Temple is very old and huge. This is Shivan temple and Singalavelar is Urchavar. Perumal temple is also there in same compound. Arunagirinathar sung Thiruppugazh here. This is the temple God Murugan received Vel from Ambal to transform Asuran into peacock, not killed, please note :)A must visit temple for all Murugan devotees. It is Unofficial Seventh Padaiveedu.(murugan had aarupadai veedu(6 abodes))This temple main God is sivan but murugan is famous and Sikkal temple known for Murugan. Here where Murugan got Vel from Parvathy/Amman his mother to war with soorabadhman,demon in Thiruchendur. Murugar idol is only urchavar/procession deity not as Moolavar/presiding deity. After completion of war murugan settled in Thiruchendur which is now famous pilgrimage.It said to be that here murugar will get sweat heavily on day of every year when vel given to murugan.

When we were at this temple, in the evening, around 7pm, we were the only ones. So we had a great darshan of lord Murugan, undisturbed for a long time. Temple was well maintained. Know about the temple and then visit. There are four main deities here.
