The helpful nurse advised the junior staff that I can say just cancel the registration and wait another two months for appointment as though Im not standing right in front of her. And I thought of going to NSC believing in their professionalism and expertise. However the junior staff was very pleasant. Even though I have to wait so long shes sincere in apologising for my wait. Messed up exp. Went to see doctor for 3 issues. Previously already consulted 4 doctors which all claimed that my issues are valid, one of it being dandruff. So I went for my referral to NSC, my doctor was senior consultant. Despite me telling him Im able to see countless white flakes when I comb my hair every morning, this was verified by my prev. 4 doctors as well, yet this guy say dont have. The thing is he doesnt even want to carry proper check, he didnt want to use his hands at all. I then showed him a picture I took which show the flakes, he said its reflection of the hair, when the picture clearly shows the flakes as well. Then, I told him my balanitis lasted for more than a year (red, swollen). He then said its not possible, when a simple Google search will tell u that therere multiple ppl out thr who have balanitis persistently for a few years. I showed him and he says its excess skin. Lol.I also asked regarding hair loss due to visible scalp. Then this guy say compare my scalp to his scalp (he is balding). Then ask me dont worry and thats all. Oi, carry proper check will u?All 4 doctors Ive seen previously verified the issues, hes the only one who said all no issues. Not professional at all, it was obvious he wasnt keen to conduct any check at all.

The wait here is extremely long, even though everyone has their own appointment timing. Getting medicine from the pharmacy requires a different queue slip being obtained. Some doctors are unfriendly and have no bedside manner, but most are nice. The skin centre is in process of moving to a new building right nearby, so there are constant construction noises. The price for a consultation is around $70, and theres a subsidy of 50% for Singaporeans

Lack of follow up between doctors as a different doctor was seen each time - to the point that there is lack of care/proper treatment of the condition because of disjunct between the treatment given by different doctors at each appointment. I understand that you may not get the same doctor each time as a matter of workflow and as a subsidised patient. However, it appears that doctors do not take enough heed (if at all) of the previous consultations advice and developments - which should have been written down in the clinic notes.Met a doctor for a particular condition that she specialises in (thus was allocated to her when I made my first appointment). Her advice after the appointment was: you are currently on medicine A - doesnt seem to work too well and thus I will lower the dose of medicine A with a view to likely transitioning to medicine B on the next appointmentNext appointment: no longer seeing the first doctor, met by another doctor. (In fairness, am unsure if this is due to the first doctor discharging the case from her charge, or whether it is simply a matter of NSCs workflow that any doctor can be allocated to the patient, even if it is a follow-up/subsequent appointment about the same matter) Other doctor prescribes a continuation of medicine A on that lower dosage, with no transitioning to medicine B as previously indicated would likely be done. Doctor made no mention of any alternative treatment whatsoever (medicine B or otherwise) With a lower dosage of medicine A and no new medicines added, the condition did not improve and even worsened. Am unsure if this subsequent doctor simply did not read the clinic notes, or had no confidence in prescribing a change in medicine. Noted also that doctor prescribed an alcohol-based cream when my condition involves open wounds. Only realised this when collecting the medicine at the pharmacist - which is an entirely different process from the consultation. It is virtually impossible to go back to look for the doctor to clarify on the medicine given that there is a separate queue (and long wait time).

Pretty put off by a couple of things:1. Long waiting times of up to/over an hour despite having a scheduled appointment time.2. Encountered inexperienced residents doctor or the senior doctor who doesnt provide much help to my eczema issue.3. Was told that I can only managed my eczema with topical steroids and no other treatment options were suggested or explored. (And all this topical steroids can actually be provided by the polyclinic/regular GP) Why am I paying much more to supposedly see a skin specialist but not getting much help with my condition?4. Long waiting time at the pharmacy to collect medication.Cancelled all my future appointments for reviews. So Id suggest paying a bit more for private skin specialist for a quicker resolution/treatment rather than wasting your time and being frustrated here. :)

My son, while doing his national service, developed a serious skin condition which warranted 4 visits to the doctors over 2 months with different diagnosis ranging from fungal infection to viral infection to eczema. Instead of getting better, the rashes continued to grow in number and size, covering his entire torso, neck, limps and even the face. Finally, a dr at the poly clinic referred him to the NSC. Unfortunately, just because I’m on SHN as I just arrived from Sydney, he was refused treatment when he went there. There was no compassion despite the fact that he needed immediate medical attention as directed by the dr at the poly clinic. His circumstances of being in the army means he has little freedom to take leave nor the flexibility in his schedule. He was practically shoved away by the staff. In the end, I told him to go to Mt Alvernia Hospital and despite their dermatologists being fully booked for the day, he was able to get medical attention immediately. I’m shocked and disgusted by the NSC’s blatant disregard for a sick person’s need for medical attention. Is this how the medical profession should behave in the midst of a pandemic? Shame on you! Thank goodness not all healthcare services providers behave like you. I’ve told my family and friends about our experience and rest assured they all share my shock and disgust. I would like this matter to be escalated. We are lucky that we could afford private healthcare. What about those people who are financially disadvantaged, where do you expect them to go to get proper treatment?(Above message was sent to NSC via Messenger. It was read and ignored. Unbelievable! They don’t even deserve one star.)

First posted on 11 October 2020 on National Skin Centre’s Facebook page.Dont bother wasting your time and money here. The care advice that the doctors have here are similar to the ones given by polyclinic and private doctors as they are all taught to push topical steroids as the first option. Have been prescribed topical steroids for 2 decades by many general doctors with no improvement and decided to come here as a last resort as I knew they had alternative treatments and a specialised team. Told my doctor that I wasnt keen on topical steroids as stronger dosages have actually worsened my condition rather than improved it. My requests were ignored and the doctor continued to push steroids. She was so insistent on prescribing steroids despite me saying no and her attitude immediately became very condescending and dismissive the minute I asserted that topical steroids weren’t suitable for me. I had to prompt and ask for more info about patch tests and phototherapy before my doctor decided to explore alternatives. She called in 2 other senior doctors and their attitudes were similar. Aren’t doctors supposed to respect patients’ wishes?Doctor also does not seem to know what she’s doing. Prescribed PUVA soak but nurses quickly realised I wasn’t suitable for it and they were the ones who had to recommend an alternative treatment. Also received conflicting messages from doctor and the nurses. Doctor tried to push steroids and told me to moisturise liberally, of which I did the latter. However, when the nurses noticed my deteriorating condition, they told me not to apply topical steroids and moisturisers as it will aggravate my skin further.Very disappointing and traumatic experience to be dismissed by the people who are supposed to help you. Do better. Here are some alternative resources for those who’ve had a similar experience to mine at National Steroids Centre. I seriously think there is a problem with collecting meds at their pharmacy dept. The wait is 45 mins just to collect ur meds n if u want home delivery there is only ONE counter n its at least a half hour wait cos this ONE counter performs 3 other functions besides taking details for home delivery. In this time when we are trying not to encourage crowding the pharmacy was packed and there were many elderly in the crowd !!. The seats were all taken and people were standing around. Worst thing is when you reach the counter they tell you that home delivery is ONLY for prescription refills and not for new medications!! Shouldnt this be highlighted at the start of the Q?? Maybe the Skin Centre should learn something from the NUH regarding how to be more efficient.

Dont bother going there expecting any quality. The processes are the most primitive in all of the healthcare system in Singapore. I have visited them for two years now, fr subsidised clinics and Mandalay Clinic. So far, nurses are quite polite there, and I applaud their patience in making do with their broken machines. Almost every time Im there, the systems are down. The doctors are the main issue here. They are very entitled, knowing that they work at the prestigious NATIONAL SKIN CENTRE. Patients from the entire public health systems would get referred to them without competition so they dont care about you.Yesterday, I did a full face laser at Mandalay Clinic. Doctor Chua who did my laser was really unpleasant throughout.I was asked to wait for someone/something at a closed lounge with no instructions, and 40 min in, nothing happened. There was also no point of assistance in the lounge. No nurses or workers.Prior to the laser appointment, the referring doctor said that this doctor would decide the price during my first visit. When I met Doctor Chua, he gave his first advice for me to not do any laser treatment at all, because this cosmetic procedure could be more damaging than not doing it. While I appreciated that medical advice, by this time, I would already have paid close to $200 excluding earlier doctor to get referred here. Couldnt they tell me earlier how much it costs (in a reasonable range) and make it an SOP to say the do-at-your-risk disclaimer over the phone BEFORE I come? Now I have this sunk cost on my mind and I certainly wouldnt follow the doctors best advice and pay $200 consultation for some steroid creams.Procedure was really painful, possibly due to the inadequate numbing cream applied coupled with my bad pain tolerance? In any case, no matter how much pain I was in, the doctor did not stop or offer any comfort at all. He just wanted to finish his job asap. Isnt it unsafe for me to be in so much pain (moving around, drooling and screaming) while doing a face laser procedure?Right after procedure, he left rudely without a word. When I got off the bench, I was still in pain. The nurse ushered me to a desk and passed me two rectangular ice packs (those used for frozen fish) to DIY-sooth my face. They are not useful at all as the face isnt a flat surface. Plus I had the numbing cream on, so I really couldnt feel where I was placing the ice pack on. There was no mirror. This was just a really odd and uncomfortable process. It would have been useful if they had applied a cooling pad on my face after the procedure. I thought thats basic. My face continued to swell up into the night due to the useless ice packs. The facility is simply SO under my expectations.Anyway, this pico-laser pigmentation removal procedure came to around $1000 give and take, excluding the time and cost of the referral from public health system. So there you go. I think I would go private next time.

But to the very least, do respect someone who do not speak fluent English, like my mom. When my mum asked about the procedure, she brushed her off and began talking to me instead as my mom was not able to comprehend.Next, as a student, I have a fixed schedule. Due to the fixed schedule, I have more enquires on the appointment slots. Dr Ong was being very impatient, her tone was very unkind and her replies werent clear at all. Above that, when I mentioned I couldnt turn up for the appointment slot , She highlighted that she could provide a MC. Therefore I have to come, if not she would not be able to give an explanation to her management.Lastly, the appointment system is very inconvenient. As mention by Dr Ong, I should secure a slot first. However, it does not guarantee that I would be able to go through the treatment in the given time frame. As a patient, I would like to understand the point of booking appointment at a certain time slot just for it to be push back. And I hope that the respective department would look into the matters.

Go ahead to register even if you reached earlierI found out that the clinics actually open slightly earlier than 8am, the official hours. So no worries if you reached earlier. But if your appointment is in the afternoon, there is not need to reach in the morning. As Doctor will see other patients before you. And you may need to wait for Long time. Am i a testing-rat?All over the diagnosis process, this doctor never told me what is the symptom or how to prevent it from happening again or what should I pay attention to. All the things he did was watching his computer and typing. and he seems very rushing as he just left me with the medicine and say come back later to check up again.I paid almost $200 consultation fee just for less than 10 minutes useless talk?

Absolutely the best (for me personally) Skin Center I ever been to. 3 times I had been treated and given consultation (since 2001), and all the time they were very detailed and thorough. Their medication may not work for some but for me its a miracle. It is very easy to make an appointment even if youre not a citizen like me. For the amount of money I spent on this facility and the result I got, I can easily recommended this place to anyone with acute Eczema/Dermatitis Atopic.

The receptionist (Rosalia) at clinic A at level 3 was Super rude and unprofessional. We asked for a different nurse as the junior Nurses was not precise and not professional during treatment, she replied that all Nurses are good and we should be “lucky” that there is even a nurse attending to us... like what does that even mean I’m paying for the service so and we keep coming back for treatment as they cannot do their job properly. She could have just said we cannot request for more senior nurse her attitude was so bad, I didn’t want to cause a scene so I just walked off but I think the management should look into this. I went there before for another treatment and went making payment this same person was scolding another staff infront of all the customers even insulting her and degrading her the worst part is that the other staff wasn’t in the wrong and it’s Super unprofessional.

My appointment was 11:15am, I came at 10am hoping to at least be able to immediately see the doctor when my time comes, ended up seeing the doctor at 12pm and the doctors attitude is bad. I am really disappointed with the service and punctuality of this place.

Only worth the wait if you get a good doctor. Pharmacy queue is illogical. They will without doubt cause you to miss the shuttle bus (I kana a few times alr). Even just collecting prescription, make sure you got loads of buffer time. Dont arrange other appointments.

Terrible time schedule planning for the appointment allocation and billing payment.Came in 30 mins earlier, however waiting more than a hour for those late comers to the clinic whom have missed their appointment timing. After consultation ended, was told to wait at the counter for billing purposes.Waited for another hour plus which there are no collections of medications or other appointment setting at all. For people whom came later or after the waiting list are pushed behind. What kind of system is this in current Y2020?Looking at all other feedbacks here, no doubt this is the worst place of all.

After getting a referral letter for my son from the normal polyclinic, i received just an SMS stating the date and time, which is a school day morning, without even bother to call us at all.I called back to explain the timing and they gave me an appointment to wait another 2 mths.Seeing doc just now is quite fast. Waiting to arrange appointment and paying for service is quite fast. Then we have to go pharmacy to get another waiting number is stupid.....This place need to be better wired up to ensure a better flow and cutting down on timing. Why cant they make the payment to be of one time instead of two?

Patients are not your Guinea pigs. I understand that student nurses are not as experienced as docs/nurses. But if you tried for 4 times attempting to get get blood for blood tests and doc had to volunteer himself (he walked past the students twice to see if they are having difficulties) to get it in the end, really? please dont find it embarrassed to ask other docs/nurses for help! Its about creating an environment where one learns from one another! Thank goodness the doc got it in the end! Kudos

Extreme inefficient service. Need to wait for very long time to make payment and take the medicine. The staffs at cashier/appointment counter are not doing their job properly. They looked very free, some of them just walking around and talking to each other while many patients are waiting for their queue numbers to be called.

Its really difficult to make an appointment. The earliest dates they give is like a few months away. Working hours are so stringent too.And if you get lucky and make one, the doctors are usually very young people ( could be residents too) . It would be great to see some doctors with experience handling our cases. And everytime its a new doctor. So there is no sense of familiarity, and the doctors dont know their patients. There is so much room for improvement.

Today is my third and hopefully final visit back to National Skin Centre. I understand that its subsidiary care but the care afforded to patients is less than stellar at best and usually terribly delivered. Appointment was at 0820, and had to wait to 0945 for my number to be called at the cashier and appointment area. Mind you, there is still the pharmacy section after this. I was told that as the doctor I saw was a jr doctor, it had to be approved by a senior. Others who came for 0900 - 0930 appointments were called faster. The staff processing my payment and appointment also had her colleague coming over to disturb her while she was attending to me. Just my luck to have a jr Dr? Maybe. More apparent is their lackadaisical service delivery model which do not have patients at heart.

I’m an patient suffering from eczema, during my two previous trips to NSC wasn’t bad at all, the doctors there are kind. But the wait time is over one hour long which is worser than a Polyclinic appointment. Whelp, sadly i have to take more than one medications and my mom have to pay $300+ for it. Totally not worth a visit, better off seeing a private derm who is much more experienced. Or visit any hospitals like SGH, ect.

Ive took loads of antibiotics for months n then prescribed me on a different antibiotic with no improvement also. A lady doctor didnt even look at my face condition properly. What kind of consultation is this?! My trust and confidence in the doctors has dropped to a negative. You cant treat every patient the same. What u did is just putting a band aid on the problem. Your practice DO NOT work.To everyone who is struggling with acne, your gut health is the one u could focus on. Cut down on ur dairy n sugar intake. Sweet drinks n cows milk, remove it from ur diet.Im not going back to the nsc. Now im trying out on probiotics or supplements.

The coordination after seeing a doctor is really bad & really needs huge improvements.I was directed to the cashier, whom I waited for 30 to 40mins. After seeing some patients who saw the doctor being served before me, I approached a staff at the counter, who checked & told me that my case was referred to the Pharmacy.Wasted my time waiting. If I had been more patient, I would have ended up waiting for an even longer time.Todays lesson taught me never to be patient at government hospitals & clinics!

Walked-in as a patient. Told by the registering officer that the wait will take some time. Waited 1.5hrs. Went to check with reception only to be told that the wait could be as long as 3 hours or more.I understand that walk-in patients are served after fixed appointments. However, you can do a much better job in managing expectations. If Id had known that I would have to sit here half a day to be seen, I would have made other plans.Pretty crappy service, NCS.

I get more knowledge from googling than from them. 1 doctor was so rough on me it made my skin bleed. U get a different doctor each time u go. If lucky, u get 1 that has more EQ.
