If I could give this place 6/5 stars I would. Incredible. Fish is fresh, very talented chefs who have mastered their trade. This is my sushi spot and this is the spot I will tell my friends to go to, and bring people from out of town to. This sushi place you should have gone to tonight. Cant wait to come back.

Japanese-owned restaurants are sooo difficult to find in NC, but this one’s my go-to place and it’s absolutely delicious. From the tempura, to the soba, to the ika geso, you’ll be missing out if you only try out their delicious sushi. Also the workers are so sweet and amazing too.**Been here more than 4x and each time has been great!

Wow. One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been around that area. Didn’t know this place has tatami room. So I could stretch my leg, sit down and enjoyed dinner with my family. Menu was all Japanese favorite Japanese, not those American favored fusion. Tempura was fried very nicely, and it was not greasy at all. Sushi fish was cut thick enough to enjoy the full taste of fish. Also, complementary green tea was great. I believe green tea in any Japanese restaurant should be free in order to enjoy the Japanese food at the fullest. And this restaurant give you tea free. Which is really plus. We all enjoyed so much and definitely will come back!!

THE WORST SUSHI AND SERVICE IN RALEIGH!After ordering $90 of sushi I got home and discovered there was no soy sauce included in my order, after that I noticed that the tuna tataki smelled old and fishy, it also had a brown color which could not possibly be fresh. I drove back to the restaurant and asked the manager Emily for a refund. She was unprofessional and hesitant to give me a refund which is even more conspicuous. She actually told me that I can get soy sauce at the store, and I could try some items I ordered that didn’t require soy sauce. I could not believe how much this place has gone down hill since it is “Under New Management”. I will never ever go back here. The food is so bad I doubt this restaurant will be in business much longer. The server Alysia was great and I hope she can find a good job when this place goes under. I went to this restaurant for 25 years but will definitely NEVER go back. 100% terrible. And the manager Emily was even worse than the food. Two thumbs down.

I was visiting a friend in the area this weekend, and she suggested we get sushi for dinner. I’d only ever had basic rolls from takeout-focused places, so walking into the place and immediately being immersed in a cozy, functional, authentic Japanese establishment like this one set the expectations for the rest of the night very high. And I wasn’t let down.We started with a split order of the gyoza (perfectly cooked with a very nice spicy oil on the side), the steamed edamame, and she had a house salad. Every last bite was gone in no time, and we washed it down with a very crisp and peach-sweet sparking sake, everything complimented one another very well. Our sushi rolls came out some time later, but we didn’t mind the wait. Conversation was good between us, and everywhere you look in the restaurant you’re able to find a point of conversation. We even had a short interaction with the new owner, who had a great spirit and was very kind. We each ordered two rolls (and I had one with eel, something I’d never had before!) and we finished our meal QUITE satisfied. We weren’t overly stuffed to the point of being sick, but we were well satisfied.Oh! And we both also had a beer each, which added more to the experience as they were both imports!I will 100% be coming back, and will be recommending this place to anyone heading to the Crabtree area. Of course, next time I’ll be choosing the special tatami seating to round off the whole immersive dining experience!

Absolutely unbelievable! Great atmosphere, fantastic food, great service, I can’t say enough about how good Waraji is. I really enjoyed their menu, it has a lot of traditional items you don’t see at typical sushi places. The only knock I could come up with is I like to see a whiteboard at a sushi restaurant with all the random off-menu items they have at the time but it isn’t enough to take away a star. Highly recommended.

Fantastic all around. We got sushi takeout and in general, with sushi takeout (and NC sushi) my standards are relatively low. When I arrived at the strip mall I lowered my expectations even more. However when I stepped through that establishments door it turned into a magical sushi paradise. I was greeted warmly by an efficient woman who took down my name, informed me they were running behind and would come out to my car. I ordered a large bottle of sake from an extensive list before returning to my car( did not consume in my car). When I received my food, I drove off to my little abode to see what surprises were in store for me. Once settling in at home, I opened the bags and a wonderful aroma welcomed me to explore further. The display of sushi was fine. As I opened up the container and took my first bite, I was not only pleasantly surprised but thoroughly pleased to be reminded of my trip to Japan sitting in a lovely restaurant. Fish had an excellent flavor and soup and salad were fresh and delicious. Couldnt have been happier! Would absolutely come back for takeout and plan to eat indoors there when its safer to eat indoors.

Over priced and below average quality. I have been to many sushi restaurants. My wife and I went here because I was in the area and it was rated highly on Google. I ordered a special roll, which came more than 20 minutes later (oh yeah, the server was very good but production was slow). The roll was dry and bland. My wife ordered a $27 broth and seafood dish that was light on seafood and had very bland broth.

You cant beat the food. Authentic Japanese like you cant get anywhere around. The service however is horrendous. Maybe theyre over worked, maybe theyre experiencing growing pains for all the best reasons, but these servers need to get schooled either way. I sure hope a phenomenal place like this isnt brought down by low skilled client facing staff that is either overworked or just plain wrong for an upscale restaurant.

I used to love this place and I would go every few weeks. I recently called to place a take out order and they told me it would be 2 hours. I said okay. She asked “so you still want to order?” I said I did and she put me on hold, never to return. I happened to be outside the restaurant so I went in and asked to place an order. I was told it would be an hour (quite the improvement!). I ordered and returned after an hour. My food was sitting on a chair, not being kept warm at all. Everything was cold and had clearly been sitting there for a while. If you don’t want to do take out orders, don’t do them.

It was ok. I feel that I did not get a good value for what I paid. I ordered the Hurricane Roll for about $16. It was ok but definately not worth that much. The two stars are for the food. I was told 1 hr wait for take out. Took 2 hours for food. Ordered at 7:10 food wasn’t ready until 9:10pm. Then someone else was given my order left and came back, only reason I took it was because I was starving. Then ticket said not paid I paid at restaurant, however I should be offered a refund for part of the order at least for the wait and the bad experience. I won’t be ordering food from here anytime soon. Worst part is they got my order wrong, I wanted the fried shrimp tempura def not what I got.

We came here as a big group, used to come here a lot because we loved it. So I actually invited all of them to give it a try as well. However, we were so disappointed with the food, we ordered Ika butter as appetizer, it tasted so salted and doesn’t even have the butter taste; we also ordered lots of sashimi, and other dishes as well, not to mention sashimi was not fresh, the scallops sashimi has sands inside…. Also, the service was not that good, waiter never come to check on us for anything, not even to just refill the water.. when we asked what we ordered for as each sashimi, he couldn’t name some of them. But over all, we all feel disappointed with the food, most of them were way too salted, and I feel so sorry to them since I was the one recommended.

Came here last night for a friends birthday dinner. I dont eat sushi, but almost everyone else at the table does. I ordered teriyaki chicken, which was good. It wasnt sweet or overly salty. However, the portion size was a bit small for the price, in my opinion. Those that ordered sushi were thrilled with their food and ate almost everything.Service was a bit slow, but not painfully so. Considering that all of their sushi is made by hand and to order, Ill forgive the delay in food delivery. We had a reservation, which I would highly recommend if you want to eat here on a Saturday night.

We frequent at Waraji a lot over the years. We dine at Waraji so much the waitstaff pretty much know us. The sushi disappoints, the food is always up to par.As soon as you are seated, you are given a warm towel to wipe your hands. Your order is put in through a tablet by the server, in which I think it is cool because at least you know your order is in!We sat in the traditional room where you are seated on the floor. The traditional room is available upon request. I like to get comfortable when I am about to stuff my face. It is custom to remove your shoes, and I lined up the shoes so it wont be messy so that server wont trip on the shoes.I start out with appetizers such as the Ika Butter (Squid), Beef Tataki, Edamame, Miso Soup, and Salad with Ginger Dressing. For the main meal, I devoured the Sashimi Deluxe that consists of 5 different types of fish. Im very picky with my sashimi and the sushi chef always let me substitute more of my favorite fishes. That is one of the main reasons why I always came back to this establishment. If I bring the whole family, I usually order various rolls and request to have it come out on the boat because I like to take pictures of my food and it just makes my food pictures looks more appealing. My absolute favorite rolls are The Shamoo Roll (its like a Spider Roll so big it looks like the crab was on steroids), The Waraji Roll, Mary Roll, Scary Jerry, the Hot Dragon Roll, Banzai Roll, and the Futo Maki.If you have room for desserts, you should try the Mochi Ice Cream that comes in different flavors for you to choose from: Strawberry, Green Tea, or Red Bean. I hope you will enjoy Waraji as much as I do because Waraji gives off that exciting atmosphere with the gentle decor. Each morsel piece of sushi/sashimi will tantalizes the palate of your taste buds at every bite. Yes, Waraji is that good! Did I mention the potion of sashimi is thick and the rolls are three times as big!I hope my review made you hungry, so give Waraji a try if you have not already. They open promptly at 5:30pm. The sooner you are there, the less of a wait time to be seated.

I would suggest them adding a note about those rolls or slicing to produce 8 edible pieces instead of 4 overly large rolls.

We have been to Waraji many times over many years, but go rarely now that we live in Cary. We dined there last night with our 8-year-old daughter, and I am pleased to say they are every bit as good as they always have been. You wont find BOGO sushi here, because they treat their sushi as art. Prices are higher here than many area places, but not unreasonable given the quality of the food. My daughter eats gyoza and pot stickers everywhere she goes, and she declared these gyoza last night as the best she had ever had. The seasonal spring rolls were similarly delightful, the photo does not do them justice. I could not photograph the tempura, because we dug into that immediately--light, crispy, & piping hot. I had a Mary roll, one of my perpetual faves, and some salmon nigiri. The salmon on the nigiri dwarfed the rice pad below it, a pleasant difference from many other places. My daughter had a salmon roll, which we requested without wasabi in it, because she cant handle that yet. My husband had one of the dinner sets and was pleased. Service was friendly and efficient, and my daughter was brought some crayons and a coloring sheet while we waited for our food. The dining area was immaculately clean, and there was a hum of conversation around us, but it wasnt loud, and we could easily hear each other. When next we are in the neighborhood, we will certainly return.

I have been a Waraji customer for over 10 years. I have been picking up take out from Waraji since the Pandemic hit and have been disappointed in the sushi but assumed that it was because we were doing take out. My husband and I went with our daughter last week to the actual restaurant and dined in. We were very disappointed. The sushi was pre-made, the rice was stale and crunchy as well as the fish was not fresh. I get that restaurants have had to make accommodations for the Pandemic but we cannot still be expected to pay the very expensive prices that Waraji has when the quality of the sushi has diminished. This is so saddening to me as this was the place to be for sushi. We will not be returning to Waraji and will have to try and find a new place to go for good quality sushi.
