This is a small facility but amazing , being managed very well they serve a small menu of fast food and baked items , located near to theridge at taka bench , they have a good collection of books one can spend some good time reading over a cup of coffee , must visit when in shimla , thefood quality can be improved a little bit ...!!!

Its an amazing place for food and for working. Theres WiFi, soulful food and the ambience is beyond amazing. Upon entering the cafe you will find yourself surrounded by books, which is a bonus if youre a book lover. Even if youre not, the vibes of the place are so refreshing, that youd want to spend all your time here. Another point worth mentioning here, is the view from the place. The view is awe-inspiring, and there are tables outside in the balcony that face the mountains. You would love to book a spot here and sit forever!

Book Cafe is paradise for book lovers and book worms. Ambience and view on one side is great. You can pick up books from their nicely stocked library or carry your own book or Kindle. Order tea or coffee and some snacks. Be bit choosy about snacks as some are good and some not so good. Rates are reasonable. The cafe is run by inmates undergoing prison sentence. One aim of Book Cafe to reform them is certainly achieved, it is impossible to believe that this run by people who are convicts. Kudos to Department of Prisons.A must visit place for Book lovers or those seeking little calm and quite. Solitude will not be there as most of the time place has quite a few visitors.

Book cafe is situated above the Ridge, Shimla. This place provides certain positive vibes that can only be felt in person. Reading books in the lap of nature while enjoying your coffee is an ideal way to spend your mornings or evenings. This cafe is being run by prisoners of Kaithu jail, Shimla. The cafe has a wide range of books, but you can sit here for only an hour.

Amazing initiative by the Indian Police Force and probably one of the first of its kind in India. This cafe is operated by the inmates of the Himachal Prison, where convicts serving life sentence are allowed outside the prison to run the book cafe. This initiative allows them to integrate with people and society and can also earn wages to financially support their families.The Bakery is decebt, has outdoor and indoor seating, with amazing views. You can relax and grab a book and enjoy! The quality of the food can be improved though.

Here you will find books of every genre and for every age group. Seating capacity is of good 8-10 people. Their hot-dog was good too.A cosy place to have coffee, read books and enjoy the weather of hills.

Its one of the best places in Shimla. Formerly run by prisoners and now an awesome management, this is the right place if you are looking for a hot ginger lemon in a quiet place away from the Shimla crowd. I stayed here for around 4 hrs and couldnt have asked for a better service. Highly recommended

A nice cafe with good food and good books to read. The ambience is peaceful.There is not much variety in food but prices are reasonable. You will also not get much variety in books but they do have some really good books ranging from Charles Dickens to IIAS Publications.Most books are donated so it will take time to build a diverse collection.A good initiative.

The ambience is good. One gets to read a book with a fine view. The food is not so good. I ate pizza which wasnt tasty at all. If you really have to eat or drink something, drink coffee or may be snack on chips.

Small and cozy and nice. Just the perfect location for a shop so unique. Came by it on one of our recent tuesday trips to Jakhu and needed some toffee to keep my grandmother occupied. When going to or coming from a trek so high it is nice to have a shop for water and refreshmwnrs. The tourists have a great help with this business.

Book Cafe is located in Shimla in the vicinity of Meena Baazar above the ridge and is run by four prisoners of Kaithu Jail who have been given a life sentence. The cafe is funded by the tourism department of Himachal Pradesh and offers its customers a wide variety of snacks and beverages.The cafe was constructed with a motive of rehabilitating the prisoners and bringing them a normal and healthy life. An amount of about 20 lakh rupees was invested in inaugurating it. The prisoners serving here are Jai Chand, Ram Lal, Raj Kumar and Yog Raj.They have been taught by professional chefs so they can serve their customers well. Once the cafe is closed after 9 pm, all the prisoners are taken back to the cell.

Perhaps one of the most happening spots of Shimla. Grab a coffee and a book and let the aroma of this town sink in deep to awaken your soul!

Nice restaurant run by prisoners of shimla jail. a great initiative of himachal govt to change lives of thousands of prisoners inside jails. eatery menu has lots of variety. food is delicious. restaurant is situated just near the great Ridge Ground. must visit place if your looking for a peaceful place to sit and enjoy meal in this overcrowded city. you will probably love the concept of govt to utilise prisoners in cafe sothat they can learn social responsibility.
