Founded in 1854, College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) is amongst the oldest engineering institutions in Asia. It is an autonomous engineering college affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University.  The college offers 9 undergraduate and 24 postgraduate programmes in various engineering trades. Presently, over 3200 students are enrolled in different courses in the college. The programmes offered in the college are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The various departments of COEP include the Department of Applied Science, Bhau Institute of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering & IT, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Department of Mathematics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science, Department of  Production Engineering and Industrial Management and Department of Physics.The fee structure for the first year of BTech programme at the College of Engineering, Pune is INR 90,350, while the fee structure for the MTech programme is INR 1,14, 350.

Just sharing my experience. We expect reputed institutions, mostly run by government funds, to at least provide efficient basic services to the taxpayers, I however found this one no different than the usual sarkari office flaunting worst overall staff behaviour with sheer incompetence every now and then. If youre here for an administrative work, beware of the rude and very unhelpful stubborn clerks, few Higher officials and professors are somewhat nice. Overall though getting any basic work done here is a very painful ordeal

Initially, It was started on December 16, 1854, to train public works department (PWD) officials and was housed in three bungalows as the ‘Poona Engineering and Mechanical School’ to train subordinate officers for carrying out public works like buildings, dams, canals, railways and bridges.[2][4][10][11][12] In July 1857, Henry Coke was given the charge of the institute.[13] Admission was open to all, irrespective of nationality or caste.[13] Good proficiency in English and basic knowledge of Mathematics were a prerequisite for getting admitted to the institute.[13] The process of admission required that the aspiring candidate apply to the nearest government English school, to whom the entrance examination papers were handed over.[13] The headmaster would take the examination on a date deemed convenient to him and submit the answer sheets to Henry Coke, the in-charge of the mechanical school.[13] After examining the papers, Coke would notify the headmaster of the school with the names of candidates who were deemed fit for admission. Scholarships of ₹6 were offered per month after a period of six months of training in the mechanical school for fifteen students. The courses offered included Mathematics, Drawing, Surveying and levelling, building and construction and setting out works on the ground.[13] The course would run for a period of two years.[13]Later on, in the year 1864, the school became the Poona Civil Engineering College. The number of courses were increased to include forestry and agricultural subjects, which led to its name being changed to Poona College of Science. The college was inaugurated at the new premises on August 5, 1865, at the hands of then governor Sir Bertel Ferre. It started a course in licensed and civil engineering (LCE) and trained masons and overseers. Later it secured affiliation to the Bombay university. The course was revised in 1886 and the minimum criteria required for admission was raised from Matriculation to the then Previous Examination.

COEP is a premier Institution of India. It is historic and has had consistent good ranking (actually rankings suffered ever since Dean Mr. Sahasrabuddhe moved out a few years back). Given the stature of this Institution, its website is pathetic! Some schools have better web sites than this!

Overall a good college but for me on a light note I dont like it because of its anonymous status & now its going to be a deemed university..so there would be no control of activities in college and students could suffer.I would like to say nothing is impossible if you think so..I recommend dont come here because you want tobut because you need to..so do study here otherwise you would be lost like I am...All the Best 👍

Im currently pursuing my second year in this college and commute by bus from hinjewadi. There are 4 gates in all out of which 3 have a good public transport connect including pmt and pmpml. It is a prestigious college built by British in 1854 and one of the best engineering college in Maharashtra after IIT Bombay. A very spacious campus which can make you get tired on the campus itself. Education here is the best with a lot of scope for many clubs and startups and cultural or say sports .... Everything here is grand... The mindspark techfest or Antarang being the annual sports championship for the branch cup comprising of many varieties of games and a really good competition !! Again impressions cant be left out where you get to showcase your talent and get to meet artists from the industry .... You have Slam punk, singing, dance and many more. The college has its hostel just 5/6 min walking distance from it facing the college ground.Overall it is an amazing experience to be a part of this college.

It is one of the oldest in India.....It is government autonomous college... Infrastructure is very old and give the feel of Hogwards in Harry potter series.... :-) Campus is nice, green and sheady but divided in many parts...traffic is the main problem while going to one part from other..... COEP was established in 1854, it is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia.It is located at the Confluence of mula and mutha river.Like most of the architecture from the early days of Raj, the college does not seem to have a definite architectural style.Subtle Victorian influenced arched windows and tiled canopies are seen in the older parts of the college but the main Tower of the administrative building however points to an indigenous inspiration.Gargoyles can be seen adorning the sharp edges of the building.The central library, Auditorium and other departments have a very contemporary design reminiscent of the construction.

It has been over 25 years I passed out from COEP. From then till today the college standard is very good. When I visited for the Silver Jubilee celebrations I saw students working on Robotics in a lab which is open 24x7 for them :-) and the work done by students was also impressive.I am proud to be a student of this best Engineering college in India.And yes the heritage building is a identity of Pune city.
