An incredible museum that truly amplifies Rochester and Kents place in history. There is no entry fee as well which makes it even more incredible. I really enjoyed my visit.

Nice place in the centre of Rochester Kent. Plenty to find out about the local area, lot of reference to Charles Dickins and the background to his books and it is all free. Old council room set up for three weddings, it look great for a none religious service location.

Loved it. This is a free museum and well maintained. Step back in history. We parked in the paid parking near by and walked down to the museum. Rochester cathedral is 3 min away. The street has some amazing antique type shops.

Wonderful museum in two parts, the first looks at the marine tradition, whilst the second part is more about Charles Dickens. My two children loved playing with the CCTV cameras, and learning all about Charles Dickens on the interactive screen. I loved how the darker elements of history were kept out of view of young children (Adults can look over the rails of displays for more sad info about our past). Highly recommend if in the area.

Wow. I can’t believe this place is free. Super awesome museum with top notch displays. I particularly like the prison hulk display. You enter a 3 level recreation of what it would’ve been like to be a prisoner. That was the highlight for me but the knights of Templar display was very well done also. Highly recommend this museum. We did it all in about an hour and a half.

The Guildhall is very interesting when I was a child me and my friends spent a lot of timing the museum. When it was in the Dickens center. The best bit was the doll houses. And we always remember a picture at the top of the stairs. The eyes seem to follow you .

The exhibits interested my older children but was really disappointed that it wasnt a family experience. Prams had to be left downstairs so had to carry my baby as well as change bag etc. as we were advised not to leave items on the pram. Wasnt expecting to have to leave a pram at what is presented as a venue for the whole family. Not accessible at all really. Led to a very short visit.

Amazing, so many people seem to visit Rochester and miss out on this gem. Located near the bridge end of the High Street it’s a free to enter gem.The really good thing about the place for families is that the museum is in two halves so you can leave early if the children are getting restless. The museum features lots of items of local history including exhibits that will interest children whilst the adults get to read in more depth, the Hulk (not the green man) exhibition is a good example of this.It is free to enter and they regularly provide activities to keep the children occupied during local school holidays for a small fee.

Br
Review №45

Great museum! To make it better you can visit free as many times as you want!! The only negative thing I can say is theres nowhere safe to leave a buggy. As you cannot take it around the museum and you have to leave it at the bottom of a public staircase where anyone could rummage through your child buggy. But other then that its a great place to take the kids and adults enjoy it just as much.

Your going to spend about an hour and half here with a nice collection of fantastic displays. Great locally found artefacts which makes museums better rather than stuff found from other places. A good place for school visits. Free to enter with some events periodically. I like it and have used it for research and photos hoots. Highlights are the prison hulk, tug boat driving and camera above Rochester
