The Monastery sits atop a hill with a beautiful view on the surrounding landscape. I highly recommend going for sunset so you can see the sun set over the green fields and experience a ceremony with monks chanting. Its beautiful. You can get some wine made at the Monastery itself, though its incredibly sweet so not for everyone. The trek up there is pretty steep but I promise you its worth it!

There is a gate at the entrance stating there are minibuses going up the hill and you cant take your private vehicle. There were no mini buses. So we walked. Its 1.5 km of STEEP road and as we had our 5 year old, after 1km, it was getting too much. We saw at least 3 private vehicles so I went down and drove up after chatting to the sleeping police at the gate. The views are quite spectacular and the old wine cellar is interesting. Worth a visit if you in the area but unless you quite fit, that hill is a heavy climb. Take a car up if you can.

An old monastery with a nice view on the valley below, inside theres an old wine cellar and a wine making room which is interesting to see.The bad side is you cant get up by car so either you pay for a van to get you up or you walk on the road all the way up (no trails just the road itself).

Great place and amazing views. But we could not drive our car up to the monastery, instead we had to use the minibuses after a bargain to get us up and waited 20 min till its full. This practice is in every nice place in Georgia, the leave the last section of the roads to badly blackmail tourists.

Amazing views from the top. However choose not a rainy/cloudy day. Uphill you will be driven by the minibus, also kind of extreme experience. On the way back tou can take a walk, downhill is ok and you can observe the Alazany valley from the top. Note, in a sunny summer days it may become quite hot.

The view has it all... I like this monastery a lot!Do take a shuttle up during hot weather or once it slippery! If you are tired once youre walking up on foot, the shuttle wont be able to take you onboard, because stopping there is difficult and dangerous. So think twice, before saving 2 lari. You can go up with a shuttle and come down on foot, if you like.

In this old monastery you can find original tools used for making wine. I recommend climbing all the way up the mountain (1.5 km) because it gives you very nice view of the area. In the church, just like in all Georgian churches, women should cover their heads with a scarf. There is a little shop inside which offers wine made here by the monks.

After the torture of the 1.5km walk up the road, you can enjoy the stunning views of the valley below and the great architecture of the buildings all beautifully restored. The church has some remnants of the original frescos, but they are very difficult to view in the very dark church. No photos allowed inside. We copped a bit of rain and sleet so the low cloud affected the view somewhat. Good exercise and fresh air!

An interesting historical place. There is parking. A bus rises to the monastery from the parking lot, the cost is 2.5 lar, less than dollar. The monastery offers beautiful landscapes of the Alazani dalina. The bus waits 30 minutes and goes down to the parking lot. Near the parking there are tables with awnings where you can dine (your own food).

Divorce tourists. You cannot drive by car, either walk up a very steep hill for 30 minutes, or wait for a minibus. Ok, lets wait. But they are once every 30 minutes, at least 10 people (who were not even close), and a strictly allotted time is waiting for you upstairs, no longer. If you want to make money, make a paid ride. If you want more people to see - make minibuses more often, remove the rule from 10 people. And now he will do everything as much as possible in order to discourage any desire to visit.
