Had a great weekend here. This place is absolutely serene and its a great option for a weekend get away. The food was a bit too costly but worth it. I loved thier break fast and the way it was arranged to meet everyones needs. A must visit place.
Food is expensive but tastyIt is at hilltopNeeds lil maintenanceOverall must visit to Mithun Chakrabortys hotel.❤️❤️
Its a big palace like hotel. First, rooms were neat and clean. Well maintained than the outdoors. Bathtub was bit untidy. Secondly, outdoor places are not maintained well. Plantations outside were not watered enough. Finally, the location is far from the city centre, which I like though. Calm and peaceful place to take leisure. But in our floor, we were only the guests. So, plan only on weekends, if u r afraid of loneliness in a big hotel.
Nice one. But old. Pool is not open yet.
Excellent place to stay... This Hotel includes swimming pool, discotheque, snooker and etc.., Mithun international group...
2nd time visiting this place I loved it
I really like this place.Very very spacious and spread-out unlike the so-called modern hotels. The location is scenic... Located on top of a hill. It is secluded, yet at the same time, it is very close to the main markets, which is just a couple of kilometres away.Nice food, very courteous staff and service. If you are lucky, you may be lucky to bump into none other than Mithundaa🙂
Hotel located in amazing place. Very chill climate
At the highest peak of Ooty, The Monarch is home away from home. The staff is courteous and extremely helpful. We stayed at the pent house and it’s absolutely stunning. If you are a huge group of people then the pent house is where you should stay! The food is outstanding! 10 stars for the food!
I stayed here 20 years before, visited again - lot of changes, but still has the old age essence.Interiors can be done better, food tastes good.
Very bad experience... not worthy food....waste of money
Great place for conducting Marriage Receptions and Family Meetings. Wonderful Ambience...
The rooms and bathroom has become old and need a renovation. Staff not very friendly. Highly disappointed 😞 complimentary breakfast was good but not great. Room service food was over priced. Overall below average for a 3 star hotel
Good place for wedding ceremony.... Nice and quality time .... Nice room service
Very costly but worth for money those who can affordable
Rooms were good and spacious. Due to COVID food was not prepared in the hotel and good preventive measures were taken during this time. Nice scenic rooms.
NO WIFIVERY OLD DRAWERSWORST /HALF COOKED FOODSJUST FOR MONEY SAKE ,THEYLL LET VIPS TO PARTY WITH IRRITATING HEAVY BASS SOUNDS TILL 2:00AM ,THERE BY SIGNIFICANTLY DISTURBING THE GUESTS SLEEPSIMPLY OVERRATED!PROS:BUFFEY IS GOOD
Monarch hotel is one of the oldest large hotels in Ooty, having excellent facilities. It has a beautiful view of the sunset. The staff is very courteous and welcoming. It has large rooms when compared to many other hotels with similar tariffs. Food is good. It is a perfect place to host conferences for large groups. The only reason why I am not giving five-star rating is that the furnishings and decor of rooms are little old styled and need a contemporary renovation. For those who like the old style looks, it is perhaps the perfect place.
Hotel monarch manager mr Krishnamurti is cheater. He bookd 5 room on dt 24/12/2020 for two night. We went on 25/12/20 5.00pm at the monarch but he refuse to give us room. In cold 4 couple and 4 children sufferef much he not given us room and we return. He told we have no room. But we have voice recording of Krishnamurtis confirmation.
Large hotel with lots of amenities but not maintained at all. Food is too expensive, not worth.
Its very nice and grand.
Landed up at this hotel in an ungodly hour and bumped into Mithunda at the bar. That itself is worth the five star rating. Cleanliness freaks and those coming with hygiene checklists would never understand old world charm and get the legendary feels of this place, they are better off checking into a ultra sanitised hospital with a TV for the night. Me id rather smell the mouldy carpets, the woody walls and beat Mithunda at a game of carrom while swirling a glass of single malt from his personal collection at the bar..
Nice stay.. Awesome food.. Keep it up..!
Haven’t stayed here yet but this is where the famous Malayalam movie “Vettam” was shot at... Looking forward to visiting this place sometime soon!!!
The hotel is situated on top of a hill, away from the hustle and bustle of civilisation. Very calm and serene. The hotel itself is quite spacious with restaurant and bar. Service is prompt. However you need a private vehicle to got to and from the hotel since its a bit isolated. Also its bit old. If you are looking to get away from the stress, this is the place. But if you are looking for excitement and to experience the culture I suggest other places.
HiNice place to stay. Though Ooty is too commercialized now a days but still this stay maintains some Nature which is really enjoyable. Plenty of flowers, trees keep you close to the nature.Rooms are good. I took queens room which has a balcony where two persons can sit and enjoy the evening. The Bengali food is really good made by Mr Debnath (chef). All together its a great stay.done
Rooms are not that expensive if you book online. There is a kind of 80s feel to the hotel. Everything like furniture, lift, restrooms are old, but in excellent condition. There is a gift shop inside the hotel premises. There is also a well maintained lawn and garden. If you are group of more than 10 people they can even set a bonfire for you guys at night. The bad thing about this hotel is that it is situated on the hilltop and it does not have good view out of the windows. Overall it was a good experience.FYI- this hotel is owned by Bollywood actor Mithun Chakravarti. The staff informed us that he stays here twice a year or so for a few days.
The Monarch is a famous landmark in Ooty as it was one of the first luxury hotels of this hill station. This is part of Mithun Hotels pvt Ltd which is owned by legendary Bollywood artist Mithun Chakrabarty. It boasts of all the facilities including a helipad and is famous with the film crew because they provide movie shooting equipment on rent. It has been part of many hindi movies and still continues to be a favourite because of the beautiful locations nearby.
The Monarch Ooty is the best property in Ooty for a beautiful satisfying vacation experience! It’s the highest peak in Ooty which makes the view all the more gorgeous!Taking a dip in their indoor heated swimming pool and the Bon Fire session at night is a delight!Beautifully furnished rooms & delicious food!A must stay!
Needs a makeover for sure....
Overall good. But service quality to be improved. Very basic toiletries and even toilet paper in the bathroom. Not worth the money paid. However the lobby and restaurant was fantastic and better than any other hotels I stayed so far.....
Nearby monarch Ooty (short for Udhagamandalam) is a resort town in the Western Ghats mountains, in southern Indias Tamil Nadu state. Founded as a British Raj summer resort, it retains a working steam railway line. Other reminders of its colonial past include Stone House, a 19th-century residence, and the circa-1829 St. Stephen’s Church. Its 55-acre Government Botanical Garden lies on the slopes of Doddabetta Peak.
Shifted to Hotel Monarch due to shortage of accommodation at Hotel Gem Park . Stayed in suite room no. 129, room & bathroom lousy, towels were old / torn, had to ask for room heater, hot water was not coming, one bottle of non branded water kept in room, now a days iron box & ironing table are basic amenities in good hotels, here they informed that you have to get it ironed at laundry on payment. Not worth for even half of what rent I paid. Very old property resembles a big booth bunglow. Not at all recommended for stay.
One of the best hotels there at ooty
Strickly not advisable. The hotel is dark and it needs renovation. One does not feel fresh after coming in the room.Infra is too old but decently maintained. The hotel is on a hill, so gives a good view around. But rooms need overhaul.
Pros - Location of the hotel is the best part of it. It is located at a very serene place with a very beautiful view of the Ooty town on one side and a forested valley on other. Service is also great.Cons - Interiors of the hotel is not well maintained. Bathroom fittings, water leakage in the balcony, non functional electric socket are some of the issues experienced.Prices of food are on the higher side.
Hotels location is awesome. They spent their time and efforts only to maintain their outer look just to maintain its reputation.Otherwise its really dump. Rooms are good. But bathrooms quality is really not well. WI FI is there but only to show that hotel provides wifi and when you will ask them they will answer you with number of reasons. As per hotels status its food service and quality is really really worst. The staff is also rude. I will recommend ,please avoid its food. I will share my experience , we orderd fruit salad , but they responded us as, they have only papaya fruit so we cant give you fruit salad. So we ordered ice cream, and what we got was , low quality ice cream which had small balls of thermocol.Think twice before you book this Hotel.
Its become very old needs a loy of improvements
Monarch hotel in Ooty is 3 star hotel about 2 km from Charing Cross. It is a beautiful hotel calm and quiet area not far of from Garden orBus stand Mithun Chakr aborty the famous Hindi actor is the owner of the hotel.well maintained and with all amenities l recommend any body going to Ooty to stay there and enjoy.
While travelling to Ooty from Coimbatore Airport in a small Ola-Outstation cab, I asked my wife – which type of hotel would you prefer during this trip? It was a short visit planned in very short time. She said: (Jisdin Paisa Hoga)..my dream is to stay at MithunDa’s hotel – “The Monarch”.I know her. And I knew her answer. I had prepared the surprise for her by booking this very hotel.Later she got a second surprise when she got to know that I could book the hotel with good discount through the portal and the price was much less than expected. The fact that it is MithunDa’s hotel, we were filled with special thrill. It is slightly away from main Ooty junction with good scenic beauty – hills, valley, tea gardens. Since we had a vehicle, commute was not a problem. There may be many small points for improvement, which would be there for all hotels, but I try to ignore them. They are not important to me.We were greeted with Superb food, although breakfast spread was limited. The staffs were nice. With them we chatted about MithunDa, SRK, Salman who usually visits this place. We will always remember this visit and MithunDa’s hotel as our dream vacation.
Loved the stay. Though there were about 4 to 5. Gujarati families and were making lot of noise, behaving bad and disturbing other guests, the staff at The Monarch was courteous. View and weather at the hotel is lovely. Iam a big fan of Mithunda and The Monarch. Would love to visit again. Thank you Mithunda
The hotel is stuck in a time warp. Needs a massive renovation. I wouldnt have complained if it was reasonable but they charge a bomb. Germ Park charges a little lesser and is on par with any 4 star hotel. However staff is polite and understanding.
Good service.Nice location. (if you have vehicle. 3km from ooty main area. but will not feel far...)Nice breakfast with different dishes. Food menu is three star rated.Needs improvement in hotel maintenance. After all we enjoyed.
It couldnt get more old school but with hyper increase in prices on food and stay prices. The food itself was avarage quality with an occasional potential of making ppl feel gassy. Rooms were not that great either with less than average cleanliness, room service but real old school speciousness. The lobby smells of old damp wooden carvings and fully carpeted with optimum capacity to hold dust, with a potential of never been vacuumed feel. One thing to point out though, is they have it mentioned in a large board outside that they discourage single use plastic... Yet as part of room complementaries they give single use plastic wares for shampoo, conditioner, shaving kit, toothbrush kit etc.
Dear Manager:This is to inform you that we were very happy with your treatment at your facilities during the stay of our team of Monarch. We could see from day one that the hotel service has a great quality, both because of its comfortable and appropriate facilities, as well as service and constant concern for our comfort. Thank you especially for being aware of our requirements. Thanks again to the team that made our stay a good time, comforting and secure. We are sure that when we return to your city, we will go back to your hotel. Success in his future endeavors.- Nazeer Ahmed. M- Shaziya Farheen
We stayed here for 2 days in Jun18. The location of the hotel is good but rooms are not maintened properly. When v checked in the board was displayed that there will be no room services means u cant get food in room.....this is the first instance in my life where i have seen such notice. There are only few rooms with queen bed rest all have two separate beds. Hotel is on hill top and you cant walk down for having food, there is nothing near by so u have to take buffet lunch or dinner in the hotel at expensive price. This place belongs to actor mithun but he hardly gives any attention or time to this place so dont go by this concept.
So I have mixed reveiw for this Hotel. Location is very nice!!! Located in peace and fully of greenery youll be relaxed!!, Hotel is safe too.But food is too expensive and not good. Old Room/Hotel buliding which are not well maintained. Wash room gives you feel like a lodge. Charge separate for indoor games.
Located on a Hill top, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Ooty town. Large foyer, large rooms, broad staircase and ample of car parking space. Lot of improvements can be done in House keeping and Maintenance. The replica of painting Napolean Bonaparte Crossing the Alps kept at stair case landing is neatly done.
One of the worst hotelsPoor in hygieneNo customer respects
Very very nice place I have ever seen!!!
We had a very bad experience at this hotel. When we checked-in the room had a strong smell. The linen was dirty and the room had fungus on walls. After returning to hotel on the first night we found that the bed was wet. The staff was impolite and rude and were not very helpful.WiFi was not working and despite our multiple requests to get it fixed over the course of our two days stay it was not fixed. Even the complimentary breakfast was not up to the mark.Out of the two lifts in the hotel only one was working and even that lifts buttons were not working properly. To sum it up we had an awful experience and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Location wise it is great...but oh my god..think atleast thrice before having food in this place !!! They are just thugs and nothing else ..we are from kolkata so they will emotionally put forward a bengali chef and he will tell you he will prepare homstyle bengali food ...simple dal rice roti chicken curry and a 1 piece gulab jamun for 5 people will vost you 4000 bucks !! Can you imagine..i am ready to pay but for the food they have served us it should not cross 2000 rupees. Rooms are bery shabby and they charge 5000 plus tac ...vwr ver disappointing eyxept for the lovely location. When we visited the property there was not a single boarder ..just imagine !! Mithun chakravortys hotel is just looting common people in ooty !!! Stay away please...
Nice hotel, food is decently good. I just felt the travel desk here needs improvement as they have a very casual attitude towards urgency of situations. Apart from this good staff and good rooms. Flies were there but manageble with mosquito sprays as I dont expect staying in nearby forest location and having no insects. overall good experience
With standards of the hotel, bathrooms are not maintained. As per the description online, the room was supposed to have mini bar and mini refrigerator, there were nothing like that in the room. I was given two Knights room when I booked one premier and one Knights. The only thing I am happy is the location, the location is good on top with decent view.Otherwise disappointed with the room.
Its located at a high point with complete serenity around. rooms are spacious and comfy. staff behavior is a delight experience. hall and lobby has enough moving space. over all its a great place to stay while in ooty.
Nice weather and view outside hotel
Stay was good. It was at very height and we can enjoy the lot. Out side lawn is plus where kids can play and enjoy and can take photograpks. Breakfast was ok...Should be served hot in that cold environment. Travel desk To be improved a lot. transport facilities from hotel to sight seeing is poor unless we have our own vehicles.
Location of the hotel is excellent. Overall excellent experience. Veg food is good. Non veg preparation gas scope of improvement. Its too spicy. Continental food cook was not available during our stay. The shop at the hotel is also reasonable.
Had great time... The views from the balcony, the room, the staffs... Most of them talk different languages (Only Indian). I dont like the quality of food and their taste... The buffet have the same menu everyday. Unless you are a south Indian youll not like it
Situated in nice location, but reaching there is a bit difficult, road is very narrow 2 cars at a time will be hard. otherwise hotel is dam good very happy. good food. if some one needs to enjoy scenic beauty can go for it. Except raod approach its vey goo.
Excellent, Luxurious Hotel to stay in Ooty
This hotel is fabulous, deserves a 5☆. A haven of luxury with the most spectacular grounds to explore. Our room was beautifully furnished with everything available. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and made our stay that little bit more special.
Nice location. Not crowded at all. Tea plantations just outside hotel. Plenty of parking. Courteous staff. Recently renovated I suppose. Clean linen and bedding. OK bathrooms. Can hear snoring from the adjoining rooms and thumping from floors above, so not very sound proofs rooms. Food in restaurant is just about OK. Not worth the five star rates they have. No fans and no AC even in higher grade rooms so expect to sweat if using the quilt on a warm night.
Lovely lounge, Nice rooms and clean washroom, good view, food is good but can be better. But reaching this place is a tiny trick. The nearest (any) shop is 3kms away. The travel desk is the weakest team in the hotel. The complimentary water bottles given during three days of my stay had broken seal, they simply refill it.
It was fine. But not so good, its not very well made. I mean that is kind of ok because in a place like Ooty this is a good one. But overall I would give it 3 stars according to furniture, food, facilities etc.
Each and everything is complete, just food is expansive. It is lso located on a higher peak of ooty., So nature is emjoyable
Decent place. Little more staff would make a difference. Friendly staff.water wastage, especially while waiting for hot water has to be stopped. Otherwise, clean rooms and great staff. Good location as well.
Damn pretty and clean hotel and its on top of a hill what more do u need!?
Worst experienceIt was like a haunted house
Cost against service offered is not worth it.The rooms are good but the washrooms are not up to the mark. When it comes down to the food it is very basic not upto the standards. They claim to have a discotheque , pool side dinner but thats just there for the name sake its not operational. The way staff behaves around here was not professional as per my experience. To end on a positive note the best is the location of the hotel which gives you a great view
Wonderful place but need some attention from Management. Old style building with huge space and a wonderful bengali cook - who will serve you best in Ooty.
Bad staff rude behaviour, poor housekeeping, poor service , food quality is not good. always faced shortage of bowls, dishes duriing breakfast . Served half cooked food for lunch as well as for dinner . Location is good. Need renovation and change in staff behaviour , improvement in service . They do notcare for customer.
Absolutely lovely location and ambience, Great facilities available, but staff response and room service is absolutely sluggish and not upto the mark at all, they dont respond even for requests made over 3 times in 2 hours to get the plumbing checked for no hot water in the washroom or to deliver drinking water bottles in the room!!!
A very bad, untidy and dirty hotel, not at all worth a 3-star hotel ranking. Room service is poor. Had to call three times for 1 bottle bottle. Do not get fooled by the outer infrastructure, because the rooms inside are dirty, at some corners paint was ripped. If compared the rooms were nowhere near the rooms of other 3-star hotels.
Nice hotel
Nice Hotel. Many Conference Halls are there. Famous Hotel in Ooty. Really good.
Decent place. The common areas are dirty and rooms look very old. thats why rating low. Its on a hill top with helipad and campfire facilities.
LOCATION IS AMAZINGYOU GET TO SEE NATURE AT ITS BEST HERE.
The rooms keys are too delicate that just a small turn with minimum force breaks it and youll have to pay fine for it....most of the rooms dont have heaters..
Above average hotel with decent hilly views from the room. Location is great too nearby the market and local attractions. Food was good. Hotel interior is quite spacious
Old building with quality renovation. Very polite staff. Fast and neat room service. Lighting in the conference room could have been better
One of the best hotel in ooty with good city view and amenities.Helpful and friendly staffAtmosphere is very calm and silent and suitable for familys,Acces to the hotel is very narrow and will have tough situations when vehicles coming from opposite side
Great location, you can see the entire Ooty city from your balcony. Breakfast spread is good too. Great job Mithun Chakraborty.
One of the oldest and best hotels in Ooty.Have had a very good experience staying at this hotel. It has very good service and also the food at their restaurant is nice.
Luxury begins here.
We have stayed there for 2 nights in May 2019. Here is how we rate them:- Food Quality: 1/5- Service: 1/5- Cleanliness: 3/5- Location: 4/5Service staff was inefficient, irresponsive and arrogant. It was the worst experience.
Good and pleasant stay
Excellent hotel with stunning views. courteous staff and management. food was yummy. room had a private dinning space and well furnished rooms.i truly recommend this hotel to all travellers especially ppl who love nature.
The hotel is not well kept, very unclean and broken, needs maintenance and repairs immediately. Food was ok staff was decent. We just went there for lunch.
Its wonderful property in Ooty....bit old now needs renovation, it has garden parking swimming pool I liked it
