It’s a great place, especially for a romantic walk at the Bosporus. Looks great at night from Asian side looking at the tower whilst across Bosporus you see all the sightseeing highlights. I don’t recommend the restaurant. Although it is a nice experience to be taken by boat and the interior is nice, the food is below average for a high price. Very sad, as its just focusing on tourists and do not serve the service and food experience, a romantic dinner deserves.

General informationThe objective called by the inhabitants of Istanbul (Turkey) the Virgins Tower is known by Europeans as the Leandros Tower. Used over time as a lighthouse, it was transformed into a cafe. This 1250-square-meter building is built on a rocky island 200 meters offshore in front of the Salacak district of Usküdar. From the place of the layerWherever it was, the Tower of the Virgin was the silent witness to events throughout history. For hundreds of years, he has also been the source of inspiration for countless poets and writers.Personal information: I wholeheartedly recommend.I can simply say that the atmosphere is very pleasant and quiet, with a unique view of the Salacak neighborhood. The location is very elegant and romantic, having at the same time a pleasant impact mainly on couples.

Its a beautiful place, with a great view of both the sides of the city. Also a very romantic place, apprently very popular amongst the Istanbul couples as a proposal spot! So be careful when you book a dinner here, might have a few connotations hehe.Jokes aside, its a decent experience. You get a great view of the city, almost like a semi private pass to wander around this historical tower, and food in a lovely atmosphere. It can be a bit odd if not couples, the place has a very romantic aura. One thing is that the earliest boat available for dinner there is 8.15pm, which is a bit late, so we had to wander around a little waiting for it. Food is a four course meal, but the wine menu is very expensive. Its like London prices for food, which itself is ok, nothing much to ride home about. But its a great experience overall.A note for vegetarians, as are many places in Istanbul, this place is not easy if you dont eat meat. They will substitute the mains for penne pasta, but the experience is great overall.

We went for our anniversary dinner. Its such a lovely place full of history and stories. The lighting is romantic and staff exceptionally helpful. The dinner is on the expensive side but 100% worth it. The three course meal was divine and the lovely Turkish bottle of wine a perfect pairing for our seafood (we opted for the exclusive menu and got the giant prawn as a first and the sea bass as a second). The prawn practically melted in my mouth and the sea bass was wonderful with its citrus sauce. Before dessert we climbed to the top of the tower for the panoramic views. It was romantic and lovely. The perfect place to spend an anniversary. I wish we had made our reservation sooner (rather than 2 days before) and maybe we could have had a window seat. But even so, it was perfect! So worth it! The Maidens Tower (Turkish: Kız Kulesi), also known as Leanders Tower (Tower of Leandros) since the medieval Byzantine period, is a tower on a small islet at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus strait 200 m (220 yd) from the coast of Üsküdar in Istanbul, Turkey.fter the naval victory at Cyzicus, the ancient Athenian general Alcibiades possibly built a custom station for ships coming from the Black Sea on a small rock in front of Chrysopolis (todays Üsküdar).[3] In 1110 Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus built a wooden tower protected by a stone wall.[3] From the tower an iron chain stretched across to another tower erected on the European shore, at the quarter of Mangana in Constantinople.[3] The islet was then connected to the Asiatic shore through a defense wall, whose underwater remains are still visible.[3] During the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453, the tower held a Byzantine garrison commanded by the Venetian Gabriele Trevisano.[3] Subsequently, the structure was used as a watchtower by the Ottoman Turks during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror.[3]The tower, often named Leanders Tower in reference to the legend of Hero and Leander (which took place in the Dardanelles strait, also known as the Hellespont in antiquity), was destroyed during the earthquake of 1509, and burned in 1721.[3] Since then it was used as a lighthouse, and the surrounding walls were repaired in 1731 and 1734, until in 1763 it was erected using stone.[3] From 1829 the tower was used as a quarantine station, and in 1832 was restored by Sultan Mahmud II.[3] Restored again by the harbour authority in 1945,[3] the most recent restoration began in 1998 for the James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough, and steel supports were added around the ancient tower as a precaution after the 17 August 1999 earthquake.[4]The interior of the tower has been converted into a café and restaurant, with views of the former Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman capital.[5] Private boats make trips to the tower several times a day.[6]

This is my favourite sight in Istanbul. It’s beauty is tremendous and watching it from the Asian side of Istanbul is so serene and peaceful. To get there you take a cute little boat from Uskudar which takes you onto the little island of the tower in the middle of the Bosphorous. From the tower you can get an amazing 360 degree view of Istanbul whilst enjoying nice cuisine at the restaurant in the tower. There is also an opportunity to dress up as an ottoman sultan and get to learn some history and the myths regarding this tower. The tower it self is a gorgeous piece of architecture! This is not to be missed in Istanbul!

The short boat trip to the island departs every approximately 30min. The island and tower has been well restored and is worth the Tl 20 fee for the visit. We did not dine at the restaurant but enjoyed the walk up the stairs to the viewing deck. Also the island’s history and fascinating legends displayed on the stairs landings made interesting reading. There is a small souvenir shop and a studio for photos in traditional or theme costumes. The flag flying on the tower flagpole is 5m2 and is replaced every 15 days !

Approximately 650 feet (200 meters) from the coast of Üsküdar, the Maiden’s Tower can be found on a small island at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus. Even though it’s not known exactly when the tower was built, the architectural style is synonymous with the era around 340 BCE. The landmark was previously known as Leandros and Damalis – named after the wife of Kharis, the king of Athens. During the Byzantine era, it was also known as “arcla,” which means “little castle.”After the Ottoman Army conquered Constantinople, the tower was pulled down and replaced with a wooden structure, which was then destroyed by a fire in 1719. Istanbul’s head architect Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Paşa rebuilt a stone version, and a glass kiosk and lead-covered dome were later added. Sultan Mahmut II’s signature was inscribed on marble by famous calligrapher Rakım Efendi and, by 1857, a lantern had been installed, although this was converted into an automatic lighting system by 1920.
