Awesome experience of visiting this Dam. The views on road to dam from Reasi are mesmerising. It takes 30-40 min drive from Reasi to reach there. For visiting the Dam up closely and to enter the NHPC power plant, you got to take permission from CISF Adm 1 office in Jyotipuram. Google maps are useless once u cross Jyotipuram and head towards the Salal dam. So, keep asking CISF people, locals for the same. U shud keep a full day for visiting this place, if possible. The views of mountains, Chenab, Dam; all make it worth

I would love to work here in this Dam. But people working there seem to tired, they might be used to..

Salal Hydro power plant is the largest power project in Jammu and Kashmir by NHPC. A beautiful and green view nearby the dam make us to believe in Nature. Its a lovely place.

SalalSalal power station is run-of-the-river scheme with an installed capacity of 690 MW (Stage-I of 3 x115 MW & Stage-II 3 X 115 MW) to harnesses the Hydropower potential of river Chenab. It is located in Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir. The project comprises of a 118 m high & 630 m long rock fill dam and 113 m high & 486.75 m long concrete dam with 6 penstocks of 265 m length and 5.23 m diameter each. The surface power house with installed capacity of 690 MW houses 6 units of 115 MW capacity each designed to operate under the rated head of 94.5 m and designed to generate 3082 million units in a 90% dependable year with 95% machine availability. Units I, II & III of stage-I were commissioned in the month of November 1987 and Unit IV, V & VI of Stage-II in the month of June 1993, March 1994 & February 1995 respectively. The beneficiary states of this power station are Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand & Uttar Pradesh.

Its. 690 Mega watts gravity based power project stated back in 1987 with six units of 115 Mega Watts each. Caters electric needs of J&K, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal & Delhi also.
