This place is surrounded by bay of Bengal on all the sides. It is believed that, there are 22 holy wells in the temple and having a holy bath in the bay and then water from the wells are sprinkled. If this is done it is believed that our bad rituals get washed away. Though the wells are open only till 7p.m. And the history goes like lord sri ram enshrined Shivas statue in this place and hence the name rameshwaram. Its worth watching.

It was a great experience to visit Rameshwaram temple. This is grand temple. You must take bath with 22 holy wells situated in the temple building for this purpose temple charges Rs.25/ person but if you want to take a proper bath you will have to pay extra to local guys who are appointed there to give help in bath. They always ask extra money for everything. I think this cannot be changed at our most of the Holy places so you must learn the art of bargaining with these local guys. One who believe on God it is a must visit place. You would also get a great chance to visit lot of places near by Rameshwaram. There is plenty of option for south Indian foods but if your choice is different you will have to compromise.

Mahadev..its too huge from inside..its too good to have a look from inside. Timing is from 5:30 am to 8:30pm..No mobile phone allowed inside the temple

It is an historic temple for Siva God. It is a very old temple. Apart from God Siva, Goddess Parvati and God Ganapathy are also worshipped in this temple.

Amaravila Rameswaram Sri Mahadeva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva is situated on the banks of the Neyyar (river) at Amaravila ofNeyyattinkara (tehsil) in Thiruvananthapuram Districtin Kerala state in India.[2] The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Rameswara facing west. It is believed that Amaravila Rameswaram Sri Mahadeva temple is one of the 108 Shiva temples of Kerala and is installed by sage Parasurama dedicated to Lord Shiva. [3] [4] The temple is located 6 km away from Neyyattinkara town in Amaravila village.

It is beileved to be constructed during the vanavasa of Sreerama. The temple is near the famousNeyyar river. The temple is one of the 108 temples worshipped by Lord Parashurama.Shri Parashurama is an avatar of Shri Vishnu. He was born to sage Jamadagni. He got blessed with the parashu (axe) as he pleased Lord Shiva with his tapas. So he got the title ParashuRama.There was a powerful king called Kartaviryarjuna. He wanted to forcefully take away the Kamadhenu that was in the hermitage of sage Jamadagni. As the sage did not allow his brutal act, Kartaviryarjuna killed Jamadagni. When Parashuram got to know about this, he realized the way the ruling class is misusing the power. So he fought with Kartaviryarjuna and killed him. He further cleansed the misbehaving rulers of 21 generations.Subsequently, he did penance for the wrath by worshiping Lord Shiva. He wanted to focus on tapas. So, by divine order, he threw his axe into the sea to reclaim the land from the ocean as far as the axe went. Thus reclaimed land is called Parashurama Kshetra. This land extends from Gokarna in the north to Suchindram in south. Parashurama worshiped Lord Shiva in the 108 places in this Parasuram Kshetra.These temples are located in very scenic places across the length of Kerala. The yatra to these, when taken aligned with nature, would be a blissful experience!
