Even though the place is very popular and full of tourists, it is must visit indeed! The Wings of Tatev the cable car to get to the Monastery is an incredible experience with great views. The Monastery has got a Creamery just outside of the main building so dont miss out! You could read a few interesting facts in there ad also see interactive video of how everything had functioned in old days.Shame we could not see one of the parts of the main building as maintenance was were held at the time we were there a few weeks ago.
It’s completely serene and quite ... it seems to be another world . It is a 9th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery . Tatev is known as the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a center of economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity. It’s surrounded by mountains and waterfall . You can reach there in world’s longest reversible cable car.
A very historical monastery for the Armenian, they have done a very good effort to restore and maintain the monastery. The swinging columns was an unexpected artifacts which i didnt expect but is truly amazing to know that back in days they had these things to detect the vibrations. The Bishops room had superb views and the dining Halls secret entrance was another surprise. Very unique monastery with quite a lot of heritage. Dont miss it especially if you are coming through the ropeway.
Tatev is cool not only because if the amazing scenery, but because of the unique cableway, world-longest, that lets you feel like an eagle, eyeing over the gorge, abandoned ancient villages, amazing experience. Revived by Vardanyan, Armenian millionaire, who made his fortunes in Russia, it is a comfortable place to visit now. Tatev was a university that helped to preserve and advance Armenian culture. Study room I saw was tiny, and you were suppose to stand up, with one open wall facing beautiful gorge! I doubt students could get bored in class back then 🤭 Restoration was in full swing when I visited, stone work and masonry and all...
This is the place I loved in Armenia. Its nearly 4 4 hours from the capital city, Yerevan. Tatev monastry is situated above the hills . The esay way to reach there is to use the cable car ( wings of tatev). The hill where tatev monastry is situated is so quiet , beautiful and is heaven like. You can relax on the benches on the hill, enjoy the scenic views from the hill. There are good restaurants too, which is a eco friendly restaurant.
A very historical place with a great view. We can strongly recommend.
A must visit for anyone. You will be amazed. History at its best. Magical.
Beautiful place with lots of beautiful scenery surrounding the monastery.
The monastery + the view + rope way was amaxing but one without the other is meaningless
It’s still a big mystery for me how this monastery was built on top of a mountain... can’t help to wonder, amazing history.
Wonderfull nature and snowy mountaning in first april
Gorgeous ride on the Wings of Tatev cablecar (7000AMD PER PERSON) takes you to the tatev monastery. Spectacular old architecture and views to see and explore. In my opinion, one hour us enough time there. Then you ride back on the cablecar to get back to the other side. Worth the price and time.
Tatev monastery is around 5 hour drive from yerevan. A must visit place. The view from the opposite of the monastery is amazing. The place is good for camping also
Must see ! One o the best sights of Armenia !!! Famous fortified monastery on the cliff. Best views from opposite hill
A chance of seeing and touching the walls which have first seen daylight in the medieval century is truly fascinating. Nothing Existing but good feeling
Amazing views and atmosphere, but a lot of tourists.
Many rooms to explore. Thought the detailed exterior of the church was more interesting than the interior. In 40 minutes we had seen all there was to see on site, however you could walk up to the Tatev viewpoint to get a good look at the monastery and its position on the edge of the cliff. It would take about 30 to 40 minutes total to get to the viewpoint and back. Unfortunately we hesitated for too long and in the end didnt have enough time to go up there. So keep that in mind if youre planning on buying tickets for the aerial tramway with fixed times.
Wery nice historical place! Must see😉
The most famous historical site in Armenia, and of course on Sunday is quite crowded but not too much to be noisy and disturbing. The church is beautiful and I had the opportunity to see the funny celebration of the liturgy with priest typically dressed, choir of woman, incense and praying devotees. After many churches seen, I must say this is not the most beautiful, even if fascinating. I appreciate most the oil mill beside, well restructured and well described with the use of multimedia explanations, which helps to enjoy and understand much more than printed signs. I guess that this is the way to help tourists to enjoy every site for their particularities.
The nature is amazing😍
Beautiful creation.
Absolutely amazing. It is a long drive from Yerevan but very worth it. We visited on a Monday when the wings of Tatev was closed, but this meant we had the place almost to ourselves. It is worth going up the road slightly further as well to the view point.
Awesome place with history. Very good infrastructure for family. Loved this place!
Attractive monastery on a cliff, full of rooms to explore, don’drive there, fly with air Tatev ropeway ;-) #wingsoftatev
I don’t not recommend come here, the monastery is great and all, but the service was utterly unprofessional, when we first got our tickets, it was done in a professional manner, the amount of time it took for the cable car to be ready for us was professional, once we got there we walk to the monastery and we toured around it although we we wanted to return we had to wait 2 hours and a half in a queue that wasn’t even organized, if you really want to come here I prefer not to do it in the weekend, but more so in he weekdays.
One of the wonders in Armenia. Great energy.
Amazing place! Must to see. You need be attentive.Dont miss other great places near.
One of the Christian center of Armenia, energy and view from here incredible!!! Close to Monastery Tatev wings Rodeway, which is one of the longest in the world, and has written in guineas book. And other historical places Close to Monastery!!! You can find here a peace of soul!!! Around of Monastery very beautiful mountains with very dense forests!!!
Beautiful landscape. The prayer the priest gave us was a memorable experience I will remember for a very long time. All of the proceeds from the gondola ride goes back into sustaining the monastery. Along the path you will find vendors that sell all types of herbal tea, nuts, and fruit leather.
A rich place of history. Beautiful throughout the year
Awsm place
A long but worthwhile journey to get here.
Amazing experience and stunning viewPROS1) we get here with a cable car and the view was amazing2) the monastery has a hidden underground tunnel that leads to the side of the mountain. This experience was the highlight of our visit3) the monastery is beautiful inside and outside4) cafes, restaurants and rest rooms are available nearby. Nothing fancy, but serves a purpose.CONS1) one would wish he can spend more time there
I must when visiting Armenia. The cable car is very efficiently done with fantastic views. Worth the 15 minute walk to look down on the monastery.
Winter time view is spectacular, especially in a sunny morning!
Must see place for every Armenian and every guest of Armenia. I magic place lost in the mountains.
Amazing place ..
Great ancient monastery, which you can access with a longest cable road in the world.
The Best of the Best!
Amazing Ropeway and great nature
At the time I went there it was surrounded by the fog and clouds...take care of the clothes you wear as it is a very holy place and orthodox
Incredible beautiful!
This exquisite gem is not too be missed. Spend time hear. If you listen, you will hear the walls talk. It is a magnificent place. Walk around the grounds. Learn about the history. Be an informed traveler!
First armenian cathedral complex
This is one of the most important and well known Armenian Monastery. The church is very nice and the views are awesome. There is an old oil mill next to the church.
The monastery is in a wonderful location, it has a lot of buildings that you can visit, but the restoration project has been too much wide, maybe... the aerial tramway is closed on monday, but the road to reach the monastery has been recently renewed and its very beautiful!
It took some hours to arrive this amazing place. We spent few hours and wished we could have more time to stay one night there. The Monastery located on the top of mountain and the views of valleys and mountains from there is absolutely breathtaking. I really was mesmerized by the picturesque view and the atmosphere of Monastery . It should be listed in Must See in Armenia.
A breathtaking 9th century historical monument. It is one of the oldest and most famous monastery complexes in Armenia. During medieval times Tatev Monastery was a vital scholastic, enlightenment and spiritual center and played a singular role in the country’s history.Restoration of the monastery, re-establishing its educational legacy and reviving monastic life at Tatev is one of the main goals of Tatev Revival Program, a part of which is Wings of Tatev aerial tramway.
Nice spot specially when you come by cable car.Nice atmosphere. Unfortunately there are not much information and explanations around.
Very mysterious place
👍
One of my favourite historical place of Armenia. Too beautiful, unique and wonderful
We got the cable car over here, well worth the trip!Wonderful Monastery which is being updated to show how it worked originally.
Beautiful landscape and trip to Tatev Monastery on world highest tramway 5752 m in length. Breathtaking views of Gorge . Must visit place when you are in Armenia. Need to plan night stay other wise it is too tiring (270 km one way)
Evidence of the great and beautiful Armenian Christian history.
Amazing
This ancient monastery is being meticulously renovated. So far the olive press is the only thing done. Once completed, it will be the nicest tourist attraction in all of Armenia.
To be done mostly for the Tatev Wings:the view enjoyed during the cable car ride is way more impressive than Tatev monastery itself.
Lovely historical monasteries as usual and to go there using Wings of Tatev makes it move amazing
Historical and has that touched of medieval that simply transport you to a different era
❤️
Best Armenia monastery, placed in an amazing location. The wings of tatev, which is the easiest way to get to the monastery, is the longest cable car of the world. The road is really bad.Its a long one day round trip from Yerevan, but the road is amazing as well.
I am Armenian and I have been in many many places in Armenia but no one can compare with Tatev
Most beautiful monetary in the world. Scenery is breath taking and you will remember your trip for ever. A must see !
Beutiful sight of Armenia
We went to Tatev for my kids Christianing. This place was magnificent In every way. We stayed at Anna- Maria Bed & Breakfast. When we got there, the owner of that hotel/house cooked a homade organic food for us. All the ingredients were strictly from their backyard. Oh God.... I would Never forget that 2 beautiful days and nights. Thank you for your Great Service.( search them in Face Book. Anna-Maria Bed & Breakfast )
Very nice place with an amazing view of Ararat mountains.
I love this place. I really suggest it.
Tatev Monastery is one of the best and fantastic places in Armenia. Located on the stone mountain is is surrounded by canion, making beautiful upper view.
Therere much more energetic and not so renovated monasteries in Armenia. Though view from Vista Point 1 km further up the road is fantastic. We came in Monday and cable was not working which was disappointing because we have to drive up by terrible road.
Maybe if you enjoy visiting an old churches this one would be an option for you.
Take world longest rope way to our magnificent Monastery! Very spiritual Gods servant working in the monestery.
A place you must visit. Breathtaking
One of the greatest landmarks of Armenia. Of you visit the country this place should be in your wish to visit list.
Was built on 9th century still standing strong cable car ride make this visit more interesting
Great panorama, historical and cultural place.
Great views! Really enjoyed this place.
My experience of this beautiful monastery is through others writings and pictures. I am blessed and grateful for their eyes, ears and insight!
The most magnificent landscape Ive ever seen!!!
The 9th-century Armenian Apostolic Tatev monastery located on a large basalt plateau near the Tatev village in Syunik Province in southeastern Armenia. The term Tatev usually refers to the monastery. The monastic ensemble stands on the edge of a deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Tatev is known as the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a center of economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity. The Tatev plateau has been in use since pre-Christian times, hosting a pagan temple. The temple was replaced with a modest church following the Christianization of Armenia in the 4th century. The monastery boasts an upright pendulum, known as the Gavazan Column. This monument is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The Gavazan Column was built in the 10th century following the completion of the Paul and Peter church and has survived numerous invasions and earthquakes relatively unscathed. Why??Because nearly a thousand years before the development of the modern seismograph in the 19th century, Armenian monks living in the Tatev monastery constructed the “Gavazan” Column, a pillar with a pivoting base, which tilted when the ground shook from tremors caused by earthquakes and invading armies. So if todays scientist and engineers studied ancient history maybe certain things would have been improved quicker.
Beautiful paradise like place on earth, Armenia has a long history and each has left its imprint. There are lots of places of tourist interest. One such place is Tatev Monastery. It is a 9th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery resting on a large basalt plateau near the Tatev village in Syunik Province in southeastern Armenia overlooking the deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Tatev played an important role as a center of economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity. Tatev is 280 km from Yerevan and is near to Goris City. Christianisation of Armenia in 4th century CE replaced the pre- Christian pagan temple at Tatev plateau with modest Church. Seljuk invasions in the 12th century and the earthquake in 1136 significantly damaged the monastery. It was rebuilt in 13th century CE. Even after this many episodes of looting and destruction have tried to destroy the great historical place. But constant reconstruction each time made the monastery stand high as of today. The fortified Tatev monastery consists of three churches Saints Paul and Peter, Saint Gregory the Illuminator, and Holy Mother of God. In addition there is a library, refectory, bell tower, mausoleum, as well as other administrative and auxiliary buildings. It is devine. It is serene. It is a great place on earth. Visit and Be blessed. Good luck
When going there you should definitely go on a ropeway. + the nature is simply breathtaking
Unbelievable beautiful place.
Amazing place, you have to visit it if you come to Armenia.Full of history (and youd better come prepared to feel the story of the monastery).
Hi askance texa
Great place to be, to see oldness of Armenian culture and healthy nature. Being here youll be free of thoughts and doubts, will feel relaxed physically and spiritually.
Amazing nature💙💙
The lingest ropeway in the world is in Tatev
With the monastery under heavy renovation, the visit was not ideally timed. The cable car ride and surrounding views are what make for a memorable experience.
Loved it ... set high up in the Mountains using Worlds longest cable way to get there ...
