Tatya Tope was a brave man who led the fight against British Raj during first freedom struggle in India in 1857.He was commanding a small army for his lord, Nana Sahib and also fought in coordination with another legendary figure named Rani Laxmibai, the queen of Jhansi. He had captured Gwalior once but finally lost to British commanders after long battles. He was captured and tried at Shivpuri, summer capital of Gwalior Dynasty. He was hanged in 1859 at the spot where his memorial is created. A very basic structure but commemorating a great phase of history. One must visit the spot to show respect to a freedom fighter
