We tried the big platter combo, chicken nuggets (they should change this name, sounds like McDonalds and doesnt do justice to this juicy, crispy and light chicken fritters), pakoras (just average too heavy and filling) and sweet corn soup. The platter was more than sufficient for 4 adults. The lamb and beef kebabs were great. Chicken kebab was a bit on the dry side. Sweet corn soup was a disappointment. Dessert (a variation of tres leches cake) was fabulous. They literally served us a mound of rice. All the drinks we tired were good. Service was slow. The restaurant at that time was very busy with both dine in and take out. We ate at the patio which was set up in the parking lot (Covid make-shift) so it was just okay. Will definitely go back for their kebabs.
Quality of food has been always the same for past years. The taste is maybe not 100% authentic to the Afghan food but it sure has its quality.Unfortunately in the past years the service has never improved. You just go there to eat and leave. They also have a small hall in the back that could be rented out. Anytime you have a party at the hall you will only get 2 waitresses no matter if you have 30 people or you have a big party up to 100 guests. It’s family managed and hopefully they will work on all the points above!
My brother treated us to this wonderful place. This is the first time ever having afghan food and we all loved it.We chose the special menu for 8 people and had appetizers and dessert as well. All very good. The only negative would be not enough staff as the waitress was running off her feet and it was busy.Overall the food was well executed and very fresh and tasty. There is a service charge added onto the bill which my brother didnt know and he put an extra tip on top of that.I think it would have been nice if the cashier let the customer know that it was on the bill. The waitress was excellent, she was helpful and attentive.Keep up the great work!!!!
We tried couple combos, food was take out due to Covid. The salad was so fresh cut and green sauce was delicious. The rice was a lot that we didn’t finish it and it can be served for three people. The Kababs are spicy specially chicken , if you don’t like spicy food be kept in mind. The eggplant is super spicy that I couldn’t tolerate. The beard was backed fresh.Overall the food is good and spicy.
It was serving a better food. I think they have different chef now. The quality is not the same from my last month visit.
Today in Afghan Chopan Restaurant, I had a great experience as if I were travelling on an exotic land. Pushing open the door and stepping in, I felt like I were somewhere in Afghan. A floor to ceiling glass screen at the entrance. A long sparkling ✨ ornament on the wall. A circular light fixture with spot lights on on the ceiling. Two huge pictures of Afghani scenery at both ends. Tow sitting eating areas with rails on either side against the walls. Relaxing Afghani music ringing in the air. All were taking me to a dreamland where I didn’t return to the reality until the waitress came over and asked me what to order. Their food was fantastic! I can tell it’s a popular restaurant, for customers kept coming in during off-peak hours: 3 to 5pm.
I was at this place recently with my family. They were following all CoVid protocols and the staff were really friendly and nice and checked on us often.I have to say, the food is simply outstanding. Its not just a few dishes that stand out, but its really everything you order. All of my families dishes turned out amazing and thats amazing work by the chef team so put out such consistent quality meals.
My first time to come here from Alberta the owner is a very great and professional I am so impressed with there behavior. The food was great I highly recommend this place for everyone.
The ambiance, the setting and the decor was wonderful to look at and enjoy. They have authentic afghani seating on cushions on the floor. The food was amazing!! We had the family platter, everything that came with it was sooo good. The waitress was so kind and provided us with everything we needed and more.Thank you for a wonderful experience and great service.
Id say the Richmond branch is way much better, in terms of service and the food quality. However the location looks nicer than Richmond one.
I wanted to like it so much and most people would love it but I am a vegetarian and I didnt have many options and out of the options I had, they did not have them available that day. Well I would love to try again.
What amazing aghfani food.To die for..
When we arrived, our seats were given to other customers even though we arrived on time. On top of that, they told us only when we arrived and sat that their rice ran out for tonight and we could only eat kebab, salad and bread. This information should’ve been given beforehand when we had called and not after we took a long drive to arrive and had settled in. If there was no rice then what was the point of coming? Every other experience had been far better, really disappointed.
We went on Sunday evening, not that busy when we went but the service was little slow.We ordered CHICKEN KABOB, cooked perfectly and very delicious, salad was very fresh and mint chutney was topnotch. Naan was ok,little hard to bit. Channa curry was ok. Overall highly recommend. And we also Ordered CHOPAN COMBO, It was served with steamed rice topped with carrots and raisins, tasted like Indian Biryani at some point. Coming to the lamb Chops, we are totally disappointed, the pieces over grilled on one side and on the other side it doesnt cook at all, felt like we were eating Rubber, we left the lamb pieces havent eat them.Whenever I try to eat lamb or goat at any restaurants may be I think its my back luck, It was never tasty in the surrey and Vancouver areas.Overall very nice ambiance and give it a try.
Food was really good. We got the chefs platter which was perfect for 6 adults. We just had extra rice left over. The kebabs were spiced nicely. The lamb chops had lots of fat and not as much meat. The bread was hit at first but then turned Rick hard by the end if the meal. Also the music was looping the same 3 or 4 tracks.
Not the best Afghan place Ive been to. They have good seating cabanas. Menu is good but food was not great but also not bad. Their milk tea doesnt taste too authentic.
Whenever I go to GVA, this is my go to place. Their quality of the food is fantastic and price is also reasonable. On top of that restaurant’s interior is also very welcoming. I would be definitely going back whenever I would be in the city.
Amazing food and always very consistent in terms of quality and portions. My personal favourite is the chefs special combo. Currently it’s only take out due to COVID and I can’t wait till they open indoor dining again.
Amazing foodAmazing serviceAmazing ambianceVerrrry clean washroomsNav was soooooo great .Id definitely come.again
There was 8 of us and we ordered the Chefs Platter and added extra order of appetizers to the meal, garlic naan, fenney dessert and green tea with cardamon and IT WAS SO DELICIOUS.... my husband was eating the grilled lamb chops and he was just devouring it and said OMG this is so good and I stared at him as he does not like lamb very much and then said to me have to come back here for the grilled lamb chops .......my son who is a picky eater and not the most adventurous ate the grilled meats and several servings of the rice dish (qabelli pallow) and basically ate half of the garlic naan in the baskets....and the bolani was wonderful along with the meat and vegetarian dumplings - the fenney was so creamy .....well we really enjoyed our experience.....the restaurant was busy with take out as well - definitely going back ......
We rent the hall in Afghan Chopan for a ceremony; the service was awful and the servants were super rude! The servant literally snatch the food from our guests for good couple of times while they weren’t done with their food yet! It was really embarrassing and I never recommend this restaurant to anyone!
The food is increasingly delicious. I wont mind driving there again if I can make a reservation.
Delicious food, but the advice of the workers service is not good and the shop needs to clean the tables constantly
Decor was nice and decent.Customer service was great.Portion size is not bad for the prices.Shami kabab, chicken tikka were excellent. The qabuli pilai needs some improvement in my opinion.
Ive been to many restaurants from fine dining to place rundown places that surprise.you with their quality. Being a brown boy this place has superceded any of my other experiences. Its so good I made sure my whole family tried it and they loved it too can never go wrong with this place
It is a very nice family-owned restaurant. The staff is incredibly nice, and the dishes are delicious and authentic specially Qabili Palaw and chicken Kabab so only one thing they need to work on that is Bolani because i ordered it was very dry and overall was good The recommendations were on point! Very nice place to go with friends or family with a very nice atmosphere.
One of our family favorites! We always enjoy eating here. Our favorite is the big platter with lots of different varieties of meat, rice and side dishes. Must try the rice with the beef chunks in it. Absolutely delectable! Also a big fan of their fernie dessert! We especially love that it is 100% halal also!
We went on our EID day with five families to have dinner , pre booked , we were welcomed by NAV , incredibly talented to take care of customers, we had lots of kids and she took care of them , the food was on time , we did not have wait too long . I knew the owner very well . They were very very friendly and accommodating, when ever we asked something , never said no and we had a green tee chai on the house . Very good fresh good and honestly decently priced . I recommend this Afgan family owned business every success and highly recommended.
Good kebab and very well priced food!
Good food and service.Food 3.5 star of 5.
I have tried couple dishes but chaplee kebab I like the most, delicious food with good service.
Good food, service and price.
Good.taste of their combo deal .I just feel the Kababs were not fresh seems like took out from the freezer
We ordered couple dish and was great, its chicken kebab plus generous portion of ghabeli polo and meet kebab and shank and another kind of kebab so we tried everything and it was delicious.Highly recommend
Food is good and staff is very friendly but no bottled water is available.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. Called to make a reservation for 8 of us an hour before arrival was hassle free even though the restuarant was packed the time we arrived (Sun night).Order was taken quickly and efficiently, the food arrived quickly and tasked spectacular, fresh out of the oven. Prices are resonable based on the portions provided & all food is Halal. Will definately recommended and will be back again..
Delicious as usual. Everything from their appetizers to the desserts. Ive never been disappointed here. Enjoy.
Their foods are really delicious .Definitely recommended.
The food roughly has any taste, a 5/10But never ever order their chopan kebab unless you want to eat bones because its literally nothing, just bones and very little uncooked meat with no taste and it costs 18 bucks for nothing 👎👎👎 never going back
I used to like coming here but their service is completely rude. My boyfriend was in there to pick up our food and they told me it would be ready in 30 minutes and it wasnt. We waited close to an hour! They ignored him without acknowledging him and people who came in after him they greeted. I will no longer be coming back to this place anymore!
Food was absolutely fantastic and tasty.
Traditional, authentic atmosphere and food. I admire the interior decoration and layout. The food is worth coming back for, good selection of meats. Good selection of bigger plates to break bread with the group. Good chai for the end of the meal takes some time tho give them a heads up. Has option to book medium sized party hall in the back with open buffet for the guests.
While I didnt absolutely dislike the food, I did notice that the food wasnt really authentic Afghan food. A lot of the dishes werent made the Afghan way. For example, the mantu was made with chicken rather than beef and the bolani was deep fried with a creamy potato filling and nothing else in it. It had Indian food flavor, like the topping sauces tasted more like a curry I would have in Indian food. The service was good, but very much disappointed with the authenticity issue.
I ordered from here for the first time this week. Ordered the chefs platter to try a wide variety of items and was not disappointed by the selection. Everything was excellent and I would order again.
Great food, generous portions, and inexpensive. The smell of the spices is fantastic.First time eating here or having Afghan cuisine. Found this place on Yelp decided to give it a try.We ordered the couples dinner for 2 with the vegetable dish side, my sister got the chai tea I ordered the dough to drink. After talking with the waitress we also ordered the lamb chop. All the food was great the chicken and ground beef kebab were the best, the salad and the rice were also excellent. The dough is best drank with the meal as a nice coolness to the spices. Kind of like a Yop! Drink
Chicken Chapali and Kebabs are great 👌
Recent reviews are clearly solicited. There is no way a restaurant has so many new review in one month unless they asked patrons for 5 stars. As an Afghan who knows the cuisine well, this is not at all what I expected. Traditional Afghan mantu is made with beef, not chicken. Many of the dishes have been made with a curry base which is not correct. The bolani was deep fried instead of using a skillet or cast iron plate. It’s just very sad to see the loss of culture here. Will not be returning.
My lord this restaurant is so underrated. I mean they have great food. The meat is so tender. Nothing I have eaten there has disappointed me. Wicked good!
Food is good and severs are very nice
Food is delicious. Staff is very nice.
Best Afghan foodReasonably priced
Great place for my community❤
This place has really gone downhill sadly. Their food used to be so fresh and tasty, but not anymore. We ordered the couples combo: first the palaws rice and meat tasted old and dry; the lamb chops were so bony and wasnt cooked properly. Their food portions have gotten way smaller and they just over fill it with bread. The owners/managers arent Afghani and that shows in the food...it just hasnt been the same. This the third time we ordered food and it didnt taste fresh at all. If youre looking for authentic Afghani food, stay away from this place. We will not order from them anymore.
The restaurant is quite a nice little place. The food was really good and well priced. We tried the chicken charga and chicken kabob. I recommend asking for their chutney on side; it was so fresh and tasty, should be added to dishes automatically. Definetly would recommend and will visit again.
Love the food ! Been going here for years and the quality has never dipped! If your looking for a great place to eat , go here!
Helpful staff and amazing food. best Afghani food in the market.
Taste is not good compare to Richmond location.
Amazing food and excellent service. Cant get enough of the Mantu!
Best Afghani Restaurant, probably in Canada. However, the taste has changed from before. Still tastes amazing but not as much as before.
Really disappointed with the food quality and quantity. I will not recommend this place if you want to experience authentic Afghan food.
FOOD IS VERY VERY TASTY. YOU CAN EAT THERE OR TAKE OUT. TONS OF PARKING FOR CUSTOMERS. BEST PLACE FOR FAMILY DINNERS
Had dinner here with a group of 6 adults, we ordered the chefs special combo. The food came quite fast, after about 10 minutes, and it was very delicious and portion size is good. We went on a Sunday night and it was good that we made a reservation as the restaurant became very busy.
Hands down to the best resturant in Surrey. I have never once been disappointed by the food. You won’t regret going here.
They have great food but the service is slow and inconsistent. Our dishes came out all at different times. The appetizers were super slow. They didnt even bring some of our salads and drinks that came with the combos we ordered. We ended up leaving without realizing it.
Have been here before they have nice food but yesterday we ordered kabli pulaw and I was so disappointed..while eating kabli pulaw I thought I am eating biryani pulaw no meat in it .....lamb chop were good but other kababs were bad
Combo dinner for two was fantastic - huge portions and quality ingredients. The place is legit - will definitely order again
Visiting from California and just love the food .great taste.
Best Kabob in all of Vancouver. Nothing beats the authenticity, service, and fresh tasting food that Afghan Chopan accomodates. GREAT place to enjoy fine dining Afghan food
Best service and food , portions are best
I dont know what was worst about dining here. The small portion sizes, the high prices or the fact that the restaurant keeps 50% of the tip. You decide.
Very good food, but a pathetic amount of meat in the qabeli pallow.
Tried making a reservation but they were fully booked til a later time so we tried our luck with skip the dishes. We knew it was going to be a wait because of how busy they were. When the food arrived, it was still hot and so tasty! Portions were fairly big, so we had enough left over for the next day. Mantu was delicious and the other 2 combos we had. Surprisingly the vegetable sides were some of my favourite. Cant wait to try the other dishes.
Good food and nice service but quantity seems to be a little less than what I expected.
Love food, price and lovely staff, 4 star due to location.
Extremely disappointed in the food that was served. We ordered the house special combo for 15 people. You can tell they scooped up leftover rice and they just served it to us. The food was also cold. Was not worth the price either.
Quality food with huge quantity.
Clean restaurant with kind & polite staff, the food was so delish and tasty, well cooked, and the portion was enough, and the prices are fair enough, wish it was in downtown.
