VJT Hall is renamed to AYYAN KALI HALL. Built to commemorate the golden jubilee of the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1896, the VJT Hall was inaugurated by Sree Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma on January 25, 1896, the hall has witnessed many historical events. Perhaps the most preferred venue for public functions in the city, this monument stands tall as a proud remnant of the colonial era.

The VJT Hall is now under the management of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.Built to commemorate the golden jubilee of the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1896, the VJT Hall was inaugurated by Sree Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma on January 25, 1896, the hall has witnessed many historical events. Perhaps the most preferred venue for public functions in the city, this monument stands tall as a proud remnant of the colonial era.By renting this hall solely for commercial trade, the historical importance of the hall is being discounted. Town halls were established in other districts of Kerala as well but these halls continue to host various cultural events.Renamed after social reformer AyyankaliThe announcement was made by the CM after inaugurating the celebrations organised by the Kerala DalitThe announcement was made by the CM onAugust 29, 2019

Great place with a touch of nostalgia. This architectural monument is one of remaining Victorian era buildings in Trivandrum city. Though this place is used for conducting medium sized gatherings, its a shame that this marvelous building is reduced into a place for running petty errands like sale of household items.

29 August 2019The cabinet meeting has decided to rename the Thiruvananthapuram Vijetti Hall as Ayyankali Hall.Named as a fitting memorial to Ayyankali, the renaissance hero who fought for the resurrection of the oppressed. The temple has witnessed countless historical events and the government has decided to mark it as a historical monument to the cultural and social movements of Kerala.Travancore was first established in 1888 in the Indian states. He came to the church in 1912 representing the Ayyankali Pulaya community. Initially, the meeting was held in the Durbar Hall of the Secretariat. When the backward castes became members, the meeting was shifted to Vijaydi Hall. It was in this hall that the voice of Ayyankali sounded for the rights of the other people. He spoke strongly for free education, for avoiding exam fees, for school lunch and for land distribution to the landless. No one else in the Vijeti Hall could have spoken so strongly and courageously like Ayyankali. It is against this backdrop that the Cabinet decided to rename the Ayyankali Hall as Ayyankali Hall in memory of Ayyankali.Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan
