Overall mediocre. Their menu includes wine, which had a sticky note on it instructing us to ask to see the wine list. When we did, we were told they dont serve alcohol. Very disappointing since we were looking forward to a glass after a long day.Food was on the bland side - not terrible, just rather uninteresting and not much flavor.Service was polite and quick, however, at one point an employee came around spraying some kind of cleaner/disinfectant/air freshener solution into the air and on the carpet. This was about a foot away from our table while we were eating, and was quite unpleasant. Im all for good sanitation, but they need to work on their cleaning protocol.Pretty disappointing and would not return.
Our waitress, Azzy, was great. The prices had gone up from their menu, and that wasnt as clear as it could have been. Please, tape new prices to current menu, or ask patrons to get menu on their phones, not just pointing to door. That part wasnt clear. The food was wonderful and the service was pretty good; decent customer service to fix the bill, overall.
This restaurant is amazing! We got the Tikka Masala and Vindaloo that was bursting with flavor. Their veggie samosa is delicious with a crispy outside and packed tasty inside. We went home with leftovers for two meals. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Highly recommend dining in and enjoying the beautiful ambiance.
Wow just wow might be arguably the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted. This is a frequent spot for me I work right across the street. I love you you always treat me like family.
Great Indian restaurant. The owner is very kind and friendly and the food is tasty, made exactly the way youd expect it to hit the spot. Great ambience and decor as well. Would definitely recommend.
The owner lady is condescending and rude. The Nan bread is overpriced. This woman is disrespectful to me and my family. The food is not authentic either. Shame on you and your service
Really excellent food. Had curry and this onion bread that was super flavorful. Good service. The bathroom needs an update but still giving 5 for the food
Soooo good. Arrived late in the evening and needed food ASAP. They did not disappoint! Loved it. Highly recommend.
Ordered mild, they labeled mild, was so spicy I was sweating, disliked the food, and spent the night in the bathroom with intestinal cramps. So, eh. Not my fave. The flavors are good. Just dont go unless youre ok with extremely spicy stuff.
As someone who grew up Indian and knows what authentic Indian food is like, my experiences in Portland so far have been disappointing.Hello India changed that. I have recently been ordering from here and have been very pleased with the food. The Tandoori Chicken tasted great, you could taste the spices, the marinade and the chicken, the pickled onions were a great addition too. The chicken saag was wonderful, great taste of the combination of spinach and mustard greens (saag).I had their biryani as well. It was pretty good for a restaurant that does not specialize in the dish. They used a good quality spice mix and it was well done.Would recommend ordering Indian from here, especially North Indian curries.
This place is SO AWESOME! It’s hands down the best Indian restaurant in Portland. Their saag paneer is super yummy and their veggie samosas are the best in town. We always get something different that we’ve never tried before and it’s worth it! I love the surprises and new tastes that come with trying something new, and also love that it’s often the best version of whatever go-to or new dish we are trying.
Beware! I ordered online on 5/9/21 for $53.99 worth of food. When I picked up my order the waiter told me it was short one item ($15.00) and the money would be put back on the card. When I returned home I found the dessert was also missing. Another phone call and the same waiter told me that amount ($6.00) would also be returned. 15 days and three total phone calls and I have yet to see any refund. Apparently one has to record every contact with another person to verify your word or there is no proof one didnt eat the food and then lie.As to the quality of the food I cant speak as I just started my journey into Indian food. Luckily there are three more Indian places within 1/2 mile of this one.
Terrible service. The waiter was running around the restaurant when there was only a few tables sat. She was flustered from the get-go. Food took over 45 minutes to come out. They were out of almost all the drinks on their menu. Food was metiokre. Dont waste your time or money at this establishment, youll thank me later
Good customer service and quality food. Very nice interior.
This is the best restaurant for authentic Indian food in Portland. The flavors of their dishes are outstanding! The service is quick, dishes are consistent and the staff is so kind and polite. They take good care of you as a customer. I would eat here every day if I could!
As an Indian - take my word - this is by far the best Indian restaurant in around Portland area. The food was authentic, as authentic as the names of the menu they have. You can’t find any better food and we have tried a few around the area. The owner Meher and her brother were awesome to talk to as well.We had fun.
Great and unique food. Fresh and very authentic Indian food.
Food is so good. Definitely recommend.
No Concept of customer service at all. I called to replace $200.00 order for the office , the receptionist who answered the phone just hanged up on me. Very Rude
Good food! Nice servers 😁
Very tasty! The flavors are layered beautifully. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent. Food is super flavorful and spicy bb
Ordered via the caviar app. A driver showed up and waited for a bit, then left because they hadn’t started on my food yet. Then another driver showed up and waited another 25 minutes, at which point the order was pushed back half an hour, totaling an hour and a half to get food. Based on the other recent reviews, it sounds like this is common. Wouldn’t recommend ordering from here unless you’re not going to be hungry for a couple of hours.
I had best indian food I Portland best chef Mr vinod and Mr Dev excellent all item I tried i give no 1 for their food preparation
There are several Indian restaurants in SE Portland, but this is my favorite. The consistently excellent food brings my family back every time. I prefer the Lamb Malabar Masala, with its many subtle herbal flavors. My partner enjoys the lamb biryani, a favorite dish of his and prepared wonderfully by the cooks at Hello India. One of my favorite dishes is the Daal Kabila, which is a richly flavored mix of lentils.
The is the best indian restaurant. I ordered somosa, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala and naan. Chicken curry is out of the world, somosa is one of the best I have ever had. Im so full and satisfied that Im compelled to write this review.PS: guy taking our order was very friendly and knowledgeable.. you guys rock..
No flavor across three dishes. One veggie korma was topped with shredded mozzarella and tasted like water. Chicken biryani was stale rice no flavor. Lamb curry was ok but the spice hit fast at first and wasn’t mixed into the whole dish, like it was thrown together too fast.
Amazing flavors, and very sweet service:)Ppl should definitely give them a try!
We ordered food, got a confirmation, half an hour later they said they couldnt find the order. Then they found the order, told us it would be ready in another 20 minutes in another 25 minutes we came back and they had just started processing our order. We tried to cancel and they refused to refund or payment. I hate giving bad reviews to local businesses but these people do not know what theyre doing and will rip you off.
Excellent food, and stayed open 10 mins past their closing time so we could come pick up our online order (with no attitude whatsoever). Lots of vegan options, perfect spice level, and good (warm) naan.
Without question the most delicious Indian food in Portland. And if you order spicy, it will actually be spicy! In case it is important to you though, be warned that orders can take quite a bit longer than quoted, and youd be advised to make sure your whole order is in the bag, but the quality of the food is worth it!
My go-to indian spot. Delicious every time, try it out
Extremely disappointed, we’ve been going to Hello India for over two years now. We get takeout at least once a month, but our most recent experience tonight was an absolute disaster, and we won’t be going back. We called in our regular order, and ended up having to literally spell the dishes names, because the server was so unfamiliar with the menu and Indian cuisine in general. As you might guess they didn’t get it right and we ended up with different food than we had ordered. When we pointed this out they told us it would take another thirty minutes to get the order right, so we ended up with food we hadn’t ordered. To top it off they put the food in a bag with a large gash in the bottom so that it nearly spilled all over the floor when we got it home. Good food but not worth the hassle of incompetent staff, we’ll be finding somewhere new to dine.
They have the best Samosas in town! The chutney sauce is amazing as well. I’ve been ordering Indian food from here for a few years now! It’s always fresh and full of flavor. The basmati rice is always fresh and hot! Chicken tiki masala is my go to, but I am going to try new dishes as I continue to order from there. The staff is always so friendly.
Arrived at my favorite Thai Restaurant, to find out it closed and its now Hello India. Decided to stay and give it a try. I had never tried Indian food because I consider myself a picky eater. this place surpassed my expectations. from the food to the servers and Chefs. OMG everything is amazing. My favorite has to be the chicken Tika Masala. the nan bread delicious, the rice so sos so good. Just go try it. If youre like my husband and need pictures of the dishes Yelp the restaurant.
I knew from my first trip to Hello India that it would be my go-to Indian restaurant. Id tried plenty of places in town that had been decent but not up to my expectations, but the food at Hello India was excellent. The portions were generous, but I just wanted to keep eating. Ive eaten their many times since my first visit, and Ive been happy with my experience every time.
Delicious, friendly, and perfect for takeout! We discovered this gem just before lockdown, hungry and dusty after a hike. We worried we were to grubby but we were welcomed and treated as though we were dressed for a fancy date night. The food was hot and so yummy! It has been part of our regular lockdown takeout rotation. The garlic naan is perfect every time. We haven’t tried anything we didn’t like and the staff are so gracious.
Pretty expensive but the food is excellent
Ive gotten food from here a few times and its consistently excellent.
Delicious food, generous portions, and welcoming staff. We order from here regularly.
Fantastic authentic Indian cuisine. Delicious food and incredibly clean pickup. Helpful and friendly staff. Can’t wait to come back!
Hello india catered my wedding this weekend. They went above and beyond to insure we had a variety of food for our vegitarian and meat eating guests! Ali was absolutely wonderful and made sure our needs were met even though we placed the order with short notice. They even threw in some extra desserts for us! I highly recommend Hello India for any special event catering! Thank you! 10/10!
The space is well designed. Its not cramped but there are plenty of tables. The food is fantastic. You can taste all the different spices in each dish. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Staff is friendly and not intrusive.
Great food, easy ordering and pick up. Less expensive by phone rather than website.
Ordered from them online and they gave my order to someone else and refused to remake it.
Average food, ridiculous service. The server could not discern between Paneer Tikka Masala and Shahi Paneer Korma, so she simply suggested Navratan Korma because that was the most popular dish. The pakoras were good, then we were served naan and rice and asked if we wanted anything else? I said, yes, I would like the salad and the Paneer Tikka Masala we ordered. After a few visits from two different servers I was told they don’t have Paneer Tikka Masala, that I needed to show him on the menu, which I did much to his surprise! The “salad” came, which was 1/2 a sliced cucumber, some healthy carrot pieces and: 1/2 of a raw sliced white onion! I asked the man who brought it if he would eat 1/2 a raw onion and he replied he liked onion very much, so I handed him back the salad and told him to enjoy it.The Paneer Tikka Masala was decent, the Naan average, but I will give them credit for the best cilantro chutney I’ve had in decades.I am accustomed to receiving bizarre service at Indian restaurants. I’ve been to India a couple times and customer service isn’t really a big part of the culture there. That’s fine. I also will admit to being kind of a jerk when I got that salad, but I was just totally off kilter at that point. I wish them the best and hope they can sort out their customer service issues.
I agree with the other reviews. This is definitely the best indian food Ive had in Portland so far. Ordered lamb biryani, chicken 65 and saag paneer. All dishes were delicious, rich, and flavorful with authentic and adequate spices, and good portion sizes too, except the saag paneer could have used a few more pieces of paneers. I ordered via Grubhub and was delivered on time. Will definitely order again, or visit once restaurants are open.
Best tasting Indonesian food in the PDX. Area. Im eating curry chicken as Im writing this with a can of Coke. Very satisfying!
If you enjoy Indian cuisine go here. Possibly the best in town.
Tikka Masala was more tomato based in than others, but still very good. Veg korma was outstanding, and the mint chutney that came with the samosas was the best I’ve had outside of India. Naan was big and delicious.
Tonight was one of those off nights! You know mom wasn’t here. Waiting ....waiting..... there is a Bible you can read it’s on the bar ....while you wait...wait... wait. Foods good. Enter at your own risk. Sorry guys tonight failed. It’s two hours late and still ....waiting...waiting... smell burnt in the back... waiting ....waiting
A word of warning during Covid: Google and the sign on their door will say they’re open for lunch, and in fact you can successfully place and pay for a lunch order online, but Hello India appears to only be open for dinner right now.Don’t do what I did and order mid-day—to find their door locked and lights off. ~$40 later, I was sans lunch and had been hung up on when I called for a refund. Burned by that whole interaction, Im not stoked to try again myself, although their food is delicious.
One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to in Portland. Order food from here!
Poor service waited a long time.
One of the best Indian Restaurants in Portland
Pretty good tasting food and a clean and appropriately ornate and colorful interior. The service was polite, to the point and relaxed. We ordered a trio of Indian restaurant standards and each of the dishes was good. The seats are arranged in a way where you dont feel crowded even if the dining room is near capacity. While this wasnt the case when we were there, it would be helpful to know if youre going during peak hours.
The food here is pretty good but be very careful about ordering online. There is a scam website direct from GOOGLE that uses something called ORDER HERO. My card information was stolen and I was charged close to $70.00. When I arrived to pick up my food no order was placed. The staff basically said they know about it but cant do anything to change it. Others here have had the same issue.
Amazing restaurant!Good authentic food and more than anything else the service is so good. The owner is so kind that it really pays for your $Totally love it.
Everything was amazing except for the service, timing and facilities. Which is to say: the food was phenomenal! I would advise ordering food to-go or through one of many food delivery apps they use. We must have seen 10 orders fly out the door while waiting for drinks and our food. I do not want to diminish the quality of food at all. Seriously amazing, but do yourself a favor and dont dine-in.
Lots of Indian restaurant choices.I really enjoyed this one. Vegetarian choices abundant. I also liked their menu. It described specific things for each region of India. I will definitely revisit when in Portland.
The food at Hello India has stepped it up a notch lately, from being very good to being truly great. Delicious dishes of all kinds can be found here, we especially enjoy the Paneer Makani and the Saag. Try the Kashmiro Naan for a mildly sweet treat!
Best Indian food Ive ever had. The food was amazing, the portions were huge and the prices were great. The staff is wonderful and the food came out super quickly. Honestly one of the best dining experiences Ive had in Portland. Could not recommend Hello India more.
The food, service and ambiance at this restaurant is phenomenal. Hello India offers classic Indian dishes. I recommend the Butter Chicken! It is very flavorful and has the perfect amount of spice! The samosas and garlic naan are wonderful if you would like an appetizer with your dish. We always get the Mango Lassi which is creamy and delicious.
We had a party of 14. Excellent and friendly service. But why go? Because the food was excellent. Excellent Indian is characterized by distinct flavor differentiation of each entree and Hello India delivers. Everything is fresh and made to order. Having lived in London we have had many curry food experiences. This ranks with the best. Great addition to Portland food scene.
Great food and welcoming service I really enjoyed the music playing in the background modern India. The food came out hot and you can tell was made fresh I didnt the the white tablecloths were necessary since the had plastic cups and fake flowers. Other than that its good a little expensive but good. Will go back
Our go to for Indian food. Great food, great people, great prices.
I thought waiting 1 1/2 hours for take out when I was told 10-20 min was excessive, but another reviewer waited 3 hours for their order. Really? It was the second time I waited over an hour. The food is good but not great. There are three other Indian restaurants in the neighborhood that I prefer. Definitely won’t return.
We love Hello India. The Kormas and Saag Paneer are delicious. Friendly and fast service. Always a great experience.
Their food is pretty good, but it took them over 3 hours to get our order prepared last time through Caviar. Not only that, but they substituted one dish for another. They changed the price accordingly but did not give us any kind of discount or even apology for the incredibly long time it took to get the food order done. Not even sure what the substituted dish was, but it wasnt very good.
The food was authentic and very delicious. The owner was humble and you can see her heart and soul was poured into creating the perfect Indian restaurant, her first one in the U.S. I will definitely return again and again. 4 stars, not 5 becauseI requested NO dairy; yogurt, milk or butter in my food and was still given bread withbutter. They quickly apologized and replaced it. Besides that, I went home with a very full belly.
Food was exceptional. I recommend it on that alone. Alcohol on menu needs to be updated. They didnt have any of wines or beers my table ordered from the menu. Need more than one wait person on a Saturday night. That caused multiple walk outs. Spent a large portion of their time taking care of delivery food orders instead of their waiting patrons in the restaurant.
I really wanted to like this place. I was very excited to have an Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. We went on a Friday around 5:00 to hopefully get ahead of the dinner rush and were pleased to get a table right away. Something felt off pretty quickly, though. It looked like everyone else had ordered since nobody had menus, yet nothing was coming out of the kitchen. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order. I wanted to bail immediately but my ever optimistic partner thought we should stay. Some dinners did leave before their food showed up because they got tired of waiting. Im embarrassed to say that it was about an hour between the time we walked in and the time we got out food.If the food was amazing, Id say that it was worth the wait, but it was pretty typical fare. I hope they get it together and improve service.
This is my absolute favorite Indian food in Portland. The portions are very generous and the quality of the food is the best Ive ever had. They make all the dishes fresh from scratch and the cacophony of authentic flavors is just breathtaking. I highly recommend to everyone!
Food is always delicious and fresh. Owners are always nice and proud of their work. This is coming from a guy that doesnt even like Indian food that much besides this place.
The atmosphere was pretty nice, and unlike a lot of reviews, I didnt have to wait long for my food. I was a little shocked at the portions of the lunch menu. I was served five little cups of food on a platter. I thought to myself wheres the main dish? Turns out it was in one of the cups. Initially, I felt kind of ripped off, but it was enough to fill up on, though I still think $12 for a lunch special is a bit excessive. Oh well.
The host came out and told me that the food they prepared wasnt the food that the customers ordered. He didnt call the customer about it. So that caused delays. The host was unfriendly too.
Delicious authentic Indian food—the chicken curry was exactly as I had years ago which had been prepared by a chef from India. Good prices. Gracious service, will go back again and again!
This place is hella dark and stuffy. The man that seated us was pretty short and just rude in general. I waited forever for food. I honestly almost left because the ridiculous wait time.
The food is excellent! Everything is fresh and delicious! The staff is amazing. Will definitely be back.
Yet to experience food... but waiting waiting waiting for food to arrive :( hope food taste good when it arrives. Seems short of staff and service is damm slow!
Im an independent contractor for Amazon and had a food delivery from this place. While I was awaiting them to finish the order. I was asked several times if i wanted a drink. The staff here was so friendly and nice. The main woman i talked to was super helpful. I do believe she may have been the owner. This place has great service and staff that alone is worth my money. Thank you
Waited for 50, yes fifty minutes for an order to deliver and still did not get the order and service staff was really rude.
A little spendy and very well worth it! Dine in can be casual but tablecloths are in full effect. The music videos are a cultural experience in themselves. But the glorious art and service pale compared to the first taste. Complex flavors which shame your jaded palate await you. Dare you accept the adventure that awaits?! Yah I really liked it.
This place is amazing. I don’t have words to describe how good and authentic the food is. Also, every single member of the wait staff was incredibly friendly. We will be back!
I went last week , I was happy with the food it was delicious! But the service was horrible. I was over charged for my meal when the menu said $11.99 I was charged $15.00. And then I was charged $19.00 when I got home. Im not happy and will not go back there again. Small portions !!! For big $$$
We ordered food in the restaurant for take-out. As we were waiting, a yelling match broke out in the kitchen, which we could clearly hear from the dining room. It lasted a good five minutes. Nobody from the restaurant was in the dining room at the time, helping to manage the dining ambiance. Multiple people were involved in the yelling. Nobody acknowledged it when they finally did re-enter the dining roomOn top of all of that, the food was 3 or 4 out of 5 on a spicy hotness level, when we specified very mild because one of our diners had a medical condition requiring no spicy food. Regular Indian food eater, but this food was inedible for them because of that. They paid $25 for food they couldnt eat. Will never go here again.
Each dish uniquely flavored with layers of heat and savory spice. We ordered chicken, shrimp and lamb and each was tender and cooked just right. The service was warm and friendly and though the restaurant was full of diners and several take-out delivery vendors came and went the noise level was pretty decent. We will DEFINITELY return to learn more about the regional cuisines of India!
Very good Indian food, mostly Northern. Fine selection of vegetarian dishes as well as lamb, chicken, and fish. Not just the usual curry and tandoor standbys. Comprehensive bar. Excellent service.
Amazing food and service! Thoroughly enjoyed this experience overall. The staff is really proud of their business and treat it with thoughtfullness and care. 5 stars!
This place is the worst. Waited over 2 hours to get our food, we were told it would be 30 minutes... Seems like a lot of other people have had these issues. Food was average, but not even close to worth it for all the hassle. Staff were also super rude. I rarely write reviews but the experience here was so bad I had to.
