What a nice campground. I was an hour out and made a late reservation from the reservations.gov app. Fortunately, if you arrive after hours, all you have to do is go to the front gate office and check in when they open the next day. The bathrooms and showers were amazingly clean. There are boat ramps and a beach and plenty of space between camps. Also, this is a very affordable campground. There are three large group camps and at least two playgrounds for children.

Ive camped in many many places and must say that this is by far the one of the nicest, cleanest, and best ones Ive stayed at. They have several huge, clean bathrooms. The showers are top notch and excellent water pressure. All throughout the campground are pumps for fresh water as well. Multiple campsites that are well spaced and well maintained. Watch out for the raccoons tho, they love to steal food left unattended. And the beach is definitely a welcome relief on a hot sunny day. The only negative is that there is no camp store to buy sodas, ice etc and there are no kayak, canoe, jetski rentals. However, as nice as everything else is these are minor issues, if issues at all. Would definitely recommend staying here if youre ever in the area!

Absolutely beautiful COE campground! We stayed in our 38 ft motorhome & had full hookups. Sites are very spacious. We had plenty of room for our tow vehicle. Like every COE that we have stayed at, Sugar Bottom Campground is peaceful & so lovely. Situated on Coralville Lake, you can boat and/or fish or just enjoy resting in nature. We will definitely be back!

We camped here last weekend. Sadly it was raining almost the whole time, so I don’t think we got to experience how great it could be. I would say I definitely wouldn’t feel comfortable allowing my children to ride their bikes around here at all, it’s WAY too busy. There were constantly rigs going in and out, so probably just too busy of a place for me. Bathrooms and showers were great! The little beach is ok, but sand could be better. It would also be great if there was some type of shade on the beach.

The rangers need to keep better watch. Our neighbors have 7 cars and way too many people. The one older man already walked over and verbally abused my senior mom. And they are screaming and swearing at each other. So much for a quiet night camping. No thanks.

Great place to camp midweek but Id imagine this place is hell on weekends as there can be literally hundreds of RVs crammed in here. (The weekend was booked solid when we were booking the campground) we also had the pleasure of meeting people who assumed that they had good taste in music and blasted it at us from their beached pontoon boat for an entire 30 minutes while their kids screamed at the beach.

Love this campground. We camp here every year in the group sites. Theres plenty of capacity, new bathrooms are nice, multiple playgrounds, and plenty of places to go for a walk, as well as a disc golf course. Theres a public beach area as well as a private beach area for campers. The lake is beautiful, but I wish they did more beach maintenance.

This was our first time staying at Sugar Bottom Campground, and the photos didnt do it justice. Our campsites were near the shore, and we enjoyed the gleaming sunrises and sunsets over the water. The campground was clean and laid out well. The bathrooms were well-maintained and didnt seem very busy at all considering how many people were at the camp! We spent a day on a pontoon, motoring around the lake. We found quiet areas next to beautiful cliffs (cliffs like youd find in Iowa, so not very steep, but still...) that we jumped from into cool, deep water. Later on, we stopped at a different area and docked so that we could grab a bite to eat at Bobbers and play sand volleyball. Our evenings at the campsite were relaxing. Grills were large and plenty of places to pitch our tents. The only concern, if we had to give one, would be that we missed having trashcans at the campsite. There were dumpsters to throw your trash in on the way out, but until then, you had to keep your bags on the ground near the pad or picnic table. Overall, we had a great time and plan to return!

Love camping at this place but the one thing this weekend when camping they expect you to pay $5 for fresh cut pine trees from the storm that dont burn. Otherwise great place. When you enter the staff is very nice.

Closing the campground due to a storm is unfathomable. Some people arent there camping! Some people LIVE out of their campers. You just displaced a homeless veteran, myself our 4 month old baby girl and our pets. We had another 8 nights booked! Our campsite was clear of debris and had no fallen trees directly next to it. Some people leisurely camp for us its not a choice. You also locked the bathrooms in a severe storm!!! Those are shelters when a storm hits! What if it had gotten any worse?! Where else would we have gone?!

Primitive campgrounds (walk-ups) were very muddy when wet (it had rained the day before we arrived). They seem to be built into a sloping drainage area to the lake. Otherwise, very nice park. The reservoir does allow loud boats during boating season, which may be audible from walk-up camping. Was not invasive for us.

This campground is so large you might as well park your trailer in your driveway in your residential neighborhood for the weekend. Too many cars, people, and kids running around unsupervised to enjoy a moment of peace.

Horrible experience. We set up camp because when we pulled in they have a sign saying walk in camping is welcome. The sign on the registration office says if they are closed that you can set up in an empty spot and pay later. They didnt have any open sites marked as reserved with a yellow ticket like the post says it should be if its reserved. So we spent over an hour and a half setting up camp to only to. find that our site was reserved and for 2 years now they are reservation by online only. If that is they case they need to do their job and take down the old signs and put up the correct information. The staff that we talked to was also very rude. It is also very crowded the sites are very close together. Not to mention none of the water faucets worked except the ones by the bathrooms and that water was very hot. Who wants hi it water on a hot day? I do not suggest this place at all. We will never try to return.

Ones of the most beautiful campgrounds in the area. Hundreds of campsights all flat Rock pads and well maintained, several have a great view of the lake. Can tell workers take pride in keeping it maintained. We did not have a reservation, and found out, that once you have your spot picked, you have to call, On line, to reserve give all personal info and then go way back to the front gate to get your camping ticket

Park is lovely but there was a large group that was partying loud enough to disturb a good amount of the park. They were playing loud music, vulgar language, car lights shining across their site and many others for their corn hole tournament. They treated the campground like they were at grandpas farm pond. They werent breaking any rules but truly ruined our weekend. The management did nothing to stop the behavior. Hope to go back and hopefully have a better experience.

Beautiful campground. Lots of space to camp. Very well maintained and park like. A larger rv may see some challenges with the tight turns and steep inclines just getting to the site, but worth it. Stll close to town for resupplying. The campground boat ramp is currently closed for repairs.
