A beautiful sight especially at the dusk. Be there before the sunset and watch the lights come up when it turns dark. It’s an amazing sight to see. You may trek up further to reach the national museum as well. There are a few souvenirs shop and one art shop with live painting right opposite to the road. If you are lucky you may also see the unique landings by flights to the Paro airport.

This is one of famous Dzongkhag and one of largest Dzongkhag of Bhutan. It is famously known as old capital city of Bhutan. Later this capital was shifted to Bhutans Thimphu city due to location and other administration space. This Dzongkhag has administration and spritual purpose at one go to fulfill for this Himalayan state. The river side, lake, and residential monk all makes a nice combination to be in company at this placeβ€οΈπŸ˜‡

Ringpung Dzong is situated along the beautiful river that runs through the city. Paro is not the Capital city, but it is where the airport brings the tourist to begin their journey through this magnificent country. Rinpung is an excellent start that shows how the government is tied to its Buddhist heritage. All Dzongs are divided in two sides. One side is where the government work is done, courts, appeals, etc. The other side is usually a Buddhist Temple. The view of this Dzong for a first time traveler is magnificent, as are most sites in Bhutan. Enjoy your journey.

Another name is Paro Dzong. In the 15th century local people offered the crag of Hungrel at Paro to Lama Drung Drung Gyal, a descendant of Pajo Drugom Zhigpo. Drung Drung Gyal built a small temple there and later a five storied Dzong or fortress which was known as Hungrel Dzong. In the 17th century, his descendants, the lords of Hungrel, offered this fortress to the Drukpa hierarch, Ngawang Namgyal, the Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in recognition of his religious and temporal authority. In 1644 the Zhabdrung dismantled the existing dzong and laid the foundations of a new dzong. In 1646 the dzong was reconsecrated and established as the administrative and monastic centre of the western region and it became known as Rinpung Dzong.

Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) - Finest Example of Bhutanese ArchitectureRinpung Dzong, also known as Paro Dzong, is a traditional Bhutan architecture in style with a complex of courtyards, temples, offices and accommodating area surrounded by towering walls. The dzong’s full name - Rinche Pung Dzong is literally translated as Fortress on a Heap of Jewels. It gets such a name because of its large collection of treasured buildings. All the buildings are equipped with huge windows with elaborate wooden carvings of Bhutan traditional motifs. As the finest example of Bhutanese architecture, Rinpung Dzong is always listed in the top attractions in Bhutan. No matter you are in which corner of Paro Valley, you can see Rinpung Dzong easily.During 17th and 18th century, Paro Dzong was an important bastion for the Kingdom of Bhutan against invasion from the north. At present, it houses the Monastic Body and government offices, and serves as the religious, military, administrative, and social centers of their district. Rinpung Dzong is also the site of colorful Tsechu when a series of dances are performed by masked dancer in honor of Guru Rinpoche.
