I’m usually not that easy to give 5 stars, specially to a restaurant. But this place deserves it.When I first got inside and saw their prices, I immediately said that this place is way overpriced. But I still tried it so I ordered chicken madras… and boy it was really damn good. I don’t how they did it, but it was good. The servings was big too so since I was by myself, I couldn’t finish the whole thing.I’m gonna be back here to try their other good before I go back home to Toronto.

Host India is one of our favorite Indian restaurants in the city. I find the food very authentic and just the perfect amount of spice. I’ve tried numerous items on the menu and everything tastes delicious. My favorites are the butter chicken and the biryani. We mainly have take out and the portions are large and well presented.

First time eating here and to be honest the food was incredible. The spices were true to the Indian cuisine.The staff was very attentive and always there with a pitcher of water to fill our glasses.I would recommend Host India to anyone that wants a true authentic flavor and amazing experience.I will be going back for sure.

The food here is amazing. This would be 5 stars except that on Monday when I picked up the order 2 staff members who were preparing food were wearing their masks below their chin. Sadly we wont be eating here again until there is assurance that the restaurant is abiding by health and safety standards to keep our community and family safe.

Drove by here many times and decided it was time to try it. Its a lot bigger on the inside than it appears from outside. The atmosphere is nice. The food is the star here though, wow tasty food with good size portions.

Food is awesome but poor customer service.You cant ask customer to put dishes over here and there. This is happened with me multiple time. They need to improve customer service significantly.

As always food taste great, its not the first neither the last time we come but the chicken biryani & lamb curry taste to dy for - amazing not to spicy & well seasoned. The same goes with both dessert & bread Robuz - Roti..bon appétit!

Food is great, and youll be leaving fully stuffed. The garlic Naan is and will always be my favorite side from here. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, they made us feel at home. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian food.

Ive always loved Host India!. Even in a pandemic, they still made the dining experience lovely. The only minor comment I have is about putting table cloths again. The tables without the table cloths are sticky even though theyre cleaned (because of the abrasiveness of the cleaning material I assume). The food is as delicious as ever and the service is as lovely as ever. Tonight I took two friends, who have never been there and have not tried Indian food before, and they both loved it.

Just ordered from the new Riverside South location - we were the very first take out customers. The food was fantastic. Really excited for Host India to be in our neighbourhood. They have an extensive gluten free menu and were really supportive around food allergies. Looking forward to this being a regular addition to our take out nights.

I have been going to Host India for years. Best Indian food I’ve had in my life. Garlic naan, spicy butter chicken and onion bhaji are my favourite. A must try!

This was my first time ordering from the Host India South location and it was delicious. The chicken in the butter chicken was fresh and the biryani was so good and the portion sizes are generous. I have ordered from this place so so so many times since 2016 its unbelievable. Over the years Ive seen them increase the price of the same dishes by 25% ($4-5/dish) that was ok, I kept giving them my business. The quantity of food that you get is more than most other Indian restaurants, and most of the time the taste is consistent to what I would expect it to taste like.I only had issues once or twice, like a time where I wrote spicy and the food was red and had so much red chili inside that I would have ended up in the hospital if I ate it (not based on spice level, but instead being literally inedible). Still ordered it again after that regardless.99% of the time my order is virtually the same, and I would always make the same request to omit something included in the dish, however until recently the last few times when Ive ordered from this restaurant via Uber Eats, they added an additional $5 charge to (get this- not include a part of the dish). Absolutely shocking and unacceptable considering Ive spent well over $2000 dollars on food from this restaurant and they attempt to pull a fast one on me over $5 thinking I wouldnt notice. Since then I have started giving my business elsewhere due to this reason as well as degrading quality of the food itself. Pretty disappointing but it was good while it lasted.

I often eat at this Indian restaurant near my apartment. I’ve gotten to know the owners and other staff members, and they remember my name when I walk through the door. Their food is exceptionally fresh, and they have many seasonal specials.

The service is a little bit lost but the food makes it totally worth it ! I went there with some friends and everybody liked their plates. Its the kind of place that nobody knows but you will get your bang for bucks with the food. I even had leftovers for lunch.

I ordered three dishes via uber eats and I was delighted with what I got.I ordered the butter chicken, mushroom mattar, and shahi paneer. Each one came with a naan.The first thing I noticed was that the serving sizes were huge - for both the curries and the naan.Opening the dishes, I noticed that the paneer and chicken pieces were huge - a good sign. Everything I got was perfectly cooked.The curries were made with quality ingredients - and they were delicious.The naan was handmade and marvellous.I think that the prices were very reasonable given the quality and quantity of food I got.All in all, I am very happy with what I got and look forward to visiting the restaurant in person.

I could see people liking it, but I am not one of them. The butter chicken tasted like it was out of a chef boyardee can, dal and spinach paneer were ok, samosa dipping sauce was red sauce, and garlic nan didnt taste of garlic.

Very flavorful. A bit pricey considering you have to get rice and naan bread as extra if you dont take one of their combo that in my case,I didnt like everything.

Upset with this place. They didn’t have tap, so I had to drive 15 mins back to my house. When I finally picked up the order it had been 40 mins that the food was sitting there and in all that time they still forgot to put my rice with the order.😂 I tried to call and explain but they were closed and couldn’t do anything about it. this place is a joke and the food is not worth the price.I paid 28$ for some chicken and one piece of nan bread. How does that make any sense

The best Indian food in Ottawa! Shahi Paneer is probably the best I’ve ever had. The green cilantro sauce is almost drinkable it’s so good. Everything tasted just as I remember. We used to go to the one in the east end years ago so we were super excited when the new location opened up and is available for delivery to Barrhaven. 10/10 will order again!

Sauces are AMAZING. Chicken is of excellent quality: all white meat, nothing fatty or stringy...perfectly well-cooked cubes every time. Great naan. Service is always great when we pick up. I drive half an hour there and half an hour back at least once a month since its SO worth it!

Pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the flavours. Spicy like it should. Plus, very nice lunch special: 4 different and generous dishes plus rice, naan and dessert for 16.99. Only managed to eat half and took the rest home.

We were recommended to this place by our friend who loved it. Unfortunately, our experience was awful, both because of the food but especially because of the cruel customer service. There are far better restaurants to support during the COVID19 crisis, who are more deserving of our hard-earned dollars.We hoped to support a local business with what little money we tend to have disposable. While we’ve had great experiences with other local establishments in Ottawa, like Pizza Nerds and Greek and Wheels and Shinka Sushi among many others, our experience at Host India was dreadful.There was a miscommunication in the kitchen and what was supposed to be an item substitution to accommodate an allergy was quickly made into a meal substitution for a cheaper dish—even after the restaurant and I confirmed over the phone. I hoped to quickly and amicably resolve the issue directly with the restaurant. The barman who picked up the phone said that it was my problem, denied my account of our conversation, and said the most they could do was refund the difference between the dish I wanted and the random dish they gave us. He then said I would have to pick up the money in cash in person. When I asked for alternatives that were contactless he dismissed me.I decided to just eat the cost and enjoy the rest of the dinner until I discovered that the condiments for which I explicitly asked, and which in Indian cuisine are essential to particular dishes, were missing and that the samosas were besides undercooked and gummy. I called and asked to speak to the owner/manager to explain the situation and receive recompense for the wrong dish that we weren’t going to eat, having thought that we were being taken for granted.The owner/manager immediately escalated and yelled at me, said that I was just being greedy for money and he didn’t need my business. To affirm, we were hoping to receive some sort of correction because we didn’t receive the correct order after spending about $100.I rarely leave reviews online, and when I do it’s only to praise local businesses to ensure they do well. But this is by far not only the worst restaurant experience I’ve had but the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had.It was especially cruel to have a rude and presumptuous restaurant owner scream at us that we just wanted money when my wife and I struggle to support our community as much as we can. This was a heartbreaking experience. Never again.Also, frankly, it’s overpriced. I’d personally recommend to go elsewhere for your Indian food. Save your business for someone who cares and needs it.

Ive always hated spicy food especially Indian food however when I was pregnant with my little one I developed a taste for it and I tried this place. I fell in love with it.Last time you went we got the whole Play store ourselves.They were busy with orders for from skipped the dishes and all the other delivery services.But for dine in we were the only ones, so we got the Royal treatment.The service was a little slow they were very busy with the delivery part.But the food was excellent.If youve never tried Indian food before try them theyre really good and its not that spicy. Im a person that still doesnt like per spicy. and at Host India there are so many options and you can even ask if theres a specific meal that you want you can ask them to make it a little less or to add cream.Have a good meal you guys

Host India - West, recently opened in Riverside South and my wife an I were eager to try their fare. We ordered several dishes and our bill was $142.00. We were extremely disappointed as we had expectation based on our experiences with several notable Indian restaurants in Ottawa. The two vegetarian dishes we ordered, aloo gobi and saag were absolutely tasteless and lacked any of the traditional indian spices and packed zero heat even after requesting the saag be very hot. The two meat dishes we ordered, rogan josh and chicken madras were much better. The portions for of each of these dishes was respectable and the sauces complimented each meat dish nicely. The naan was also good.

Solid and reliable is what I would describe Host India as. Doesnt particularly stand out among your standard Indian restaurants but at a decent price and good quantity of food, you get your fix. Mattar paneer and their beef and lamb dishes are consistently good.

Amazing food. Ordered it two months ago, have ordered it at least 5 times since. The butter chicken is a perfect portion for two with rice and the naan bread is great. They deliver too so we prefer to order locally rather than through Uber eats. Will order again!

Authentic Indian food. Tried their Paneer Makhanwala and naan. Always been a fan of this lovely place. Highly recommend their Paneer Butter Masala( Paneer Makhanwala) along with their naan for vegetarians

This review is purely on my experience with the buffet.Tandoori chicken was only the leg pieces. It was ok. Had the butter chicken, beef curry, shrimp stew (forget the actual name of it)... lamb... the pakoras & samosas were great.Soup was sweet. It wasn’t the best.Out of all the items I ate mostly the tandoori chicken & lamb with the pakoras & a bit of rice.It was $30 for the buffet & ive had way way better buffets for half the cost with way better quality.Maybe the a la carte single meals are better.

Ordered the butter chicken and it tasted very bad to me, the sauce was very dark and the chicken was dry, first time but my last sorry

I went today to get some food. I right away was greeted by being told that I needed to hurry and make a decision as they were closing for lunch. It was 1:00 pm. Then i ordered for $85 and when I got home I saw that I had 3 shrimps in my Shrimp Saag. 3 shrimps for $23.NEVER AGAIN!

Nice buffet with a varied array of options. Food was pretty darn good and my dirty plate was gone when I returned with more food. Deceptively large inside. Can accommodate groups. Not hideously expensive either. Could use an ambience upgrade I think.

Heard about this place and was looking forward to have something like authentic Indian food. Walked in about 1pm, was glad to find out they have an all you can eat buffet for 16.99$ lunch special. Started to load a take away plate and was intercepted saying the salad bar was not part of the buffet and the price was actually 24.99$. At that point I walked out the door and never went back.

Overpriced less quality

So far, better Indian buffet restaurant in Ottawa on any day (considering I have eaten buffets at most other places multiple times). This review is only for the buffet (haven’t tried a la carte and I won’t in any Indian restaurant in Ottawa because of unpredictable food). Very flavourful and near-authentic dishes in the buffet. You get a typical Punjabi cuisine taste. Service is good and helpful. Nice place and very accommodating.

I agree with Jasparette French Training the owner and staff are rude and unpleasant and maybe the owner is right Jasparette telling you he DOES NOT NEED MONEY OR BUSINESS, BECAUSE HE HAS ENOUGH giving him a voice and the right to yell at customers and humiliate them as he did to you and others. I will not say our ordeal and difficult time encountered with this establishment. I love Indian food but to pay a large amount of money when you are with friends and family and be spoken too rudely. I personally do not care much on how much we pay I also look for pleasant service and good hospitality. I would never recommend Host India and when I am asked by friends and family where there is good Indian Restaurant. I send them to a great place located on Carling Avenue. Sorry to hear you too had a bad experience with India Host and I am sure it will continue, unless customers start going to the nice Indian Restaurant on Carling.

Fantastic food every time and we’ve ordered many times. Butter chicken is an absolute must.

This place has the best indian food. The owners are so nice and they go above and beyond to make sure we have good food and memories. We have shared birthday parties, Mother, Fathers Day and special occasions with Host India catering to us.

As always that moment right before the first bite conveys a great moment of anticipation as Host Indian serves incredible food made with premium ingredients.

We went on Valentines day and they accommodated more people than they should have. We had to wait more than half an hour for the bill and then finally got up to pay the bill ourselves. Our night was ruined. The food was terrible. I am Indian. THAT was not indian food, EVERY curry tasted the same. If they knew that valentines day was going to be busy, they should have had more staff. It was a terrible terrible experience and I will never go there again.

I always drove past this place, but I never thought to stop in. I ordered takeout, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The price and the quantity are amazing. I will continue to order from here.
