it that you can find on the Ballroom Marfa website.
I mean it’s a Prada shop in the middle of the desert. The idea of it is fun and a nice road stop along a lonesome highway. But it really isn’t in Marfa. It’s not even in Valentine. It’s outside of it. But you know whatever Marfa is more known for its minimalist and conceptual art works pioneered by Judd. Not so much the instagrammy stuff you see pop up these days.
Definitely worth a look if you are in the area
Kitschy little art installation. Its a novelty to see. Not worth going out of the way, however, worth a stop if youre passing by.
I dont get it? So many useful things that could have been done with the money spent on this.
Pretty neat . Not much to review here other than it’s cool. Seeing it when it’s just at sunset or sunrise is probably the best . I passed through on January 2 2021 for a sunset photo. When I passed back by after dark , it seems the lights inside dont currently work , they just flicker, making the building hard to see. I’ve seen some great night shots, so I was hoping to get one. You really can’t see much after dark right now, so make the trip during the day .
Different. Original. Creative. Would never have thought l would find something like this in the desert highway. The locks placed on fence beside and in back of the display are awesome as well. Thank you to whomever thought of this. Loved it!
Prada Marfa is such a cool experience. I was here around 7:30 this morning so I was the only one which was nice. It was also my first time in a desert, so that was even more incredible! I recommend coming even if its only a one time/bucket list thing, the vastness of the desert alone is worth it and this art installation is the cherry on top.
Interesting place to visit. The building is almost as interesting as all the bloggers taking selfies and posting about their find. Unfortunately at sunset and for 30 mins after the lights didnt come on. Maybe Prada didnt pay their electric bill. It was a fun visit and the railroad tracks at sunset were gorgeous!
Since articles were first published in late 2005 on the Prada Marfa art installation, this has been on my destination list. Yes, out in the middle of nowhere, on highway 90, a couple miles west of Valentine, here sits the Prada store. The fence surrounding it has become the latest place for padlocks so be sure to bring one along to leave. By the time we left, four more vehicles arrived with passengers eager to see this little oasis. Tumbleweeds in the corner of the fence adds to the Texas charm.
Pretty cool little place. Desolate. Saw some vultures out there. Kind of like the hills have eyes out there. If you have Verizon. Not great service.
Neat but so not worth the drive from Marfa unless you happen to be passing through.
Fun place to stop and add a love lock. Was end of day when we stopped so sunset was nice.
Such a quirky thing to see out in the middle of a Texas highway! Fair number of people there taking photos. Needs a little cleaning. I consider it the start of the Marfa art scene.
The store employee was very nice, gentle and fast service, a bit expensive but worth it 👌
This year is Prada Marfas Sweet 16! It is an iconic roadside attraction and must see if youre in the area. Its fun to read up about the installations intended anti-materialism message and how its since taken on a life of its own beyond what the artists could have imagined for it. Despite several incidents of vandalism and theft in the past, Prada Marfa has been restored each time and currently looks better than ever. Perfect for a photo op-- The Desert wears Prada.
Prada Marfa is a site specific art construction on Texas route 90, essentially in the middle of nowhere, built in 2005, designed to give a surreal jolt to the 75 mph travelers speeding by. In one photo, Maria Elena pretends to window shop as I selfie in the “store”s mirror. The store stock is from Prada’s 2005 collection, & the front door is always locked. Folks photos posted on Google Maps are endlessly imaginative - thanks to all!
I think we need to petition a name change to Prada Valentine. Give Valentine some LOVE!
Cool experience. We were privy to a model shoot apparently. Not actually in Marfa, however, in a small town called Valentine.
A magical place!Expensive, nothing on sale.Prices and check out counters are difficult to find.Only one shoe size was available. And only for one foot. Per style.
Been here twice. Super cool photo opp.
This place is pretty cool. Watch out for all the rude New Yorkers hogging the space for photo shoots. Dang Yankees!
One of my favorite things to see and photograph. They cleaned it up quite a bit. Everything looks new. Truly something to see when you’re out in the middle of nowhere.
Took my wife here to check it out, got some good pictures and she was happy. Thats what counts;)
⚡Juxtaposition of hyper materialism & natural beauty of widespread nature as far as the eye can see. A B S U R D⚡⚫🟡 @gabrielcraft.me 🟡⚫the juxtaposition of a consumerist icon with broad swathes of undeveloped desert kept me staring and hanging out for hours…prada marfa 2005 by elmgreen & dragset studio: some might believe this is a foolish waste of money, some even think (mistakenly) that it is an advertisement or dismiss it as just an eyesorehowever, this is public art🙋🙋♀️🙋♂️it FREELY offers an opportunity to contemplate 💭🤔it was an experience for which offer gratitude to the artists elmgreen & dragset thank you for reading, gabriel
Cool art piece I just dont get it in my opinion.
Fun place to visit! Its clean and kept up! Checked off the bucket list! Out in the middle of nowhere, so its at least a 35 min drive to snap a few photos, but its fun.
An interesting place along the way. Though it was very small.
Why did I stop? It is the middle of nowhere and other cars are stopping. I actually drove by, I recognized it from a recent movie but I dont recall which one. Then I decided that as long as I was there I might as well turn around and see it for myself. Took a few pictures and posted to Facebook. Got a few laughs for doing that.Moral of the story....if you are in the middle of nowhere go with the flow and stop to see the sights. You may enjoy it or make someone else smile.
What a neat little at exhibit, a comment on our consumerist culture no doubt...
Plenty cool. No traffic so IG away.
Strange place in the middle of nowhere. Many people stopping as they drive by. Bring a lock to put on the fence.
Interesting art piece. Its definitely there for the sharp contrast between its high end feel and the surrounding areas. Like many landmarks, this was anti-climactic but also kind of fun to take pictures at.
Good place to stretch out, bring some sort of padlock to leave on the fence that surrounds structure, you will understand when you get there.
A tiny fake Prada retail store on the side of the road in the desert. You cannot enter so it is really a photo prop. To many it’s quirky art. It is novel, but is approximately 35 miles from Marfa, past Valentine, which makes a one hour round-trip drive from Marfa. To get a good picture you must stand on or across highway 90, which can be dangerous. There is very little between Marfa and this location, so gas up and pack your own drinks.
Loved it, bring a lock as an expression of your affection to put in the fence next to this work of art. Very clean and well kept!
Very cool place in the middle of nowhere. This is art though so might not appeal to everyone. I loved that the store has actual Prada merchandise in it. It is a very unique idea and definitely made my wife happy visiting so Id recommend the trip.
I actually found this place by accident on my way into Marfa, and it was great, I looked up the piece and the artist and was amazed by the depth of thought behind it!
Fun and different. But to many people to take a decent picture. Good road side attraction.
Cool place you can be sure to get an interesting and beautiful photo. But we waited past 7:30 in order for it to light up and it was already pitch black and never lit up. The drive had construction all over it to it was annoying. But definitely a spot worth going at least once in your life
Such a unique stop, we loved it
