The Great Mosque of Tlemcen (Arabic: الجامع الكبير لتلمسان‎, el-Jemaa el-Kebir litilimcen) was first built in Tlemcen, Algeria in 1082.It is one of the best preserved examples of the Almoravid dynastys architecture. It was built under sultan Yusuf ibn Tashfin, but substantially reconstructed and enlarged by his son Ali ibn Yusuf. An inscription dates this reconstruction to 1136. Sultan Yaghmoracen (1236-1283), the founder of the Abdalwadid dynasty of Tlemcen added a section with a minaret and a dome in the 13th century. Next to the mosque there used to be an Islamic court (Makhama) and an Islamic university of considerable fame.

The Great Mosque of Tlemcen was built in 1136 by Yusuf Ibn Tashfin, the first caliph of the Almoravid Dynasty, and the minaret was built in 1236 by Ighmrasin Ibn ZayanThe Great Mosque of Tlemcen is one of the three mosques built by the Almoravids in Algeria: the Algiers Mosque and the Nedroma Mosque. The Great Mosque of Tlemcen, like other Almoravid mosques, is arranged in a design based on tiles perpendicular to the qibla wall, and a rectangular courtyard surrounded by porticos on the two small sides. It represents the first Maghrebian model of religious architecture. The original plan (which did not include the two new porticos advancing the minaret) is a rectangle, cut by a triangular area in its northwest part. The total length is approximately 55 meters, and its width is slightly less than this size.Dated c. Marcy by saying: Like his brother Al-Asimi (i.e. the Great Mosque of Algiers), its date is around the year 530 AD / 1070. However, an inscription dating back to the year 590 AH / 1136 AD on the “mihrab” contradicts this analysis, but c. Marcy believes that this year may be the date of the restoration and decoration of the mosque. At a time when the architectural achievements in Spain were diminished due to the transfer of the center of power to the Maghreb, the Great Mosque of Tlemcen was a vivid example of the continuity of the influence of Andalusian architecture thanks to its creativity and the elegance of its decorations. The peculiarities of its design and the presence of the dome with veins in addition to a frieze with muqarnas are all characteristics that place it among the masterpieces of Islamic architectural achievements.Oh God, forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy, grace, sustenance, grace, leave and well-being.Murad Ramadani

It is an architectural success, located on the main square of the city. The Great Mosque is indeed a true work of art, built in stones, marble, plaster, mosaic and wood in 1136 by Ali Benyoussef, a Berber Caliph of the Almorvid dynasty. His minaret was completed in 1236 by Yaghmoracen Ibn Zian of the Zianid dynasty. This great mosque encompasses with its large area; A courtyard and a prayer room composed of several vaults and a large dome all equally beautiful. The main carved door leads to the main square, but there is another exit overlooking a street that ends on a big market called the Medress. I think it should absolutely visit. It is a place of art and essential stories. So, I highly recommend it

Historical site among the oldest mosques in Algeria founded in 1136 The great mosque of Tlemcen (المسجد الكبير بتلمسان in Arabic) was built in 1136 by Ali Ben Youssef, caliph of the Berber dynasty of Almoravids, and its minaret in 1236 by Sultan Zianides Yghomracen Ibn Zyan. It is built of stone, brick and plaster. The architectural decor includes marble, carved and openwork plaster, ceramic and wood. It is, alongside the Great Mosque of Algiers and the Great Mosque of Nedroma, the only monument of the Almoravid dynasty remaining in Algeria today.

The greatest of the oldest mosques in the state of Tlemcen, but know my Muslim brother that the best Bekaa to God mosques and the best people are Ammar mosques, the Prophet peace be upon him, my beauty in the ground mosques and architecture Zwari and right on the forgery honored visitor, any right to God honored Muslim visitor In this case, Allaah has made 27 degrees for those who pray in a mosque with the congregation. Those who pray alone have only one degree. In addition, cleaning mosques from the dirt and dirt is a dowry for the eye. Great

The length of the Tlemcen Mosque is 30,49 m and its width is 60,45 m. The length of the courtyard is 27 meters and its width is about 15 meters. We can count in the Tlemcen Mosque thirteen stairways heading towards the mihrab, which leans on five rows of columns. It is noted that the middle corridor is wider than the dome, and that two rows of east-west arches divide the prayer hall into two groups of corridors, each of which includes three. The Tlemcen Mosque is the only mosque among the Almoravid mosques that contained Saraya: Seven of them belong to the Almoravid era, namely: the two pillars erected on both sides of the mihrab and the other five on which the main portico is built, while the eighth column belongs to the era of Bani Abd al-Wadi.

The Grand Mosque of Tlemcen is one of three mosques built by the Almoravids in Algeria, namely the Algiers Mosque and the Ndroma Mosque. The Grand Mosque of Tlemcen, similar to the other Murabitian mosques, is organized in a design that adopts orthogonal tiles with the qibla wall and a rectangular dish, surrounded by arches on the small sides. It is the first Maghreb model of religious architecture. The original plan (which did not contain the two new galleries leading the minaret) is a rectangle, cut in a triangular area in its northwestern part. The total length is approximately 55 meters and slightly below this measurement.
