The Jal Mandir (Apapuri) , is the famous Jain temple dedicated to Lord Mahavira, the 24th Thirthankara and it marks the place of his cremation. The beautiful pond surrounding the temple is the major attraction, however its not maintained properly and is a bit dirty. The temple is said to be built by was built by King Nandivardhan. You can buy puffed rice before entering the temple premise and feed it to the ducks. Lotus is not visible in the pond.

A very very important pilgrimage for every Jain. Lord Mahavira got his nirvana at this place and it is believed that his powers and presence is made felt even today at night of Diwali. It is also a remarkable piece of architecture.

It is a major pilgrimage destination of Jains and the temple is dedicated toΒ Lord Mahavira, the 24thΒ TirthankaraΒ (religious preacher of Jainism), which marks the place of his cremation. Mahavira attainedΒ NirvanaΒ (salvation) in Pawapuri in 527 BC.The temple was originally built by King Nandivardhan, elder brother of Mahavira, within the pond which is filled with red coloured lotus flowers.Lord Mahavira attained Nirvana at Pavapuri. The place of his cremation became a pilgrimage centre when a large number of pilgrims took out a very large amount of soil from the site, which was considered as sacred as ashes of Lord Mahavira, and thus created a huge pit which got filled up with water and became a pond. To commemorate the place of hisΒ nirvanaΒ a temple was built within the tank.

Good but. Not good for tourist. Bihar is like Bihar, the place will be ashamed. There is a very large pond here, in the middle of which there is a Jain temple. The water of the pond is very dirty, the side of the pond is walking sidewalk but it is broken. Bardhaman Hospital is next to it. There are many duck ducks that come to the pond to say
