Amazing!! 3 weeks back, I have been to Benchmark Tea Factory, near Dolphin Nose, Coonor.. First time, I could witness how do they really make the tea powder!! I used to think for green tea, white tea, blue tea, masala tea etc etc they should be using different different pattern of leaves that would be grown in tea gardens.. but I was totally wrong.. Witness by yourself, by visiting any of the tea factory.. the smell as soon as you enter the factory !!! Is just amazing..Really happy to see such factories.. buy any products outside these factories - these are really really fresh and really tasty.. the chocolates were just fantastic..
A tea and chocolate factory converted into a tourist attraction! Such a great spot. The place is made just for tourists. Its made keeping tourism in mind. You have an entrance fee.Post which, a path is made which takes you along the factory. First the chocolate factory followed by a museum of info. Tea factory then comes in where you can actually see the different kinds of tea being prepared. This place had pretty good crowd when we went in.There will be sample tea to try.Post this the path takes you through their store, where you can buy tea packets and then through chocolate store where lots and lots of chocolates are up for sale.We did shop a lot.Do visit if you are in Ooty.
Very professional staff. Care to explain processes and also lend help if any needed. Friendly and caring for physically challenged people as well. A good place to visit enroute Ooty.
It is a miniature factory of tea and chocolate. For entrance into the chocolate factory you have to pay 30 rs in return you can get free chocolate while leaving. The entry fee of tea factory is only rs. 10 for which you will get to taste seven different kinds of tea. In both the factorues they will explain the proces of chocolate and tea making. Overall nice experience.
Nice place to drive a car. Good quality collection of tea and chocolates available.
Bench mark tea factory is situated in route to doddabetta peak.. The ticket rate is 30 rs... We can see the process of making tea powder.. And also we will get a cup of tea made by their own tea powder.. And there is also a chocolate factory.. We can see how chocolate is made.. There will be a guide to explain all those activities.. They will give us a chocolate bar..the view from the factory is awesom.. We could see the ooty town from there
It was a good learning experience on visitingFree parking and entry cost 30 rs. For each ticket one chocalte will be given as sample. At entry point they will take you through chocalte manufacturing process and will be chocolate samples white and brown plain chocolates.Next up is the Tea manufacturing process here you will get samples of Normal T , cardamom T masala T and black T. Once you done with tasting samples then next a person will explain you about manufacturing process. As per Thier claim white T acts as an antioxidant and reduces BP, weight reduction and some more. 50g costs 500rs. Process of making is simple you need to pluck the bud and dry it and its done.Next is purchase counter where you will get to know the marketing strategy. Once get a ticket they say 25%discount for T powder and 10% for chocolates. Here chocolates samples will not be given for tasting. Compare the cost outside you will find here they say more than 50rs extra even after discount. Im not sure on the quality may be its good nor bad but I didnt buy probably you can compare buying here and outside can compare. Chocolates are too costly here. I would suggest better to buy at Connur rather than here, depends on ones interest
Good tea factory, well maintained and organized.. Not my crowded... Good view... Both inside and outside... Entry ticket 30rs/person definitely worth of money... Also you can taste 6 variety of tea... A Unique Tea Factory Producing 3 Varieties Of Specialty Tea In South Asia..
Chocolates too High cast . Better to buy on town market. Strongly not recommended. Rate different too much but not in taste.
There are two tea factory nearby each other. One is the Benchmark tea factory and the other is The tea factory and the tea museum. I recommend you to visit the second one. The benchmark tea factory is nonetheless also shows the complete tea making procedure from drying leaves to packaging of the tea. It also allows you to taste six varieties of tea, absolutely free. Theres a shop for you to buy tea, chocolates and essential oils inside the factory itself. The product rates are a little too much but worth the taste. The staff is really friendly and guides you at every stage. Cameras are allowed. They also show you the chocolate making procedure wherein you are also given spoonful of molten chocolate to taste. You can of course ask for more and they wont deny. One spoon of chocolate is never enough. The entry ticket is 20 rupees. Try the masala tea and coffee flavoured chocolates for sure. They are unique in taste. Must visit this place to see how your tea is brought to you from the tea gardens. Cheers.

HISTORY OF TEALegendary emperor Shen Nung is said to have discovered many medicinal properties of plants. Worshipped as a god for the many gifts he gave to China, the discovery of tea is attributed to him and even dated to 2737 B.C. The story goes that one day, while resting under a wild tea tree, Shen Nung, who always boiled his water, a breeze caused some of the leaves to fall into his pot of boiling water. When he drank the resulting brew, which he found delicious and refreshing, he discovered the stimulating beneficial properties of the tea leaf, and so the history of tea began. It is not known whether the Emperor really existed, os if he was simply a myth but it is generally accepted that tea was popular in China long before it was exported to the Western world. The Chinese word tu, which appears in these records, is the name for both tea and sow thistles. The distinction between the two was only made between 206 BC and AD 220, when anEmperor of the Han Dynasty ruled that tea should be pronounced cha a word still used in theUK until quite recently as slang for a cup of tea.Until the third century AD, tea was only used as a medicine made from leaves gathered from wild trees, but as demand grew, farmers began to cultivate it. Teas popularity grew during the fourth and fifth centuries as plantations were set up in the Yangtze River valley. Tea began to appear everywhere taverns, wine stores, noodle houses; in fact, it was held in such high regard it was even presented as a gift to emperors.Benchmark tea factory with the same history of Tea 💙
Wow, awesome its Haygnic
I have been here since my school days onwards. You can see how chocolate and tea is made. Though we are all addicted to some other tea. The taste of the tea here will be very awesome. Try once it change your mind. Cards are accepted here. Good parking space is here.
The products of Benchmark tea factory are of international standards. The rates of the products are little bit on higher note. But they maintain their quality and you wont feel cheated.
Great place to experience the process of making tea and chocolates. Can buy many different types of chocolates and tea. Its very old place. Theyll charge RS 10 for entry and will provide free tea
The tea factory is combined with Benchmark companies chocolate section also. Chocolate session is very disappointing. Tea museum is still better and you get to taste chocolate and different varieties of tea. They have a sales counter to go buy their own products like oils, chocolates, tea and biscuits. Take your own transport or ask auto chaps to wait otherwise it becomes difficult to travel back ,unless the local bus comes. There is an entry fee and they give you band on the wrist as shared in the images.
Such a beautiful, pleasant and lush greenery.. U can enjoy photography and tea gardens..fresh and clean place.. Must go.
This is actually a tea factory. You can see how tea leaves are converted into dried tea leaves which will be packed later. You can also see chocolate making and they will give you a small spoon of melted chocolate and a cup of tea for tasting. You can also buy chocolates, tea and other beauty products here. But I found it bit costlier than chocolates available in other parts of Ooty.
Very good place to visit. Staff over there are really awesome. Food is very good.
Well maintained even crowded, you can see each and every process of how the tea powder made from tea leaf. They offer free tea which is taste and sell different flavours of tea powder in counter which you can find while exit.
This complex houses tea manufacturing facility, tea tasting area, tea selling shop. They also have chocolate manufacturing, tasting and shops with the same complex. Must visit if you happen to come to Ooty. They have explained each and every process of making tea and chocolates.

This was a worthwhile visit for all the people who love tea and chocolate. You get to know how it is made. You learn about the making process and enjoy serene views at the same timeAdditionally, you get to enjoy free samples. Pure bliss to have fresh tea right from the tea gardens
I am tea lover so highly recommend to visit this place to know the process from tea gardens to tea powder what we get in the market.Positives :1. Could see each and every step of processing raw leaves to different types of tea powder.2. Complementary tea was tasty.3. Tea factory situated on top of a hill and we could enjoy the landscape of Ooty.4. Got to know the different varieties of tea and its advantages5. They have a chocolate manufacturing unit as well and could buy tasty chocolates as well6. Entry is free and even parking.Areas of improvement:1. Parking lot can be improved. Entry and exit from the same gate which caused blocks.2. Normal tea, masala tea packets are available only in 500 grams. It would be better if small quantity packets are also available.
This is one of the tourist spot in Ooty, honestly speaking you cannot see much of the tea process here just a small view.. They will give free chocolate for tasting also different varieties of tea for tasting.... The major part is shopping of tea dust and chocolates from here... Cost wise its high... Quality I dont know.... But if you are going with family this is a good spot for visit... But for bachelors its just waste of time....
During visit tea processing unit was not working. Only u can view chocolates manufacturing units.
All in one. They have chocolate factory and tasting, tea processing and tea tastings. Well managed but the bad part is too many steps to climb. Best is cardamom tea. Even I bought two packs. They do have oolong tea, masala tea, green tea, also they have lot of spices and herbal oils and other products.Well worth to visit. I have taken some photos of tea processing and attached herein.
The factory visit is nice. They provide sample tea for tasting. It tastes good only there. But don’t buy tea powder or anything from the shop (factory outlet) there. Factory outlet itself sells old stock. The packing date is printed on a sticker. It’s a big disappointment with all the varieties of tea powders that we bought. In our Valparai trip we got best of tea in the shops there. But generally in Ooty we felt cheated with tea powders. You won’t even get to see a good quality tea powder in Ooty shops. It’s just my opinion after buying from 3 shops and using tea powder for few months. Please suggest a genuine shop selling good quality tea powder in Ooty.
On of the best and valuable place to visit in ooty. Value for money. Dont miss it.
A decent place to taste tea and hot chocolate. The Singara Tea estate had better factory outlets where you can taste high quality tea. You can see the tea being manufactured here at Benchmark.
This place is heaven for tea loversThey have huge variety of teas which you can taste and buyYou have to pay 10rupees to get in and you can drink as much as you wantThis place also has an oil shop and a chocolate shopYou can know about how they process tea and how they farm teaThe staff are nice and helpful and I really enjoyed spending time hereYou can finish sightseeing here within an hour
I rated this as 3 mainly because it was more an excuse to have several shops than an interesting review of the tea preparation process. It seems that most of the participants were more there for tea tasting, which as an American I avoided because I was concerned about the cleanliness of metal cups, than the tea preparation process. Ive posted some of the plackerds regarding tea preparation, if you are really interested Id recommend just reading the Wikipedia entry. The smell of tea and chocolate, from the chocolate processing section, is quite overpowering so be aware.
Awesome Tea very Tasty. U Never drink such Tea. Chacolates &Tea powder in ur Life
If you are ever in Ooty, you must visit Benchmark Tea factory.- Tea Process can be seen- Tea tasting is one of the best experience.- Tea shopping- Ample car parking space- The view from the top is breath-taking
People can see variety of tea manufacturing processes
This factory not only produced tea and chocolate but also shared knowledge about making of tea and history of it. They clearly show how tea leaves are ground and processed in tea making. Best place in ooty as the crowd is much lesser here. It shows who invented tea and how its made in early ages. And comming to chocolate its just amazing. You can taste chocolate and tea manufactured there which will be a complementary for visiting the factory. Somehow i feel that the price of tea which they sell there is higher, of course they are selling it fpr the mrp rate but its in factory.
Interesting pictorial insights into the history of tea as well as manufacturing process. Quite congested place but worth of visiting for tea lovers and curious tourists. You can test all available varieties of tea and buy there.
This seems to be a marketing place for their tea and chocolates..... Anyway liked their business mind...Worth visiting for once..

Lovely place needs complete day to enjoy over there amazing experience
It was great experience watching tea formation from leaves, had nice experience.
This is the best factory I have ever visited its chocolates and tea are mind blowing
This is a MARKET, NOT a Tea Factory. There is an actual tea factory named Doddabetta Tea Factory a few meters behind. The workers and watchman here cleverly force you to get into this Market. Be cautious and keep driving until you spot the actual tea factory. One clue is you can find an adventure sports area opposite to the actual tea factory.
Must visit in ooty. We can buy tea dust, chocolates, and eucalyptus oil .
The place is not well organised. The tea making process is not very clearly visible. You see many people working there, but you won’t understand what is going on.The Chocolate store is over crowded and the making a payment takes forever! They have a lot of parking for vehicles.
The chocolates are good. However, please do not buy any tea products from here. The worst that I have ever tasted. Surprised to taste such tea from a place called Ooty !Please spend that money on something else. Customer service is hopeless. Money minded. Disappointed.
They explain the complete chocolate making process with Taste
Every one should Visit this place bcz tea and choc is very tasty... and every one should buy chco
Best to visit during your trip to Ooty.. owner itself welcoming every one.. and we had a good visit of the factory..
Nyc place, view from here is amazing..many types of chocolates and tea are available
The must visit place is ooty, Tea factory is awesome they show all the procedure of making. Tea and they provide infinite varieties of tea to taste and price for purchasing is reasonable. And the choclate showroom nearby is also great if you wish to buy chocolate and tea buy from here other outlets are so expensive, the place is little difficult to find because its ina hill area and around 400m away from the road, if you are going by car little bit problem
Nice place to get tea coffee and chocolate
Awesome... great explanation, and a whole big tea, choclate outlets
Very good place to experience tea and chocolate manufacturing. If you wish to buy chocolates in Ooty this is the most authentic store.
