If you want to relax on red sand Puri beach is a wonderful place. Its crowded but the sea waves the breeze will cool your mind and soul. There are chairs on the beach you can seat by paying 15-20 Rupees / hour. Also you can enjoy wonderful tea, sweets, jhal muri, pakodas on the beach. You can also have a ride on camel and horse. There is a huge market of handicrafts, cloths, electeonics, toys on the beach itself. Beach is mostly clean and in the morning volunteers of beach administration clean the beach. After covid-19 u have to wear mask in the beach area otherwise you got a fine of rs200. Located near Swargdwar / Marine drive road, this is quite a popular place to visit. Puri is approximately 60 km from Bhubaneswar Airport. Unless you travel during off-season, this place can be overcrowded & nearby hotels fully booked out. But apart from this, its an interesting place for a break and has a lot to offer. This place is a heaven for Sea food lovers. There are many Restaurants in Swargadwar locality that specialize in Fish-dishes such as Parse, Ilish, Pomfret and many more varieties of fresh Fish availed from the daily catch.Swargadwar is also a good place for buying traditional dress, Sarees, handicrafts (especially the ones made from Conch Shells) etc. In the evening, after sunset, the beach side offers a relaxing atmosphere.
I would not recommend staying near this area instead you can opt staying on Chakra Tirtha Road which is a bit less crowded. You can come here in the evening for shopping and then renting a chair on the beach and spending the evening.

Excellent place my first ever trip with me friends, enjoyed a lot. We planned in the month of January. I think it is the best time you can visit here. We reached at 6:30 morning from tatanagar after reach to hotel we get ready for the beach and thats here the best moments starts, we enjoyed for almost 3-4 hours in the salty water. After that we get back to our rooms and at evening time we came again to visit evening daily market near the beach. And that is also very good.

Beautiful, Vibrant, Full of Life!! One of the most popular beaches of Puri. The word Swargdwar is a combination of two words, Swargand Dwar, translating to ‘the door to heaven’. Usually overcrowded with lots of hawkers and stalls in the evening. The sunset view here is just perfect. It also has a local beach market and is lined up with lots of hotels on the Marine road just opposite to this beach.

If you like to be amidst crowd and prefer a beach that screams tourist attraction, then you will like Swargadwar beach.Otherwise, if you prefer a more quiet and calm location where you could get the whole beach to yourself , just start walking towards the lighthouse from here. The more you go, the less crowded it becomes. You can take an auto and go to the far end of the lighthouse where the beach is very clean and beautiful with almost nobody around.To my taste, this beach is overcrowded with tourists and shops and not that clean. You can probably go there in evening while taking a stroll through the market.Below are 2 pictures from 2 different location of the same puri beach.The crowded one is Swargadwar Beach and the other one is somewhere beyond the lighthouse which is just 1 km from Swargadwar beach.
