I cant say enough about Hawthorne Commons as a place to live! The staff is great and very helpful as they go above and beyond to make sure our needs are met! The maintenance staff is top notch with speedy and timely repairs and always with a smile. The grounds are meticulously groomed at least once a week. The units themselves are updated and quiet which I cant say enough about as I have a hearing disability which magnifies sound ten fold! These units were built right! The pool and pool area are incredible and always clean and they even have state of art grills in the pool common area! I guess the only negative would be the gym but only due to its all size, but they have one!

A waste of time and money. To start, their application is ridiculous, like purchasing a mortgage, they required far too much information. After completing the long application and approval the Hawthorne Commons waited 6 days to deliver a lease agreement. Their lease agreement had a gouging month-to-month price increase that requires months of notice to avoid an auto-renewal on. Even though I immediately rejected this agreement I could not recover my $250 application fee because of the long delay delivering the lease agreement. They also required first month and security deposit to be delivered by cashiers check or money order which is very inconvenient for those that bank online.Luckily I was able to find an identical apartment for $500 less per month that accepts modern banking payment methods and has a MUCH simpler application form.

If you have asthma STAY AWAY!!! Not accommodating to non-smokers.Were moving out early due to second-hand smoke issues. They did offer to address the issue with our neighbor by telling them to smoke outside, however, they refused to listen to us about why this wouldnt actually resolve this issue but instead would only lead to conflict with the neighbor. We just wanted to leave.if you would like us to address the issue with your downstairs neighbor, please let us know.I offered to reach out to this neighbor and address the smoking issue, which you declined. I am happy to reach out to her now to make your last few weeks here be more enjoyable. Please let me know if youd like me to do so.Theyll probably even reply to this review saying they offered to resolve it and I went ahead and quoted them so they dont have to. Kicking this lady out or making her smoke outside wont even fix that issue. Our bathroom consistently smells like someone had just smoked in there. Same with our laundry room. Take a look at the photo and its no surprise! Smoke goes through the inside vents and the outside too.The downstairs neighbor had furniture brought in today and her door was open in the interior of the building, which everyone must walk by to get to their room, as hers is the first door as you enter the building. The ENTIRE interior entrance stairway was filled with the smoke stench and we were gagging.Keep in mind, we let Hawthorne Commons know that Ashley has bad asthma and their only solution is tell her to smoke outside. Nothing can be said to this neighbor that would make us happy. We just wanted to move and get out. They let us out but we have to pay a fee to break our lease, which to me is the most laughable thing about our stay here. Its not like we have a choice! My partners doctor even wrote us a letter telling us to move out for her health ASAP.Besides the second-hand smoke and Hawthorne Commons response, the grounds are clean and the maintenance staff, especially Jose, are amazing. Its such a shame that I have to recommend non-smokers not live here. Youll surely regret it like we did.

This is a great place to live enjoy the secured buildings and the up keep also the convenience of having stores near by for all your needs. Glad I dont have to shovel my vehicle out when it snows as I am unable to due to a back injury. Love the convenience of not having to worry about parking during a parking ban. I highly recommend this community.

We just finished a 2 year stay at HC. Highly recommend due to the staff and location! The complex is located about a 15 minute walk from a small shopping center which has a Target, grocery stores, and some fast food options. The complex itself is well maintained and has a pool and small gym. We loved the staff here! We were moving from across the country and they were super helpful in working with us. They also put on monthly activities for residents (pool parties, food trucks, yoga nights, etc.). Any maintenance issues were resolved very quickly. The only small critique I have is that our apartment didnt have as much sunlight as we would have liked due to its location on the Highland Ave side of the complex. It really could have used some ceiling lighting as floor lamps can only do so much. Also, the kitchen has good storage, but we would have loved to have a bigger pantry cupboard. Other than that, the unit and apartment complex definitely met our expectations. :)

The apartments are ok, extremely expensive. We were not told about the parking situation before putting in the deposit. Maintenance is really good. My main problems began in the move out process. It took over 3 months to get our deposit back... supposedly the manager was on maternity leave and somehow nobody could be bothered to send us a check (or it was lost in the mail?? They really said that I’m not kidding). We had to call probably 50-60 times because nobody answered the phone, returned messages or did anything about the money we were owed. Finally we went in person several times and got the check super inconvenient and total mismanagement.Fast forward to today 6 months later. I received a utility bill from the months of September and October (2 and 3 months after I moved out) asking me to pay Hawthorne commons directly... not the utility company. I had already closed my account with the utility company. The office manager (who honestly I never had any problems with and is the only competent person in the whole office) has not responded to my email.I would like to resolve this situation please email me back as soon as possible.

Great staff, apartments are in pretty great condition despite the age of them. Any issues I ever have, maintenance is really quick to respond and has always fixed the issue. We sometimes have noise issues but that’s going to happen no matter what apartment complex you live in. There’s not much you can do about it. Some neighbors are very loud in the courtyards, dog waste isn’t picked up, but the complex does its best to combat what they can. The location is super convenient to Target and the grocery store, as well as transportation if you need. They also recently improved their packaging system to make it easier for residents to pick up their packages 24/7 which is a lifesaver for when we work past office hours. Overall, we have been content living here for almost 2.5 years now.

I was there for a few years an it kept getting worse from accusations to the point where I was showing them they were wrong to eventually just laughing at them as well as family and friends were. Once they get your money they dont care. Some guy who also lived in the building as me at all hours of the night for over a month was forcefully trying to break down my front door an I didnt even know him an Hawthorne refused to even talk to the guy or even apologize to me also my car was vandalized an I wasnt the only one an again they did nothing. Everything is so thin from walls to floor. You can hear people going to the bathroom an washers and dryers being used. There is never any parking again Hawthorne never cared they just told us what we wanted to hear. Its luxury for lower class . Animals use the pool. I have video of drug deals going on there as well do others an people breaking glass outside an random guys at night taking a pee outside. I called them out on their lies a bunch of times an they didnt like it . I know a bunch of people who have left because of similar problems. Dont waste your time or money with Hawthorne Commons its not what they make it out to be. After saying only some of the problems there now I bet the response will beour legal team has viewed your claims and found no problems or they will deny anything because thats what they do its all fake there. I have no questions or anything if anything comes up my lawyer will contact your office .

If you do Not see the exact unit that you will be renting, do NOT leave a deposit. The model unit is lovely. There are other 2 bedroom units that are set up quite differently. The brochure shows the layout but it is hard to tell without actually seeing the unit. They will tell you that your unit is not available. I left a deposit but 3 days later when I was able to see the unit, I discovered that only a small couch could be used in the den. The counter stuck out so nothing could be beneath that, the slider was on another wall and a door to the bedroom on the other. There wasnt any space for a table. And this unit was $2100 a month! The management team would not refund the deposit and didnt have another unit to offer. When asked why they were keeping the $250, we were told that they had to check our credit. Really, for $250???? Poor management!

If you have another option, steer clear of this place! We moved out in 2015 after a 6 month long battle with the incompetent office staff regarding the fact that myself, husband, and 1 year old baby had to sleep on our living room floor for the better part of 7 months. The reason? You could see your breath in both bedrooms all winter long! Mind you, this was winter 14-15 so it was a bad one. These conditions were extremely un-safe (esp with a 1 year old) and extremely costly. I was given the run around endlessly from the very rude office staff, and maintenance as to why it was so cold. Very poor attempts at fixing the problem. As it got colder, the poor construction and lack of general concern as HUMANS that paid an astronomical amount for a 2 bedroom was extremely frustrating. We occupied a 2 bedroom apartment as an efficiency for 90% of our lease term. It got to a point where there was snow INSIDE of our house. The only way we could sleep was to pile blankets, pillows, and anything else we could find against the door to stop the snow from coming in. I had to consistently run 3 space heaters in addition to the thermostat being as high as it went. My final attempt to resolve this was to have maintenance come yet again, and i was told by their employee that the place was built cheap, the office wouldnt allow him to fix it properly and to duct tape the door shut. Well that wont work well with a dog that needs to go outside. Not to mention the bugs, oh the bugs, and we are very clean people. It was disgusting and all tenants shared the same frustration. I reported the dyer that stopped working and the maintenance man that came to our unit advised me they have not cleaned the ducts since the property opened. This is a pretty serious fire hazard. Miraculously the management sent out a letter two days later that they were going to be entering all units to clean the ducts after i made the complaint and advised the office of the dangers. Funny right? It become so extreme that I hired an attorney to file suit against the organization for violating several laws, that the company was required to follow per chapter 93a in Massachusetts. The company blatantly LIED and had their expensive lawyer deny all issues even with excessive documentation and accuse me of slander. They sited that I signed a lease etc, well yes I did, with the understand that they would be obligated to act per the terms stated in the lease on their part as well. I most certainly did NOT sign any contract allowing this sort of conduct in any capacity. I could not afford to take the company to litigation due to all the rent and EXTREMELY high utility bills. The statue of limitations allows me to go to litigation for 3 years, and I plan to pursue this when funds allow. They are liars, cheats, thieves, and BREAK THE LAW! You will be treated as an animal and they certainly do not care one bit about their tenants. Dont expect packages on time (or ever), they held a pair of prescription glasses in their office for 6 months before finally giving them to me. Animal feces everywhere, and if you have an animal and complain they will blame YOU. This is after I reported the tenants that I witnessed not picking up after their dog and reported it to the office. The office staff all have chips on their shoulders and treat you as if they are superior to you. They pay the big guy to intimidate you when you try to take legal action when they break the law hoping that you will just give up considering the cost of litigation, violate standard health/living codes and violate many tenants rights laws. We have lived in many communities like this and have never experienced such an awful management company with office staff that treats other humans with such disregard. A year later and Im still disgusted by this experience. Save yourself some money, and stress by looking elsewhere!
