It is believed that King Parikshit performed a yagna here for destruction of snakes to make himself safe. This place has special importance on the occasion of Nag Panchami because Pujan for Kaal Sarp Dosha is performed here on that day by specially trained Brahmins.

In Mahabharata period, King Parikshit, 3rd generation Successor of Pandavas, organized a yagna here to elliminate snakes.It is still believed that snakes dont like to live here.

Parikshit, who was listening to Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran, was bitten by Takshak Nag when his son King Janamejaya performed a snake sacrifice to avenge his fathers death..He serpent sacrifice was at the same venue later Astik sage had come and stopped the sacrifice. Since then this place came to be known as the mythical pilgrimage fair every year on the day of Nag Panchami at the place of sacrifice of King Janmejaya..Which was made the sacrificial king Janamejaya huge sacrifice school now he has become a big pond. Which is now famous as Surya Kund. It is said that it would require continued until sunset to sunrise, the suns rays. People keep his soil at home. It is believed that keeping its soil in the house does not attract snakes in that house.
