The Monastery sits atop a hill with a beautiful view on the surrounding landscape. I highly recommend going for sunset so you can see the sun set over the green fields and experience a ceremony with monks chanting. Its beautiful. You can get some wine made at the Monastery itself, though its incredibly sweet so not for everyone. The trek up there is pretty steep but I promise you its worth it!
There is a gate at the entrance stating there are minibuses going up the hill and you cant take your private vehicle. There were no mini buses. So we walked. Its 1.5 km of STEEP road and as we had our 5 year old, after 1km, it was getting too much. We saw at least 3 private vehicles so I went down and drove up after chatting to the sleeping police at the gate. The views are quite spectacular and the old wine cellar is interesting. Worth a visit if you in the area but unless you quite fit, that hill is a heavy climb. Take a car up if you can.
The oldest church, with amazing view. Highly recommended to visit
It’s just Fantastic ❣️
Amazing views from the top. However choose not a rainy/cloudy day. Uphill you will be driven by the minibus, also kind of extreme experience. On the way back tou can take a walk, downhill is ok and you can observe the Alazany valley from the top. Note, in a sunny summer days it may become quite hot.
4th century Monastery, with amazing views. 4th century wine jugs.
The wiew is wonderful
The view has it all... I like this monastery a lot!Do take a shuttle up during hot weather or once it slippery! If you are tired once youre walking up on foot, the shuttle wont be able to take you onboard, because stopping there is difficult and dangerous. So think twice, before saving 2 lari. You can go up with a shuttle and come down on foot, if you like.
In this old monastery you can find original tools used for making wine. I recommend climbing all the way up the mountain (1.5 km) because it gives you very nice view of the area. In the church, just like in all Georgian churches, women should cover their heads with a scarf. There is a little shop inside which offers wine made here by the monks.
The great place definitely worth to visit. Stunning view from the top. Take the shuttle bus from the lower gate, don’t even think to climb :-)
Loved it! It is on the top. You have to walk approximately 30 minutes but it is worth to see the landscape. Beautiful Alazani Valley 🇬🇪
Beautiful place. Bus goes up every 30 minutes, for two lari you can go back and forth. From the top, a pleasant view. Worth visiting.
Beautiful church with beautiful views over Kakheti
Wonderful location for sacred monument. Beautiful old buildings and the oldest church on Georgia.
Famous Monastery built in 4-th century. Really amazing views.
The place with a story of powerful Kakhetian city, tample, monastery, Zoroastrianism and Christianity
Nice peaceful place to be. Actually I thought its bigger. Anyway, youve got to visit.
Ancient center for religious and cultural activities. Strange architectural ideas
Small church from IV. century maybe does not looks like much, but one can really feel the history here. The monastery is a peaceful place with great view over the Alazani valley. The bus drive up and down the hill is an experience on its own.
Amaizing place.. Very peaceful.. One of the places you should go in georgia.. Soo good prospect
Very nice to visit if you like historical sites. The views are breathtaking.
It will be more interesting with guide.
Great views from this high location.
After the torture of the 1.5km walk up the road, you can enjoy the stunning views of the valley below and the great architecture of the buildings all beautifully restored. The church has some remnants of the original frescos, but they are very difficult to view in the very dark church. No photos allowed inside. We copped a bit of rain and sleet so the low cloud affected the view somewhat. Good exercise and fresh air!
Amasing views and very lovely place. Going by foot, its 1,6 km up on the high mountin. Very hard walk. Do not recommend if healt contition is not sporty.
Awesome place and amazing views
An amazing view of the valley and a very well kept monastery will make the steep road completely worth it.
Stunning place, beautiful panorama
An awesome historical venue. Must see!
Absolutely perfect views and monastery also.
It is very old place. You must go!
Its very spesial place! Must see!

Nekresi is a historic town in Kakheti, Georgia, in modern-day Kvareli Municipality, near the village of Shilda. The town was established by king Pharnajom(around 2nd-1st centuries BC). In the 4th century AD, king Thrdat built a church in this place. This church became a refuge to one of the Assyrian fathers, Abibus, in the late 6th century. Around this time Diocese of Nekresiwas established, which existed until the 19th century. The church was recently restored, stone masonry repaired, roof rebuilt, windows put in place.
Very beautiful place.
Nice easy hike to this perfect spot. Old stones, views, old trees, qvevris and old paintings
Beautiful views and interesting monastry
Is one of the largest monastery complexes in the Kakheti region of Georgia and was founded by St. Abibos Nekreseli, one of the famous thirteen Syrian fathers.MUST VISIT PLACE

Amazing Nekresi Monastery and view of Alazani Valley

An interesting historical place. There is parking. A bus rises to the monastery from the parking lot, the cost is 2.5 lar, less than dollar. The monastery offers beautiful landscapes of the Alazani dalina. The bus waits 30 minutes and goes down to the parking lot. Near the parking there are tables with awnings where you can dine (your own food).
Form here is best wiev. Here i put some photos and videos to see and decide if you want to go.You cant go up with your own car,You leave car down in the entrance and with them bus go top by bus, so you pay for bus ticket 2,5 gel per pasinger.Bus goes every time when 10 people collected. When you arrived at top you have only half an hour to take photos and enjoy with wiev.Very good view. You can reach the entrance by car and then you have to go up by their bus. The ticket price is 2.50 GEL per person. The bus passes when 10 men are gathered. The bus goes up and back in half an hour, so you should be able to take pictures in half an hour.
Wieder so ein schönes Kloster. Schöne Lage, recht steile Zufahrt. Fetter Klosterhund!
Caution! The buses only start when a certain number of minors has been reached. I think we would have been faster on foot. But it was totally worth it at the top! God was waiting for us, the view was great, and the wine barrels in the floor are otherwise not to be seen. God bless you monks!
Very beautiful views open from the walls and observation platforms of the tourist part of the monastery. There is a church shop.Every 30 minutes a bus runs from the foot to the monastery (the price of a one-way ticket is 2.50 GEL). The bus runs with a workload of at least 10 people, but you can pay one for 10 seats)The monastery is an architectural monument and is protected by the state. In the shop you can buy icons, candles, printed materials. Monastery wine is also sold.
Very beautiful view of the Alazani Valley. But if you come by minivan, then get ready for a 2 km steep climb to the monastery to see it. Cars or cars with four-wheel drive can drive up there.
The monastery complex is very beautiful. Unfortunately, it is possible to get up on a very steep catch and not to enter all the buildings. But its still impressive.
ულამაზესი ადგილია, საოცარი ხედებით და უძველესი ისტორიით 💜
It is a place indescribable in words! Quiet and peaceful. There is an unusual view from the monastery. You should definitely visit and see for yourself. You will be left with warm and unforgettable impressions-memories.
Amazing place, and views of the Alazani Valley
A beautifully situated monastery dating back to the early 4th century. You can get here in two ways:1. Marszrutką from the foot of the mountain - 2 lari, departure as it collects min. 10 people.2. A steady march uphill of 1.5 km (it is very steep !!)P.S. There is a drinks shop upstairs.
Наверху красиво, но система с автобусом на 10 чел наитупейшая.
The best view of the Alazani Valley. In most places you can go in tourist clothes. At the church you can buy souvenirs, including monastery wine.Dont even try to get up on foot - a very steep road. Every half an hour a minibus runs up and down, the cost of round-trip - 2 GEL
Beautiful, ancient Nekresi🙏The beautiful and huge Alazani Valley is falling on the palm of your hand
Interesting place. Beautiful and characteristic for that time architecture. You can see how wine was produced in the monastery. From above, turning your eyes to the valley, you can notice the remains of the foundation of a pagan temple.
Very beautiful and picturesque place! The temple is active. Women are given handkerchiefs and skirts. Candles, icons and crosses are for sale. This is an ancient temple.
Divorce tourists. You cannot drive by car, either walk up a very steep hill for 30 minutes, or wait for a minibus. Ok, lets wait. But they are once every 30 minutes, at least 10 people (who were not even close), and a strictly allotted time is waiting for you upstairs, no longer. If you want to make money, make a paid ride. If you want more people to see - make minibuses more often, remove the rule from 10 people. And now he will do everything as much as possible in order to discourage any desire to visit.
