The village got its name Rishiyur because it is said Saptha rishis prayed in this place. This temple is very old, but the Ekambraeshwarar temple was built in perhaps the 40s or 50s of last century. Also Kanchi peedathipathy - Swargeeya Sri Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswathy Swamigal learnt some aspects of vedas and religion under one Shri Rishiyur Santhanam Iyer (this was told to my father by Maha Periyaval long back). one IPS officer of T. nadu - Mr. R.N. Manikkam (may be one more also) hail from this village.
