The Vaishno Devi Temple is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Vaishno Devi located in Katra, Reasi District at the Trikuta Mountains within the Indian Union territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The temple is one of the 108 Shakti Peethas dedicated to Durga, who is worshipped as Vaishno Devi. It is one of the most visited pilgrimage centers of India. Every year millions of visitors visit the temple.[5[6During festivals like Navaratri, the count even increases to one crore visitors.Vaishno Devi Temple is one of the richest temples in India. Authors Michael Barnett and Janice Gross Stein says, Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu has an annual receipts of about $16 million, mainly from offerings by devoteesThe temple is sacred to all Hindus and Sikhs. Many prominent saints such as Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Swami Vivekananda have visited the temple.Navaratri and Diwali are the two most prominent festivals celebrated in the Vaishno Devi Temple. The temple was included in the Jammu and Kashmir state government Act No. XVI/1988, and known as Shri Mata Vaishno devi Shrine Act. The committee nominated by the state government administers the temple and has nine members on its board. The temple, at a height of 1,584.96 m (5,200 ft), 12 km from Katra on Trikuta hill. It is about 61 km from Jammu city. There is no historical record about the temple, but there is a mention of the Trikuta hill in Rigveda, the place where the temple is located. The Mahabharata, which gives the account of the Pandavas and the Kurukshetra War, does mention the worship of goddess Vaishno Devi. Before the Kurukshetra War Arjuna is said to have worshipped Devi by the advice of Lord Krishna for the blessings. Pleased by his devotion, Mother Goddess appeared in front of him in the form of Vaishno Devi. When goddess appeared, Arjuna started praising her with a stotra, in which a Shloka goes by saying ‘ Jambookatak Chityaishu Nityam Sannihitalaye ’, which means ‘you who always dwell in the temple on the slope of the mountain in Jambhu’ — probably referring to the present day Jammu. Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Jagmohan says, the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is an ancient one whose antiquity is pre-Mahabharathan, Lord Krishna is believed to have advised Arjuna to go up in the hills of Jambhu and seek the blessings of Vaishno Devi before taking up arms in the battlefield. Jambhu is identified with present-day Jammu. Arjuna while worshipping Vaishno Devi, calls Her, the highest Yogin who is free from decrepitude and decay, who is the Mother of the Vedas and the Science of Vedanta and who is giver of Victory and personification of victory itself. It is also generally believed that the Pandavas were the first to build the temples at Kol Kandoli and Bhawan in reverence and gratitude for the Mother Goddess. On a mountain, just adjacent to the Trikuta Mountain and overlooking the Holy Cave are five stone structures, which are believed to be the rock symbols of the five Pandavas.

For visiting the temple alot of people prefer walking which takes approximately 10 hrs. But for the people who feel difficult to walk this distance can travel by horse or doli. It really feels blessed once we seek blessings of vaishnodevi mata. There is also an option of traveling by helicopter to the mandir. Its amazing to travel during November to January as the weather is very cool here during this time period.

This temple is definitely an extremely religious place of worship for Hindus. Although the facilities are not too accessible once the footfall increases. No facility provided other than horses which might get risky at times!

Vaishno Devi Shrine is considered as one of the holiest pilgrimage of our times.. Its also a belief that if you ever get a chance to visit this place never miss that opportunity.. I would like to share my expierence..Ticket is required for the entry to Vaishno Devi from Katra..We started our hiking at 7:30 in the morning, on the way we grabbed sticks for our hiking.. Its a smooth road, shops of idols, eatery and massage centers side ways. One can also opt for ponies, palanquin and horse riding and even helicopter(based on advance bookings) if you dont prefer hiking..Make sure you follow the right path, we missed the way in between took a wrong direction of 1.5km.. In between there are steps which will cover less distance.. We slept walking chanting hai mata Di.The 12 km climb from Katra to Vaishno Devi is on a well-paved road. If youre running short of time or unable to do the climb, there are regular helicopter flights from Katra to Sanjhhi Chhat, followed by a 2.5 km walk. These can be booked from the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Boards official website..Once the vaishno Devi darshna was done we headed towards bairov baba Darsham in the cable car(ropeway) which costs 100rs for ticket.Once back form bairavnath we continued our treak way back to Katra.. It was around 8.00pm when we reached back..On the way back we took a leg massage, it was just a temporary relief..It was indeed a very tiring and blessed journey. Please note we visited this place before the panda mic.. Exact 2 years back

Jai Matadi !!!!Great experience of visiting Vaishno Devi & Bhairav.... Sacred feelings develop in your mind.... Clean, pollution free & safe environment throughout the climb which is roughly 14 kms one way. Highly systematic services (car, horse, pittu or palkhi, food, stay, ropeway, helicopter, parchi, toilets, darshan ques etc). All rates are fixed & charges are taken officially against computerised receipt. Prasad is served free. The whole climb is fully covered & hence pilgrims are protected against sun rays or rains etc. There are food outlets, toilets etc on the way. Pilgrims do not face inconvenience.Loongies & sarees are sold on top near gate 5 because one is not allowed to enter the cave in half pants, quqrter pants or insufficient clothes.Car is available from Ardh Kunvari i e after a climb of almost 4 kms. One can reach upto car park either by palkhi or horse or walk. Car should be available right from the beginning. One has to walk a little even after getting down from car or helicopter or horse or palkhi. Ropeway is there only from Vaishno Devi Bhavan to Bhairav. Horse, pittu, palki, food, toilets are available 24 hrs; but car, helicopter & ropeway are available only in day time. Darshan is closed in between for aarati etc but reopens in hour or two.People prefer climbing at night because it is lesser tiring.Overall a very sacred place.... A must visit deity.Jai Matadi !!!!

From thr u can take either the himkoti route or hathi matha route. On himkoti marg now they have started the electric taxis as well for people who cannot walk the stretch. Jai Mata Di! The holy place is called Bhawan, situated among the beautiful hills of Katra. A must place to visit if you are going to Jammu. You can reach the temple from Katra, either by walk, horse ride, palki or helicopter. There are plenty of well maintained toilets and also separate bathing ghats for men and women. Locker facilities are available to safekeep your belongings. Kindly note, except for prasad you cannot carry anything into the temple. No digital watch, mobile, leather or metal items, not even comb or belts. Please ensure you have booked accommodation there, else make it just a day trip. In that extreme cold whether one cannot spend a night without accommodation. The rooms available are limited, though they give blankets with safety deposit of 100Rs per blanket, it is very cold. You can get multiple blankets, but it doesnt help much. Also have food from the multiple Bhojanalayas set up by the Shrine Board, good healthy food prepared safely. You can find these Shrine Board Bhojanalayas from Katra and all the way till Bhawan, reasonable price for good food! You can either walk/ride horse or take cable car to Bhairon nath temple from Bhawan. Only 100Rs for the cable car, includes to and from. But cable car closes by evening 530 PM. Have a pleasant darshan, Jai Mata Di!

I travelled on 9th august 21,I reached jammu by flight at 12pm where RT PCR report (it should be within 48hrs) and vaccination certificate was checked,I took a taxi to katra which charged 3000 with return we reached katra in 1hr then took some rest and started climbing at 5 by old route which in my opinion should not be taken for ppl who can walk as it is used by horse and palki users so its very dirty and smelly due to horse excreta, new route is very clean but 1km long till ardh kuwari which is approx 6km,from ardh kuwari you can again take 2 route old and new,new route is 5.5km which has taxi service but ardh kuwari temple is bypassed we took new route as its clean, short by 1km old route is 6.5km and is taken by horse and palki users,we reached bhawan by 10pm (5hrs) at bhawan buy prasad packet (dont buy any thing from local shops at base) their is bath facility available buy its not compulsory to take bath before darshan keep everything in locker (belt, mobile, smart watch, wallet are not allowed) and get in line you need 1.5 to 2hrs for darshan getting room at bhawan is impossible task but you can get blanket and take rest,we skipped bhero nath as we were too tired to climb additional 1.5 and had return flight in afternoon we started our journey back at 12 and reached base at 4:30.Documents required1-Yatra parchi(sign in on official website for online parchi)2-Negative RT PCR (within 48hrs)3-Vaccination certificate.Dos and Dont1-Dont buy chunri or any stuff from base everything is available at bhawan.2-total distance is 12 km one way,If you are sure you can walk take new route from base to ardh kuwari and from ardh kuwari to bhawan.(two way its gonna be 2km long but its clean to enjoy your climb, everyone will tell you to use old path as economy of locals is mainly based on old path)3-Dont rely on taxi or helicopter, taxi is available from 7am to 10:30pm but only runs for few trips and break time is long still buy online ticket if you are lucky you will get it.Helicopter only runs when weather is clear.(taxi runs from ardh kuwari to bhawan and back)4-From 8am to 6pm you can get ropeway from bhawan to bheronath so plan accordingly.5- cost of palki one way is 3100 and horse is 1200.6-Dont carry eatables from base as you can buy it all on the way.

I went on March 27, 2021 please consider accordingly. The temple is about 11-12 km far from Ban Ganga. It is 5.5Km or 6.5 km to Ardhkuwari depends which path you select. You can also take pony for Rs 625 to Arkuwari and again Rs 625 to Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan which means you will be charged 1250 from bottom to top for pony(horse ridding). You can also avail the benefits of palki which charges upto 3150 from Ban Ganga to Bhawan. You can also travel with Helicopter which take you to the top in 5-8 minutes and from there you have to travel at least 2 Km for Bhawan. Temple is on the top of hill. It will take around 6 to 7 hours to climb up to the temple. lovely view during tracking on the way. Shrine board has done arrangement of water and food at regular intervals. You can get mineral water, tea, some food at normal rates. We visited during covid period there was no rush. We had a quite darshan of Maa Vaishno Devi.

Hope you have your trekking game on for this one because Vaishnodevi is one heck of a trek. It will take you 5 hours to reach to the top if you go at medium pace with few stops. It really justifies the legend that gods usually stay high up in the mountains. The good thing about this trek is that the road is well paved now there are railings throughout the journey so you wont find bad road anywhere. The view is fantastic from the top its certainly the kind of view you should definitely have once in a lifetime. Take snack breaks wherever you can because there arent many shops in the way and definitely not any on the top. There is one restaurant only at the top which is always packed. The infrastructure at the top is awesome. They have built bathing areas for men and women nicely and the queuing system is awesome too. The journey to vaishnodevi is to be cherished more than the worshipping of the god after reaching the temple.

The journey to the Holy Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is an enchanting journey of the places where Mata Vaishnavi had spent some time while observing various spiritual disciplines and penances.
