The Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania is a renaissance style palace in Vilnius. It was originally constructed in the 15th century for the rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the future Kings of Poland (the future state of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth). Nowadays, it’s one of the best museums in the country, where you can learn all about the development of Lithuania as a nation an the country, marvel at the most interesting objects that tell Lithuania’s story. Highly recommend visiting it on any day, but especially a rainy one! You won’t regret, no matter if you’re Lithuanian or a curious foreigner.

Huge attraction. The expeditions 1 and 2 are bigger and more interesting that that expeditions 3-4 and you need much more time to see them (we recommend to get the audio guide for 1 euro as the sound is very clean). You can pass through expeditions 3 and 4 faster if you are already exhausted from the first two. Have in mind that you can get a ticket for specific expeditions if you dont want to pay for all of them.

The palace of the Grand Dukes is a very beautiful reconstructed palace. Highly recommended to spend the whole afternoon (at least 4 hours) to enjoy the exhibition. Please do rent the 1€ audio guide, they explain the architecture, history, how people live in the past and even some related background stories, totally worth every penny! The employees were all friendly. It was an very awesome experience.

It was just breathtaking, the biggest impression left on me 3D googles, where you can watch short history about how everything was built. Its a pity we had just 2 hours until the museum was closed. Enjoyed it with all my ❤

The history here is absolutely wonderful and extensive. We hired an English speaking tour guide and she was one of the curators of the exhibits and gave us such a wonderful explanation of the different exhibits. Lots of information that wasnt on the placards as well as some fun trivia about Vilnius and Lithuanian history. Very wheelchair friendly as well.

Excellent experience visiting the Palace. Lithuania has a fascinating history that needs to be shared and known. The Palace or the Grand Dukes is at the center of this cultural heritage and a must see when coming through Vilnius. I definitely recommend the guided visit with Laura (in English). Did only tour 1, very informative and easy to navigate, English language available on exhibits

This is a great museum where you can travel back in time to the era when the city of Vilnius was established. The building was rebuilt from the ground, and it contains treasures of architecture, art and craftsmanship. You should take audio guide and try 3D virtual reality session too. The place is interesting even for small children - there is places where they can sit and draw, also there is interactive consoles where you can play puzzle games with pictures from historical moments. The staff is very polite and helpful. If you have baby stroller they offer lifts and guide you to the easiest paths. All in all, its the place worth visiting.

Nice museum with a lot of things to see. Dont miss going to the top of the tower and see the view. Maybe the best view of Vilnius

Here were talking about a museum of World class! I had to go back the next day because of all the information on Lithuanian history. Definitely worth a visit or two for history buffs. The whole palace is built from scratch since the old was destroyed a long time ago, but the replica building is a marvelous sight, they have furnished the rooms with furniture and stuff so we can see how it could have been.The cellar is filled with ruins old old structures. The excavation of the site is very well documented.

The museum provides 4 tours, including the history of Lithuania from 1009AD to now, the environment in which Grand Duke lived, the armour and weaponry of medieval era as well as a special exhibition demonstrating the appearance of the deserted churches in Ukraine, Beralus and Lithuania. Because of the abundance of the history, one can easily spend the whole day or two here if he or she wants to read everything. Very impressive. Also from the observation tower in your two, you can see the Geronimo tower and the city. Perhaps way to spend the day if you are interested in history and architecture.

The palace is worth visiting. It is a very nice tour and you obtain a lot of information form the history or Lithuania and Poland. The only thing is you still realize that you in a new building when you walk through but I guess there are no other way to do this. I will still recommend this to anyone.

Interesting Museum that tells the story of the Lithuanian rulers and their Vilnius castle. Museum has 4 tours, we went on 1 and 2 that show the rulers private rooms and the archaeology/history of the castle. Tours are very reasonably priced and the exhibition descriptions are also in English. There is a AR glasses exhibit on tour 1 that shows the history of the castle, costs €1 but well worth it. Good place to go on a rainy day.

Huge museum. Has four parts: history, interiors, weaponry and art. Each part can be accessed separately for 3 euros. All access ticket costs 8 euros.

Large history museum and restored rooms, different priced tickets depending on which “routes” you want to tour, it will take at least a few hours if you choose to see it all. There is lots of information about the history of the castle and the rulers that lived there. Very interesting.

Huge rebuild palace serving as a historical overview of Lithuanian history with a massive range of preserved objects. If you take the full ticket you can walk a few miles though the buildings. All is also explained in English. Worth a visit if it has your interest.

The best museum in Vilnius, to my opinion.Very cool history explanation. I found a lot of history intersections with Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine.Dont miss video guide with virtual excursion. It costed 1 Euro more. Out explained how the city have been grooving till nowadays.

Absolutely marvelous historical place, even it was completely rebuilt from scratch, made me feel proud of my country and its people! A must see in Vilnius. Admire the restoration work and rich heritage collected in this museum!

Impressive restorations have been performed in this historical castle now transformed in a modern museum. A beautiful place for unique events and a lovely museum to learn more on Lithuania.

Excellent in depth musuem on the history of Lithuania, with all modern amenities and exhibits, built into the historical foundations. Disabled access to most areas. You have option of buying access to the whole musuem, or just specific sections. Was really one of the best museums Ive seen, that focuses on national history.

This is a really great place to go and see the history of Lithuania a great place to take all the family would highly recommend going to and its only 5€ each and its worth every penny.

Modern museum with lots of archeological exhibits that were found nearby. The building itself is a reconstruction, but the museum inside is very interesting for those who want to know more about Lithuanian history. You should definitely try 3D glasses, that show the history of the castle. The audio-guide is included in the price and takes about 2 hours. But if you need more time you can use your ticket and come back next day for free. There are new exhibition halls that are planned to be open soon.

Impressive extensive museum for history lovers. Be warned that all 4 routes take probably 4-5 hours, so if you cannot take the full tour Id recommend routes 1 and 2 with the audio guide.

Expansive museum on Lithuanian history. Can be a bit of overload trying to read it all. I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent view from the tower I hadnt realized was a part of it.

Im amazed the whole palace has been reconstructed from scratch. Even the tile stoves and ceilings are wonderful! Take your time when going there, this museum can not be visited in a hurry.

It is a completely rebuilted palace- museum. Inside of it you will find some parts of the ancient building. The museum is intersting. Also you will find VR glasses and for 2 euros you may watch the entire history of this place. The quality wasnt so good but it was very impressive.

Nice museum, with three floors plus a viewing deck. At the time of writing the third floor was under construction and unavailable for viewing. There is a neat and decent sized archeological site in the basement/ground floor, along with lots of medieval history. Some cool artifacts such as wooden, leather, and treasury pieces reside in glass cases. Also, there are a ton of stove tiles!The entry price is a great value (about 3 euros) and I did the audio tour for an extra euro. The audio tour has a few things that you wouldnt learn about if you only read the signs, although some of the audio explanations are... painfully slow. There are signs in English everywhere, so you dont need to do the audio tour if you are only an English speaker.I had just over an hour here, and this wasnt enough time to see everything thoroughly. I ended up having to rush through the big palace rooms before closing time. If youre like me --- i.e. you want to read everything and take your time --- then Id allow at least two hours, maybe more.Overall, worth the visit if you like a bit of history and want to learn more about the castle in Vilnius! :)

Excellent effort of the local administration to collaborate with archaeologists and historians to re-build a historic building and create a tunnel in time for the visitor, while bringing to light nine centuries of history. The items in the museum are put to value as they are displayed in thematic galleries for each epoch.I had a chance of visiting a temporary exposition dedicated to Simonas Daukantas which impressed me through the attention to the stages of the life and of his heritage.Another gallery was dedicated to all the people that put their efforts in finding and restoring the site - the archaeologists. A good idea to celebrate the work that made the visit so enjoyable.

Very nice museum. Id recommend visiting it in 2 days. It has a very detailed history section (the first one), which is very interesting, but long. It took us nearly 5 hours with just the 2 first sections, and we didnt have any energy left for the 2 last ones.The view from the tower is very nice, and you can really see all the churches in Vilnius. The placement of the paintings and their order is nicely chosen, and it makes for a nice afternoon

Well organized museum with interesting exhibits. Not all sections are wonderful but the palace rooms are magnificent! Photos are permitted without the use of flash. The souvenir shop will cover all basic touristic needs. Entrance fee is rather low and special prices are offered for kids and elderly.

Beautifully presented archaeology in the cellars, and a very extensive collection of paintings and artefacts.

Very well done museum of Lithuanian history. One oddity is the number of info panels about their latrine system. The VR exhibit costs an extra 1 eu but is great. It summarizes the development of Lithuania starting with the first castle on the hill. It provides a nice conext to the rest of the exhibits.

Great and detailed museum with only 8e of entrance fee (adult). Need to schedule at least 2h for the whole place.

The museum was very well done with interesting items on display. There were artworks, historical artifacts, medieval armor and weapons, completely reconstructed rooms and various texts about the countrys history. There is also an observation tower with a nice view. Very fair price, especially for a student. Free storage of items before entering. Employees were very helpful.

Though it is not an original palace but its shows and displaces are impressive.

Nicely laid out modern museum, giving a good overview of the history of the palace and Lithuania. Best to go just for tours I and II, the others are small and niche. Very text heavy so you might tire quickly.

This place still has the ruins and all the artefacts inside. This is a very nice place to visit with your family.

Frankly speaking this is simply a diner but a good one. Being in a city center in a palace / museum surrounded by museum visitors and getting plenty of great food. One of the best lunches I had ever.

Wow, They were building it forever when I still lived in Vilnius. And when I came here on holiday after some years, couldnt believe it was finished and opened for public visitors! Its a long trip there. I like to take pictures so I couldnt make it in 1 go. So the cashier was so kind to extend our tickets to a comfortable to us date, we did not need to pay again to return to see the rest!!! Security guy is also able to extend the ticket. We did not return the next day, we returned in 2 days.worth every penny. People who are not interested in that culture or who do not like taking pictures might finish it much faster. But if there is an interest in the history and photography you will take more than few hours. We finished all 4 routes per 2 times in approx. 5 hours. Recommended. Toilets all over, restaurant available, a lot of attractions such as a virtual reality, I highly recommend!!! Only hold the handles!!! The items with no sign-Do not touch- you can touch and sit on them, take that advantage!

The place is steeped in history. It was renovated recently and the best part is you can see bricks from the old structure kept exposed so that people can see them in their original glory. There is a part of it underground as well. Thank god these buildings survived the occupation era...and are still around to tell.tbwir story..
