Holebagilu is located at a distance of 30 Km from Sagar and it is surrounded by the thick and dense forest. Holebagilu is a place of natural beauty and it is situated in Kolur Grama Panchayat Limits. The meaning of Holebagilu in Kannada language is River Gate. You need to take a diversion from B H Road towards Ikkeri Road to reach Holebagilu. The Sharavati backwaters of Linganamakki dam have submerged acres of land here. You need to cross the huge, long back water of Sharavathi using the barge or Launch (Ferry) to reach Sigandur via Holebagilu. It is exciting to travel by barge in the vast back water of River Sharavathi with so many islands created by it.

Better 2 see in google, too much crowded. Its around 20 Kilometres from sagar town and takes 45 minutes one way to reach holebagilu. But too much really too much crowded during holidays. Visited this place from Bangalore thinking of taking my car for a boat ride, on reaching parked the car nearly 1 kilometre away and had to walk in the red hot sun just to witness the arrival and departure of the huge boat with the government bus and fellow visitors traveling.

Very nice place. You need to take boat/Ferry from sigandur to reach the temple. Ferry carries as many ppl as possible. Cars and even buses are allowed in the ferry. They charge₹10 per head for a single trip.

This place is truly magnificent. One gets to drive through the core parts of the western ghats to reach the ferry terminal. The river crossing takes 20 mins and the river crossing itself is a joyful ride. For those who dont visit temples often, too will fall in love with this place.

Guys, this place deserves a 5 start but the maintenance here is worst. No proper washrooms or food joints and worst parking. Nothing is planned.Cars have to be stopped on either side of the road which makes vehicles movement patheticRain makes it worst with slush everywhere and cars stuck in slush is common, so reach early by 6 am if you are going to temple and park your car in a safe placeTimings - 6am to 5pm (Extends to 630 pm if people are more on peak occasions )Food - Small huts kinda hotels are available with decent food ( Lemon rice, pulav and puliogare with tea, coffee and milk)Washrooms - You cant even enter - Its so badly maintainedFerry - 10 rs per head - carry umbrellas as there is no roof and you get properly drenched if it rainsTravel - Takes about 20 min to cross in ferryTransportation of your vehicle to the other side - Cars and maxi vans are lined up for their turn into ferry ride - FCFS basis. Reach early to cross early :PStay - No place or hotel to stay for the night

Parking is extremely difficult during Holidays. Carrying the car is also available but difficult. Ferry traveling is the best.

The terminal has very basic facilities. While it seems they can run three ferries simultaneously only one was running when we visited in June 2018. The ferries are quite big and can accommodate a bus with 4-5 four wheelers. The service is purely on a first come first serve basis and if there is too much crowd they may not allow to board the vehicle. The fare is very nominal at 10/- per person. You need to stand on the ferry all along and it may be inconvenient if it is raining or for the elderly. One way trip may take between 15-25 min. Climbing and alighting is not a problem for anyone. Overall a decent experience however.

Travel across the Sharavathi on a barge that can carry mini bus, tempos and passengers. Scenic beauty around during the journey while the barge itself could be cleaner. Expect long queues to get into the barge at times during certain tourist seasons and temple festivities in Sigandur.

At Holey Bagilu (means river door) bus stop, Govt buses ply at regular intervals to & fro from Sagar. Here launch ferries people, trucks buses, bikes across the Sharavathi river. After the Linganamakki dam was built across river Sharavati, near Jog falls, the reservoir submerged huge areas of land & created many small islands.Sigandur was cut off from Sagar once the reservoir was built.2 barges provide connectivity across the Sharavati backwaters at Holebagilu (river door) launch ramp.Barge services are limited & stops at 5 pm every day.Barge ride provides scenic view of the backwaters & forest around it.This launch ride is managed by the Govt Inland waterways authorities.Locals & tourists are ferried across for a nominal fee, along with their vehicles.

Holebagilu as name says..its the entrance of the river sharavati where launch help us to cross the river. It connects sagara and sigandooru. Govt has provided launch to travel through river with vehicles and people in it..however there are limited launches but crowd is more during weekend, hence they have to restrict vehicles and carry only tourists in it.Its a great experience to travel in launch and to visit goddess chowdeshwari. But me being localite of sigandooru, we face lot of iasues becauses of time restrictions of launch.

The sliding door that comes before you travel to Sigandoor is a beautiful place. Ferry Travel is a memorable experience for every traveler. The beauty of the place makes us happy even in the rainy days. Situated on the banks of the river Sharavathi, this place is a good choice for spending time alone. The Government of Karnataka has provided ferry travel at very low cost to the Inland Transport Department. Not all the people who visit Siganduru are attracted to the journey on the river. This is a place for nature lovers. If you have a good camera, your journey will be even more memorable. Tourists can also avail direct bus services from Shimoga. The upland hills around the river are green and can make our minds feel a little dirty but have a silent experience. If you want to give the children a wonderful experience, take them to this place and do the nature walk.
