Amazing collaborative space. Opal nugget machine aside, this place is legit. Wish it was around while I had been in school, but it is now and I definitely intend on utilizing it as much as I can. Super proud of my University for getting something like this together!

I purchased 2 Opal Nugget ice machines for my daughter and Son-in-law. One for their home and 1 for their beach house. I bought the one for the beach house on Ebay. It worked for 1 1/2 weeks. I sent it back for a refund. I ordered a second one for them on Amazon. It worked for about a month and it quit. My Son-in-law bought us 1 for Christmas. It worked for about 5 1/2 months and quit. So out of 4 Opal ice machines ,3 quit working and the other on is ok after about 1 1/2 years. I have contacted First Build by email. They wont respond. I am willing to pay for the repair if only I could hear from them. The reviews I have read are similar. Stay away from this product and this company!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clean. Well laid out maker-space. Tons of amazing tools and great people.Basically think of the most perfect garage layout you could have for projects and then multiply it by a thousand with tools and equipment you didnt even know existed. I honestly wish I could build everything here.

When your opal stops working at 13 months right outside the warranty don’t worry! They will offer you a coupon code for $100.00. Worst part is I referred about 10 people to buy them and they did. No offer to help repair it or look at it. Just $100.00 off if I want to buy a new one.

Regardless of Opal reviews: the best makerspace around. Dont know how to use a certain industrial tool? Just ask. Fantastic place, with fantastic folks. Always a helping hand to be found- just ask!

Great product! Opal ice maker does ice as advertised. Ordered mine on Amazon and received it 4 days later, awesome name too!

I purchased a Opal Ice Maker. Unfortunately it does not work. Not only does it not work, the return policy is an absolute irritation to get a refund much less a return label. I do not recommend this product, the ice bin is super small and you have to clean it every week. It also requires that you add water any time you want to make ice and it takes way to long to make ice according to the directions. I have been going back an forth with their customer service through email because there is no other way to solve the issue and they want me to pay to ship their defective product back to them. That is a terrible business practice. If the product did not work right out of the box, they should pay for the return and give me a refund. Their solution is to send me another unit, I DO NOT WANT another Opal Ice Maker because after taking it out of the box it turns out that between the maintenance it requires and the super tiny ice bin and needing to add water constantly, it is going to be a real pain to maintain it. Very unhappy!!!

I loved my Opal. I’ve had it for 6 months and it started to act up. Not making ice when there was water in it and not turning off unless I unplugged it. I cleaned it once a week like it said to do I used their water filters and also used filtered water every time. They told me I should have used Distilled water which then makes me think why do I need a water filter? And because it’s probably a water issue that it wouldn’t be covered by warranty. Well they didn’t even look at the machine so how would they know. Didn’t even ask for the number to to run any type of diagnostic if they could I would think you can since it’s hooks up to internet. Bad customer service! Thanks Chris for all your help I will try the vinegar soak. Save you $500 it’s only good for 6 or 7 months , oh yeah I’m the only person In The house who used the machine so it wasn’t over use.

I thought this was supposed to be a factory. Inside, theres a huge kitchen, and the people were pretty nice. They let me look around and even gave me coffee. Back in the so-called factory area, some nerds were creating things on computers and 3D printers, and a few robots were rolling around quietly. Wheres the conveyor belts and smokestacks? There was absolutely no smelting to watch that day. The facility also lacks giant ore crucibles and steaming vats of acid. Yet, appliances occasionally emerge onto a loading dock. It is a bit of a mystery.Coffee was okay, but FirstBuild: please try to be a little more metal.

See the blackened plastic? The Opal ice maker is so hot it blackened the plastic shell. I wont run it anymore, to afraid of a fire

Very interesting business model. Have you ever wanted to buy in on an idea so new that it doesnt exist yet? Have you ever wanted to reserve your right to own an appliance so exclusive, that youll never actually see one even as a paid customer? Are you so hopelessly addicted to pellet ice that youll allow anyone claiming to have an ice machine for sale in the future to run your credit card? If any of this sounds like you, First Build has exactly the pseudo scam you are looking for.But seriously where the F%*# is the Opal I paid for in December 2015?

Complete fraud. They took my money in June 2016 $450+They said shipment in August. No shipment. They have NEVER contacted me to indicate the delay, nor have they ever communicated other than process my credit card.I am filing CRIMINAL THEFT CHARGES in Tarrant County, Texas Court and US District Court against themPlease stay away from these scammers and criminals.Ronald C. Be careful buying from this company. Products are too new to have any reviews... and they do not accept returns... so youre stuck with a crappy product like the Opal ice maker. Zero customer service, and they dont tell you of their no return policy when you buy.
