Very good environment to study.

Established in 1985, the JU library is equipped with a huge collection of books. Located behind a monument of Sangshaptak, the library is conveniently placed between the main academic buildings and the dormitories. The entire area has Wi-Fi coverage. There are more than 110,000 books, 14,000 hardbound journals, and 22,000 online journals in the library. The library can accommodate over 170 students at a time. There is a cyber centre on the premises. Airy with ample glass openings, the library is an elegant piece of architecture.Obtaining and cancelling a library membership involves a fair number of steps. The library administration plans to extend the library buildings and make the whole system computerised, to make it easier to lend books. The librarys design used to be more spacious than it currently is. But the authority did not complete its entire structure. This results in students facing problems when using the library, especially since the university is residential

The best place for deep study. From Morning 8 AM to Evening 8 PM, 7 days a week.

Though its a great place for studying but I think there is lack of seats available for the increasing number of students of the university. I used to become frustrated when I could not find any seat for my study. So, library building should be extended ASAP

This library have wide range of book. Can meet with the demand of knowledge seekers. Though it is only for Students & officers of JU. I need to mention that the reading room is Awesome!!!

In front of the library, you can find the sculpture named Sangsaptak. It is a three storied building and open six days a week.

This is the only Central Library in Jahangirnagar University. The Collections of the books on this library is very rich. This is one of the richest libraries in Bangladesh. Many Students come here to read books.

This is an awesome and nice place for collecting knowledge on different topics from a huge number of books. Here all the students are allowed to study at their sweet will. Students can borrow books and read them inside living room. This library is enriched with all kinds of modern facalities. Here WiFi is available for the students.

Several initiatives, including ongoing digitisation, have scripted a turnaround story for the central library of Jahangirnagar University (JU). And general students are the happiest of the lot.“Even a year ago, we had to queue an hour before the library’s opening time to get a seat inside to study.But now, the facilities have improved and no student has to go back,” said Anas Uddin Ovi, a third-year honours student of the geography and environment department.According to the library administration, the seats have been doubled from 246 last year and there were plans to add at least 100 more seats this year.The authorities have also assigned a certain number of seats to accommodate first-year male students. Earlier, there was no reading scope for these students at the male dormitories as they had to stay put for at least one year in the so-called “Gono Room”, which was mostly unfit for study.The library’s timings have been extended too for the convenience of general students.Now, the library is open every day, including holidays, from 7.30am to 10pm.The administration has also taken the initiative to digitise the library by installing CCTV cameras and taking up a digital library management project.Sources said the construction work of the library was stopped halfway in 1986. Thirty years later, however, the numbers of students and teachers have increased by leaps and bounds, but the remaining portion of the building is yet to be constructed.Prof. Ajit Kumar Majumdar, acting teacher of the library, said, “Shortage of funds is the main problem. We need budgetary allocation to complete the construction. However, we have the chance to make the best use of the available space here. We can bring about systematic changes and have started doing this.”The authorities have installed the digital library software package “Koha” to assign a user account to every student, enabling them to read and exchange books online, he said.The “Koha” library management software package is based on the Linux operating system, which is more secure than Windows, said IT experts entrusted with the digitisation of the library.At present, the database of first-year students has been completed, and compiling of similar databases for the other academic years is in progress, they added.To impart digital skills to the library staff, the authorities have already organised several training workshops by digital library management experts and seminars under the university’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).Prof. Majumder said: “I have lot of plans for the library. When I was put in charge of the central library, I found it beset with numerous problems. However, we have already overcome most of the problems.”

Central Library of JU situated beside Shahid Minar. Its a three stored building and open 7 days a week. Students of this university can read books if they have authorized Card. Totally silent environment and awesome place to study.

Lovely place

The only library of Jahangirnagar University with a reputation of accommodating students with a rich collection of book, offering free wi- fi. This place is a heaven for job seeker since they arrive very earlein the morning and stay till the evening. However the current capacity of the library is quite poor.

I find it less attractive than other buildings of Jahangirnagar University as a library building. Didnt get in as an outsider. I have no idea what the books collection is like, other benefits.

The universitys central library, a variety of books available, is also a great place to read.

It was supposed to be Asias largest university. Due to being a small part, the inadequate library library is not standard compared to the student population.
