Kaithal Haryana is a historic city of Mahabharata. It is bordered by Karnal, Kurukshetra, Jind and Patiala districts of Punjab. According to the Puranas, it was founded by Yudhishthira. It is also considered to be the birthplace of Vanar Raj Hanuman. That is why earlier it was known as Kapisthal. Modern Kaithal was earlier part of Karnal district. But in 1973 AD it moved to Kurukshetra. Later, the Haryana government separated it from Kurukshetra and declared it an independent district on 1 November 1989. It is located on National Highway 65
