We came here on a weekday around 8pm and it was one of the restaurants still open. We ordered a small Tom yum soup with tofu, a beef green curry, and a chicken pad Thai. The food was tastier than expected and a good price compared to other Thai restaurants nearby. Tom yum soup is slightly more sour than average and a great appetite opener- includes lots of veggies. The green curry was my favorite as the flavor was perfect- spicy, salty, sweet balance, maybe would be even better if it were a bit thicker. The pad Thai was nice and moist, but I prefer if it were a bit less sweet. Portions are a decent size, not too big or small.

Chief special Salmon curry, the curry was delicious but the salmon was little bit dry. Tom yum soup was refreshing and good. The pineapple fried rice was also unique and very tasty! Out door sitting was perfect, dog friendly!

We ordered takeout and were disappointed by the quality. The pad thai noodles were thin like angel hair pasta. All the noodles were congealed and stuck together and the dish was so dry! There were three pieces of tofu and overall it was just a sad experience. I ended up throwing my food away, which Ive never done before. My husband got the curry and it was fine so Im not sure why the pad thai was so bad.

One of the best Thai places I have been to in South Bay. Staff is very kind and friendly. We tried drunken noodles and yellow curry, both were amazing. This place also has a bar counter, has a very good ambience and outdoor seating as well. If you like Thai food then this is a much visit place.

I have eaten this Thai food place every week for the past two months. The old couple owners are lovely. I love the food here. They have outdoor space for eating even during COVID time. I have eaten many Thai places and this is really awesome. I am obsessed with their green curry pork and their soup is exquisite for an affordable price.

Pretty terrible green curry. It felt like they made it from some spice packet and didnt bother to mix it and all the residue was left and made the soup spicier than it needed to be. It looked very grainy. It was way way too salty.I got brown rice and it was overcooked and not chewy. My water also had lemon seeds and I thought it was dirty until I asked the waiter if it was lemon water. Not attentive waiter (took forever to get us water) even though there were so little people in the large restaurant.

This place has really gone downhill. I have been coming here for years and always thought the food was of good quality. But today was a bad experience. The papaya salad ingredients were not fresh and I couldn’t finish after 2 bites. Then the pumpkin in the pumpkin curry was also bad (old). I wasted $30 and didn’t even get to eat dinner!

Its a good place to have Thai food. Lunch specials are mostly under $10 which is a disappearing price point in the Bay Area (2018)...Basil Chicken is the benchmark I use and they passed. Lunch portions are small, which is good for me, but others with normal appetites may find themselves looking for more. If you are on Murphy and want Thai - this is as good a place as any.

Definitely not the standard Thai place. I am not going there anymore. The prices are low, so is the quality and quantity. The green curry had a lot unwanted texture. I could only taste heat and no other flavors. I would suggest that owner and chef go out and eat at other Thai places to compare and bring up their standards. The have edge of being the only Thai restaurant in Sunnyvale downtown.

One of the most disappointing Thai restaurants Ive been to. The only thing that goes for this place is the location and ambiance. The menu lacks variety, the food lacks taste and the very ingredients that go into making it (as stated in the menu), and the portions are lesser than appetizers. If you would like to visit Sunnyvale Downtown, and also just want to eat mediocre Thai food whilst being there, then this is the place.

Not bad for a Thai restaurant. I went on a Saturday night, and there was no wait. The dining room was quiet enough to have a conversation. Bland, volume heavy and inauthentic “Thai” restaurants in the Bay Area are aplenty but Thai Basil is not one of them. You will find real Thai flavors and atomisphere here! The service is always friendly and dining here is a true pleasure. The green curry is excellent - not too thick. A great Sunnyvale institution with a legacy to boot.

I love authentic Thai food. Ive tried the best nation wide. This is by far the best Thai food Ive ever had. Yes some dishes are no better than other places, but overall this is the best. TOM Kai Kee coconut soup is outstanding and nowhere will you find a better yellow curry. Friendly staff, and family owned and operated. I eat here several times a week and having read the reviews I can say to the negative comments... ignore them. Everybody has good and bad days but after hundreds of meals I have never had a single bad experience.

Great location downtown Sunnyvale! This restaurant is close to nearby shopping, bars, and local businesses, with an old-world thai charm thats great for lunch or a weekend dinner. The worse Thai Food restaurant that I ever been to in my life .....The food is over price and the amount of food is little. They charge lots of money for customers by serving little amount of food to pay the rent of the restaurant. I been there last Tuesday June 4 of 2019, I ordered Brown curry chicken with brown rice and the taste was extreme horrible not the It used had before, I wasnt even Full....They used to serve good amount of food on 2016 but now its getting worse that I thought. Above all that they dont even provide any images of the food on their menus so the customers know what to order..I tried to communicate with the restaurant owner but no good results......I told them is this is the way you treats your customers, they said with (horrible English Accent) that their rent is expensive and they are force to serve little amount of food with higher Prices......I rather go to a regular Italian Food or Chinese that they servetheir customers with good enough amount of food with affordable Prices....This place is Rip Off.....

Spring rolls were manageable to eat but I wouldnt eat more than half of one. Tom Kha soup was really good; tasted exactly how its supposed to (Id order it again if I had the craving and was nearby). Pad Thai is served with really thin noodles which was fine; the problem was that it was really dry -which were not used to. Chefs seafood special was over salted and the rice that came with it was very dry. Service was very slow and inattentive.

It got off to a good start with Thai Basil... We are NYC transplants, so we do love our Thai food, and we decided to try Thai Basil. The Pad See Hew was decent, but then we bit into our chick satay and it was completely raw, like blood red raw. Its been 12 hours and we havent gotten sick yet, but heres to hoping we are in the clear for the next few days! So in summary, the food is decent... if they cook it.

This restaurant was one of my favorite until recent experience. Even though the portions are not big enough, the food is delicious. However I was very disappointed with their discriminatory customer service! Since I like the food there so much, I was with a party of 10 and recommended this place to my friends (all white Americans). We came in for dinner at 5pm on saturday and there was only 1 table of two occupied in the whole restaurant. Shortly after us, 2 other Asian families in groups of 6 or so came in. My whole table was waiting to get glasses with water for 40 min while other tables were getting served!! And the owner didnt even take our order until after the other two Asian families that came AFTER us were already served food. My friend took the bill and left no additional tips that day. Will never recommend this place again.
