Peaceful place. Thekkinkadu Maidan is 65-acre (260,000 m2) in area and is encircled by swaraj round to all sides. It houses vadakkunaathan temple, Nehru park, Kerala water authority office and water storage tanks and seven wells. The whole of the city branches from Thekkinkadu Maidan through nine roads, including most of the important roads like the M.G road and the M.O road. These roads further form junctions to make the spread of the city a circular one.
Thekkinkadu Maidanam is situated in the middle of Thrissur city of Kerala state in India. This hillock which seats the Vadakkumnathan Temple, is an open ground in the centre of the Thrissur city which is under the custody of the Cochin Devaswom Board (CDB). It hosts the spectacular cultural festival Thrissur Pooram, which is considered the Mother of all Poorams in Kerala.
You cant get this peace and freshness in any other city centre!
This is a world famous Divine ground around Vadakkunnathan Siva Temple. The famous Thrissur Pooram (annual festival for Lord Siva) is conducted here.
Good place to take relaxation. Feel the vibe in nature.
Origin of everything ThrissurianThekkinkad is the complete place. Here we walk in circles, take a seat near thekke nada and watch Sakthan thampuran - the master planner who made it possible for us.The place is rich with trees, read oxygen, oxygen and more oxygen. Morning walks are absolutely recommended and to feel our true vibes maybe visit the place in the eve from 5-7. There used to be street chess, Solitiare and more before the pandemic. Apart from that youd feel at peace as you move around the place. Whilst you are at it enjoy the ancient temple of Vadakkunathan too.And ask anyone around for the history. We are cheerful people with a sense of humour.Have a great time here..
Its positive place to see there , calm and peaceful palce around there
Thekkinkadu Maithanam (roughly translates to Teakwood Forest Ground) is the centerpiece of Thrissur. Its a massive, hilly ground sprawling across 65 acres with Sri Vadakkunnathan Temple at its centre. It is encircled by Swaraj Round, which is famed to be the second largest roundabout in the world and largest in Asia. World famous heritage festival Thrissur Pooram happens on this ground. Lush green with plants and trees, paved with tracks and quite airy, its an excellent place for taking a stroll in mornings and evenings.

Thekkinkadu Maidan was a dense forest in olden days. All kinds of wild animals used to roam in the forest where wanted criminals of Thrissur were executed. The soldiers used to push the criminals to dense forest from one the Vadakkumnatha Temple gates. Later, Maharaja of Cochin, Rama Varma Sakthan Thampuran cleared the Thekkinkadu Maidan despite the resistance of Brahmin priests and other orthodox section of people.Till 1970, there were no teaks in the Maidan. In the 1970s Cochin Devaswom Board planted some teaks trees. Till 1928, the Thekkinkadu Maidan was with the Sanitary Board. In 1928 it was handed over to Thrissur Municipality when it was formed. In 1934, Diwan Paruvakad Narayanan Nair gave the Maidan to Cochin Devaswom Board. The only condition for the transfer was that any organisation can organise meeting or festival without any problem.I hope you guys will enjoy this place........give me a like☺️

The famous ground beside the Vadakkunnathan Mahadeva temple at the heart of Trissur district in Kerala. Conducts the very famous festival called Trissur Pooram at this ground every year. Its the festival of festivals in Kerala, showcasing the ritual Kudamattam on top of number of elephants standing on each end of the ground representing the two native landlords.
Its too hard to say, this temple is located right in center (Ground Zero) of one of Keralas most busiest bustling city- Thrissur. Because the extreme calmness, quietness and serene beauty is unparalleled anywhere in India. Lord Vadakkumnathan (The Lord of North) is the presiding diety of city of Thrissur and entire Thrissur has its iconic identity as the home of Vadkkumnathan surpassing any religious affiliation. Its the official icon of the city. The temple is known for its extreme grandness of Kerala architecture. As the official Royal temple of Kochi Kingdom, this temple has all grandness that any architecture student loves to see. This temple has 4 large gatehouses designed in Kerala style, each opening to each side of the Thrissur central Round popularly known as Swaraj Round (as the Flag of Indian republic was first hoisted in this ground on August 15th 1947 within a Native Princely State) or its old name- Thekkinkadu Maidan (The Teak wood Forest grounds)
