The food here is amazing for such a good price.the pork pancake is absolutely amazing ! the outside bread is crispy and the inside had so much marinated meat !the soup dumplings were excellent ! the only downside is that it is a little small, but it is packed with flavor. it is not too greasy and the meat is juicy. it also had a ginger flavor in the soup, which complemented the dumpling so well.

I had the spicy big tray chicken. Served with noodles, which I didnt order and I guess it was a miscommunication with the waitress, but it wasnt much extra so Im not complaining. It was massive, enough to feed two medium appetites. And importantly I thought its amazing - - ridiculously flavorful with the cumin, mala, and (more subtly) star anise. Here I am pretending I know what went into it; Im probably missing other key flavors.Theres no decor to speak of, which I think made me like the place more.

Went back to Spicy Village this week for the first time in at least 3 years. I felt like it was one of the best-kept secrets in the city, but I wasnt sure if I was just romanticizing the past. Glad to say I wasnt, as the food was every bit as good as I had remembered. The soup dumplings were full of flavor and the spicy dry noodle with beef was perfect. As others have pointed out, the seating capacity and decor leave a lot to be desired, but I come here to stuff my face, not look at the walls. If that helps them keep the prices low and food quality high then Im all for it.

Ive been coming since it was called He Nan Flavor and Spicy village never disappoints for hand pulled noodles and big tray chicken in Manhattan. If youre eating with people get the big plate chicken and add noodles, but the dry and soup noodles are great if youre dining solo. Only gripe is that the big tray chicken has gotten less spicy/flavorful over the years as the clientele has... changed.Dont forget the pork pancake, its definitely one of the best in the city.

Love this place! Truly a hidden gem in Chinatown. This place gets packed pretty quickly because there are a lot of tourists. It has also gained a lot of popularity because it was featured in the 2020 Michelin Guide. When you come here you have to get the big tray chicken with the hand pulled noodles. Thats what theyre famous for. Its good enough for two people, but wish there was a little bit more noodles. We also ordered the triple salad that had cucumber salad, seaweed salad, and tofu salad. Its a pretty nice refreshing side to cut the spiciness at times. We also got the pancake with beef and the spicy scallion sauce with pork dumplings. To be honest, we enjoyed the dumplings the most! The sauce was really tasty and not too spicy. I wish there was more meat in the pancake but overall a good place to go in Chinatown!

It’s a China town staple. A narrow hole in the wall with some of the best food I’ve had in the area. The pork pancakes are killer and a great price. The lamb noodles are delicious and the noodles themselves are made by hand. And of course try out the big tray chicken

I have to hit up Spicy Village every time I’m in New York. Since I started going a few years ago, I think I’ve been back at least twice a year (I live in Maryland and have no relatives in NY btw). Their big tray chicken is the best (better than the one in New World Mall in my opinion) with hand ripped noodles. Their pork burger also reminds me of my childhood in China — great porky and fat flavor and I don’t even eat pork 99.9% of the time because I don’t like the taste. This is just too nostalgic I guess. Then a few years back Eater did a video on them and it became impossible to get a table on a weekend night. I always try to go during the week or at least a lunchtime. They have very limited seating. They had BYOB and have a per head minimum which is low (maybe $14 a head or so?), but their food is so cheap we had to order a ton of stuff to hit that. But hey, more leftovers for me. There’s a liquor store (or beer and wine?) right around the corner which is very convenient.

This place is small (in a quaint cozy kind of way)but the service and food are out of this world!!!! Very friendly helpful and attentive staff members. Every staff member said hi and greeted us as we entered. Food order was taken when we placed our names on the waiting list. This allowed us to enjoy our meal as soon as our table was available. The food is like nothing I’ve ever had. Amazing flavors that continue to develop as you eat it. Recommend trying everything they offer you will not be disappointed. You will leave full and satisfied. 😀🍜😀

My friend and I decided to go here because of all of the great reviews. There was also a pretty long wait for seats so we expected great things. However, it did not meet our expectations. One of the very best Chinese restaurants in NYC--its a local favorite! The foods ideas are simple, but the complexity and execution of the dishes make it amazing. Try the pork bun, spicy chicken Hui Mei (in dry pulled noodle section), and if youre with a group of 4, definitely get the Big Tray chicken--you can get it either rice or noodle; DONT BE AN AMATEUR and get it with rice, order the noodles, you wont regret it. Im not particularly sold on the soup dumplings :/ but the rest is tremendous! Best thing is its BYOD!!! 🤤

DELICIOUS!!! We got the chicken and added hand-pulled noodles which were amazing. The red oil dumplings were seasoned perfectly though the dumpling skin is on the thicker side. We wanted authentic Chinese, and we definitely got that. Hole in the wall in Chinatown, make sure you make a reservation and show up on time. The food was perhaps a bit too authentic for our not all that adventurous family. The hot and sour soup tasted a bit soapy. The dumplings and sesame chicken were great. The best thing was the price. Nowhere in New York could we feed a family of six for well under $100 but there. Its bring your own alcohol, so make sure to remember to stop at the corner store for some beer or wine if you want that with your meal. It was also nice that we didnt ever get rushed, even though they could have seated another party right away. The service was very good.

If you are looking for a spicy Asian meal to salivate your taste buds, look no further. This cozy restaurant sits about 22 customers and was packed when we arrived. The menu is typical of northern Chinese cuisine. We had the Spicy Big Tray Chicken with a side of hand pulled noodles, Pork and Vegetable Dumplings and an order of the Soup Dumplings. There was plenty of chicken and the soup base had tons of peppercorn making for a spicy combination. We werent impressed with the dumplings though. The soup dumplings had no soup inside and seems to be commercially made. We had some beverages to keep the spice levels down from the big tray.

Spicy Village, unlike its name, is not very spicy. They are well known for their chicken dish in the last picture which you can add rice or noodles. However like a typical Chinese place, it stressed me out too much because its tiny so they always end up rushing you out the door. Its BYOB but its a $12 minimum.... Which means its a lot of food. Decent food but not a place you linger. Eat and get out or they kick you out.

Quick service and very affordable food - like, are we still in Manhattan?? affordable. They use mostly plastic / disposable plates and utensils which does not jive with my low carbon footprint diet style (flavor of the season) but I also ate beef here so I’m being a little bit of a hypocrite.Went on a Saturday early (before 6pm) and this small place (really small, maybe 8 tables total?) filled up fast.I enjoyed the food. Ordered two dishes (#26 Spicy Beef Brisket with hand pulled noodles and A3 Sesame Chicken with rice bc somebody who was not me wanted sesame chicken) and a plate of dumplings (7A Spicy scallion sauce pork dumplings) which was way more food than we shld have had or eaten. Place seemed BYOB but we were fine with water. Total with 20% tip was ~$30.It’s more of a homey place (hole in a wall) than a place to enjoy the finest Chinese cuisine. I think this is more of Sichuan cuisine (thus the name Spicy Village). I love spicy food and take heat well so it was not spicy for me, but for those unaccustomed to spicy food, be aware! I would go back for their famous Spicy Big Tray Chicken!Serving size is LARGE so order accordingly. Also cash only.

Quite the disappointing meal. We fell pray for the Big Tray dish that appears delicious in photos and promoted heavily in NYC Chinatown articles. In reality, the chicken was extremely dry (tasted like a week-long leftover dipped in mildly spicy soup). This dish was also $15.95 without the thick noodles, which were an additional $2. We expected a lot more for a meal at a price tag of almost $20, especially at a dingy restaurant like this one. If you are looking for flavourful and thick Chinese noodles, you are better off at Xi’an Famous Foods.

You get nearly thrown out before you finished because the Village is so tiny that there is no space for other guests. The dumplings where great, but the sour soup tastes horrible. After passing by this low-key hidden gem behind the park dozens of times, today I finally walked in and was happily surprised by its amazing broth and noodle. I ordered the lamp noodle soup but with beef briskets. Huuuuge portion. More importantly, it is the best lamp soup, noodle soup, soup of any kind Ive ever had in NYC! The thick bone broth is so full of fresh meat flavor yet not too salty, just the right amount of salt, and the wide noodles are soaked with this heavenly broth. This is a nice family restaurant and the waitress, who’s also the chef-co-owner, told me that she patiently stewed the broth for tens of hours to get such perfect mix of flavor and texture. All I can say is the broth is so good that I wanna dance. The only thing I did not like so much was the beef - I wouldve enjoyed more tender beef chunks. It stuck into my teeth. But the soup, noodle and portion are so AAAAAmazing that I still give it a 5-star!
