Beautiful and famous monastery. Right now it’s a church, monks do not live there. But that allows us to walk everywhere and not to worry to disturb the monks. There is also a museum dedicated to the fight of Cypriots for freedom against the British. And several rooms where you can see the famous lace made by cypriot women.
Timios Stavros Monastery is located in (Omodos) a beautiful mountain village on the road to Troodos.A well preserved Monastery, used to be in the past a typical Monastery, now it is the main Church for both village inhabitants and visitors. There are cafes and souvenir shops with handicrafts items in the area.A visit to Omodos is highly recommended.Note that there is free public parking for cars.
Nice example of well preserved Monastery, the place used to be Monastery in the past, now it is church for village inhabitants. It worth the time to visit the village and enjoy its atmosphere. Very small place is known by its bakeries that produce sweet bread from the yeasts made from beens, you can buy it there with lot of other small souvenirs. Village is only 80 local inhabitants, nevertheless lot of souvenir shops and cafeterias and restaurants.
A church and monasyery in a beautiful small village. Worth the trip also for the village. Nice restaurants and small shops. The monastery is near the church. There are others small museums in the monastery complex: lace museum, an exbition on dry stone walls (temporary) and a resistance museum. The church itself has many beautiful icons and some reliques exposed.
This has to be my favourite village in cyprus. Well worth a visit. It was a beautiful village with lots of alleyways. The centre is positioned around the monastery and has lots of different cafes to choose from. The monastery itself was impressive. The people were so lovely and friendly. A little peace of heaven.
Amazing place worth to see ..
A beautiful village well worth a visit if you have time for a coffee and a little wonder round.
As with quite a few such places, the Church we visited, the Church of the Holy Cross was absolutely stunning. Very well kept, albeit rather small & only a 20-30 minute visit. Entry though is free.
Nice place, good restaurant. Well worth a visit. Bring a jacket, it can get cold
It is a nice place to visit while on holiday clean and looked after
Beautiful place, fantastic food. We got the seafood platter for two for €25, we thought it was quality 👍
Nice monastery at Omodhos
Very nice
Beautiful place
Rebuild monastry. Lots of relics and beautiful decoration insite...
Stunning town
Set in a beautiful village, we got a history lesson by from our guide
Fair heritage showcase, lovely cats
The religious centre dates back when Omodos village, was founded. There are pieces of evidence that it was in the 3rd century C.E. Timios Stavros Monastery houses the three-tier and gold-plated iconostasis. Marvellous! There is also a liturgical museum in the monastery. The monastery and the main church are worth visiting. Omodos is a nice village. There are souvenir shops. I found a nice restaurant that served tasty local food. There is a large parking lot in front of the village. In May 2015 were a lot of free parking spaces. Public toilets are available. I visited Omodos in May 2015.
So peacefully
Omodos is small & beautiful village with nice restaurants, shops & art galleries. Timios Prodromos Monastery is right in the center of the village. A must short visit if you are in Omodos.
Interesting, but would be better if there were English signs for the artefacts and information
Beautiful place
Lovely place to see
Well maintained beautiful monastery in mountains. Village is very small but picturesque with lots of bars to enjoy local wines. Nice and cooler than coast on summer holiday if you cant take the heat anymore.
Short break quaint village chuch and icons great
Magical place with free parking, entrance and toilettes 😉
Very peaceful. Well worth a visit. Nearby museum worth a look too.
Best in town for quality and price. The accurate service is an add on to the top. Well done and congrats.
Lovely place. Osmodos has a spirit! Worth it!
Very nice historical point with some artifacts from 18th century. Catholic Church. Covers provided on the entrance
Great place to visit. A very well preserved traditional village and a wonderful holly place full of history.
Lovely monastery in a picturesque village with lots of history on show. Town square is cobbled so you need suitable footwear to get around the village. Lots of eateries and local shops for souvenirs.
Very nice. Very good acoustic.
Very nice and very rich inside it has many antiques mosaics inside. Interesting things to see. Nice view of the mountains too.
Nice little monastery and local coffee shop was good must have lemon cake with ice cream
Classic example of a great piece of Architecture, great place to visit, also plenty of refreshments available outside under a shady umbrella. Lovely.
Worth the time
Lovely if you enjoy history of other countries as I do
In the centre of a pretty village. Plenty of parking in May. Whilst small the monastery is beautiful and packed with interesting displays. One room in remembrance of greek guerrillas fighting for independence was very poignant. Well worth visiting.
This monastic building has some very fine icons and silver work. There is small collection of reliquaries e.g. the skull of the apostle Phillip.
Place with a lot of history. Beautiful courtyard, nested against the mountain, making it perfect for photos. Its right in the middle of the village of Omodos.
Took the tour bus package. Worth a visit.
Must to see, very nice inside
Beautiful place very peaceful and the town that surrounds it is lovely too well worth a stop !
Well maintained...a beautiful place of worship....
Well if your into monasterys and churches Cyprus is the place to go ,there all over that country in some breathtaking places ,
Monastery its self is very interesting, my only gripe was that they request you wear a robe to enter if you have bare arms or legs, had to wait 35 minutes for a robe. Annoyingly many tourists just went in, some topless. Wish folks would respect other cultures customs.
Nice to walk around. Sign said its from the 3rd century. Didnt seem to be that old, but we just walked around a bit
Cool if you like those stuff
A very nice monastery, hosting intersting arctifacts
This is a beautiful place with a rich history its a must visit place be prepared to don a gown ladies
Amazing place in beautiful surroundings well worth a visit. A memorable day.
Beautiful just breath taking.
Very interesting
Awesome place .though best visited when not lots of your coachs there.
Nice little village in the middle of nowhere. Bustling market and shops. Monastery in the town centre free parking also.
It was my first time in Cyprus and this place is definitely worth the time to get there
Nice to visit, but walk around the back streets and you will find other interesting places in Omodos.
Small but really beautiful monastery. Central place of this stunning village! Worth see while in the area.
A beautiful monastic building with superb porticoed facades. Intersting rooms with authentic icons, local embroidery work and lace. The church, although not old (1878) is a nicely balanced building. The little town of Omodos, in the centre of which the monastery stands, is worth a visit too.
Very lovely place to visit and experience but didnt like when my little boy light up a candle in their candle place to remember his grandmother they were just taking them out straight away and putting in the bin.
Beautiful church and nice pisfull town.
Nice place to visit worthyContain pieces of the holy cross
Well worth a visit. A small but interesting monastery
Some modern mosaics all beautifully made - pleasant mountain scenery. Free entry.
Lots of reliqs, much to view.
Must for visit in Omodos
Great place to visit, beautiful and serene also😀😀
Well worth a visit, the TUI guide was very knowledgeable.
Good outing to see into the past
The Monastery of the Holy Cross was built 210 AD.When you walk into the church you feel such a relief as a heavy weight has left you.The artifacts in the church are just amazing. The icons of all the saints and the Holy Cross. This tranquil experience should not be missed a prayer for all your loved ones and the beautiful grounds of the monastery. But please be dressed properly before entering the church. But the monks have thought of this as well and have robes outside the church.A small donation is appreciated as it helps to maintain this holy placeCyprus is full of beautiful monasteries and churches and they are all so serene and tranquil. Could spend hours in them just sitting there.... so calming and so peaceful.
Nice views. nice place to drop by if your in Cyprus
Great place full of history well worth a visit
The most beautiful place I have seen.
Pretty intact church in the heart of Omodos worth a visit if nearby
Very good place worth visiting
We just admired it from the outside and just inside the courtyard.
Steeped in history, perfect place to visit on route up the mountain
Was OK but nothing startling. Omodos village where the Monastery is was a nice wee place
