We were in NYC for a Anti Fur protest march and after a whole day of that were looking for a place to eat vegan food without breaking the bank. Ayurveda Cafe serves vegan and vegetarian food and their unique menu du jour and eat all you can concept along with the healthy cooking style with very little oil and spices were an ideal match for our needs. We dined on Papad, veg. fritters, a curry of broccoli and potatoes, another curry of eggplant and peas, a lentil Daal and Indian bread spread with olive oil and brown and/or white rice. The meal ended with a confection named coconut burfi which was the best part of the meal. Of my dining companions one was a Pilipino and another American and yet another Indian and we all unanimously found the food highly palatable. The service is also quick and courteous. In addition, the restaurant serves Indian wines and beers to accompany the meals. The abundance of the quality food and the simple ambiance makes a great location even for a business meal on a low budget for vegans and vegetarians. We had the pleasure to meet the owner who is a very accomplished chef, restaurateur, actor, film maker and the founder of a yoga organization, too. A must visit restaurant for a novel experience.
Incase if youre visiting this place thinking they serve Indian food, DO NOT. Food was extremely bland and lacked flavor. This would be a good place for you if you cannot handle the spice as everything is extremely bland. They only serve the Thali and you do not find the ala carte option. The hosts were friendly and welcoming.
Its tiny and the menu is set but its a lovely place for a meal by yourself and for couples though they do accommodate small groups. Its a real find in a frenetic neighborhood.
North Indian vegetarian meal which is unlimited (Indian phrase for all you can eat). After a tiring walk at Central park accidentally discovered this place, went there and had a nice Indian meals after missing it for a few days. The owner was there when I had the lunch and he was kind enough to share his work with Indian movies like Shivaji and Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu. He seems to be a movie buff. So if you are a Indian cinema fan, do have a conversation with him. Also if you are into Art of Living yoga.
Visited Aug 2021 after nearly 15 years. Sadly standards have really fallen. Sattvic Ayurvedic food can still be delicious but the Thali we got on the Sun we visited was not. Can be quite a hit and miss experience. Maybe the only plus point is very mild and less oily Indian food - a plus point!!
Nice home cooked style and healthy food. Not greasy and overly spicy like 99% of Indian restaurants.
I liked the Food. It was fantastic and very delicious. The best part when you finish eating they give you a tiny Dessert, is very sweet of them to do.
Just had a fabulous meal here! The food is flavorful and delicious with a solid variety of options. The food is basically already prepared so you get your meal quickly. The service is attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is calm and comfortable so you end the meal really feeling great, especially after all the veggies you ate. Menu rotated but I really enjoyed the fried veggie cake, lentils and broccoli-potato dish. The rice pudding dessert is good too.
Love. Love. Love. I have been coming to Ayurveda Cafe for a few years now. I love that there is no menu and I am always pleased by the simple yet delicious plates. I come here when I am craving warm, home-cooked food, to ground and center myself. The staff is lovely, love their spiced tea, and always remember to take a fortune on your way out π
Just ordered from here and am so pleased I did. Tasty vegetarian food at an excellent value. And I love that they have a simple set daily menu with items you can add on.
The food is bland and overcooked because they prepare it early and reheat it all day. Its overpriced. I dont recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially those with food allergies, intolerances, or sensitivities. I told the owner/manager multiple times before going (and when I arrived) that theres one ingredient I cannot consume at all. He served me a dish and insisted that I try it as he pushed on and served a full meal to the person I was with before we ordered. After we started eating, I asked again if the food contained the ingredient I mentioned, and then he said it did! He isnt honest and prioritizes making money over someones health.
Amazing vegetarian food with extremely nice staff.
Simple, fresh, and delicious food. Loved it!
The best comfort food I have had in nyc ! We order from here very frequently. Good, fresh and healthy food that reminds me of home ! Do try their gulam jamun that comes with the dinner/lunch menu, one of the best made gulam jamunβs I have had. Their sweet lassi is the perfect end to an amazing meal :)
Healthy meals and a bit bland but that works for me! Service could be better. I donβt know his name but he treats different customers differently. We have been tempted to not leave him any tip this one time he was careless and ignoring us but we ended up tipping because it was the right thing to do. We always peep in to see if heβs there and get out if heβs there.
Amazing plant based food
Quiet place, filling food, excellent taste!
Big fan of this place. Affordable lunch option with a really great variety. Staff is very kind.
My favorite restaurant in New York City. A hidden gem I wish there was one closer to my apartment.
Always a treat. Great place for dinner.
I visited Sunday after church. Theres a special all you can eat that the server did not explain to us so we were confused on how to order etc. We asked for menus and was told, we get everything...okay!The food was mediocre. The service could have been better as well. There was some kind of items floating in both our waters. We werent told what the food was when the food was delivered. For example, there was an array of different dishes and it would have been appreciated if we was told what each dish were.If I do visit again, it wont be for Sunday all you can eat!
This place has pretty good food for the price. Nothing extraordinary, but reliable and consistently good, which explains why its been in the neighborhood for so long.
My favorite place to have Indian food in the area. The food is always delicious, the prices affordable and the staff friendly. What more could you want?
Low keyTasty
I love this restaurant.. feels like family. Such good food.. the menu is set for the day. I have never been disappointed
Healthy, big portion, friendly, loved it.
Ordered the lamb rejala, veggie samosa, garlic naan, and aloo gabi this place is awesome!
Tried this place today. Its only a couple of blocks from my apartment. And I was impressed. The food is delicious, and they give you a good mix of flavors. Paid $12.00 bucks for the lunch menu and it was well worth it.
With a fixed menu, you eat whatever is on offer. It is always super-fine food. The range of tastes is good enough - theres always at least one outstanding dish - and the effect of eating here (or eating it at home) is so clear and clean and tranquil and fulfilling. Its a lot of food for the price - at home you can save up to half for another day. It certainly gives Ayurvedic cooking a good name. Thanks guys for what you do.
To me the best restaurant in the neighbourhood. Healthy and friendly, pure positivity!
Great people, awesome food, an easy choice. I eat here every time Im in the area and even come up from Brooklyn sometimes. I love this place. I dont have to think and I eat my heart out.
Authentic and awesome
Absolutely amazing, authentic Indian food. Special thanks to this cafe for reminding me so much of home and making me a little less homesick
Ive been here twice for both Lunch and Dinner specials. You cant go wrong with either. Unlimited Naan, lentils and rice. It isnt the best Indian food Ive had in New York city, but its a satisfying meal. Before you leave, make sure you take a prayer card from the Golden shrine box!
How could you not love this place?!? If you love curry and vegetarian, this is the place. Every time I come here, I leave with a happy face. Simple menu and delicious food. Also they refill any food you want more with no extra charge.
Im so happy Ayurveda has reopened, they are an essential part of healthy eating on UWS. Thank you!
Love the perfectly balanced and proportioned meals. Never leave their table wanting more or feelling stiffed and bloated. People are warm and open, the atmosphere is sweet and simple. The service is sublime. Thank you
I was skeptical at first... no meat, no menu options. But the whole place and the owner just put me at ease. Its a great place to stop, slow down and enjoy some home-style cooking. Its whatever your mom made...
A prefix menu which takes all the pressure of having to chose something off of you. Every time Ive come here, the food has been wonderful, the staff has been attentive, and the ambiance has been fun. Oh, did I mention its all-you-can-eat?! Amazing.
Beautiful experience. I will be back again :)
Very tasty vegetarian food! Something about this place makes everything feel especially homemade. You can order seconds of everything too, though they give you so much food that you probably donβt need to.
All you can eat $11.95 with warm gracious hosts. Nice place to eat good vegetarian food. Nice crowd. I was pleased.
Incredibly spiritual atmosphere, warm staff, family owned, food that feeds the soul. Anything they prepare for that day is delicious. Guru is the best.
Very soothing space, quiet and friendly. No menus just eat what they serve that day. Its amazing vegetarian Indian food. I love this place and was there for lunch all the time when I lived in the neighborhood. You will not be disappointed and my personal promise no heartburn after your meal. Highly recommended.
This is one of the best restaurants in upper Manhattan. Just choose a drink, brown or white rice and enjoy whatever fresh, healthy dishes they bring out for you after. Everything is bottomless so you never leave hungry.
A fixed menu of delicious vegetarian dishes in little bowls. Ask for more of any dish you like.
Extremely authentic vegetarian Indian food with very good service in a relaxed and simple setting. The food is good and well planned for a balanced diet. The place has been here for a while and seems to have lots of regular customers from the area. Organic beer and wine choices are a nice bonus.
Very disappointing. I was excited to see an affordable fixed price Indian place, but the food turned out to be extremely bland and mostly very mushy in texture. With drinks and tip, it also ended up being just as expensive as any of the more reasonably priced restaurants around here ($50 for 2). It was filling, but not much else. If you like to appropriate Indian culture and pretend that youre a better person for it, this may be a good place for you. If youd rather have a good, enjoyable meal, there are a lot of other options.
Ayurveda is my favorite restaurant in nyc it feels like eating at home the staff is friendly and always welcome you with a smile. I would give them 10 stars if I Could
Absolutely amazing vegan food and ITS ALL YOU CAN EAT... I guess God does exist... for my prayers were answered
Always different. Most days I love all of it, every time I love most of it, even if one dish isnt my favorite, there are many other options. The staff is super nice and were always happy we went there.
This place is awesome. All you can eat, owner - Guru is mad nice. Iβll deff be back!!!
All you can eat heartwarming kosher and vegetarian (vegan friendly, but they have some dairy options) Indian food in a nice quiet atmosphere. You get a plate with everything on the menu for the day and can ask for more of anything or everything you like. No tough menu decisions, you can actually talk, and all for less than an appetizer costs at some other local joints.
Neighborhood spot. Only order what is prepared that day. Prix Fixe. Inexpensive. Can go alone and read or journal and sit for hours. Calming music. Great spot.
Ive been eating here for over 16 years. Such a place of comfort and peace. The food is a homey as it comes, and the staff is always so sweet. Beautiful music is always playing too. I hope I can continue coming here for at least 16 more years.
Super friendly staff and great food at an even better price. Highly recommended.
Well, Im not a vegetarian. Sorry, I like meet. I wasnt even sure if I want to get in... WoW!That was great! Great value for money. Great food. Surely Ill visit again!
This place was a discovery for me! They will charge you a set price no matter how much you will eat. Although you don have a menu to choose options from, they serve 6 differently dishes at a time - that you will definitely find what you like. More that that, itβs only vegetarian! Love this place and would recommend it to anyone!
I like the unusual menu format. I went only once. I like Indian food, but I wasnt that into what I had here. Maybe Im used to more americanized restaurant Indian (?), but I thought it was all fairly bland, perhaps more appropriate food for eating healthily regularly, rather than as a special hedonistic event. The tea was tasty :)
One of my favorite places. I can pig out and not feel guilty, everything Ive had has been delicious, cant beat the lunch price and the friendliest staff and owner. Lots of love in their food. I love meat but dont even notice its all vegetarian here.
Excellent!
Very quickly served and fresh, hot vegetarian Indian food. The chutney was very spicy and we really enjoyed the experience. I would return to try another pre-fix!
Great place, great food. Very nice people & very reasonable price. What more can you ask for :)
Its a fixed price, fixed menu - meaning you dont choose from a menu, they make one multi-course meal for everyone. Its kind of like in someones home and I think thats what they intended. Meals are served to you but you can ask for seconds or thirds for that matter. Service is really friendly and Ive seen a lot of return customers also like the family feel!
Warm and welcoming environment. Delicious, healthy food, and lots of it βΊοΈ. Theyll keep filling your plate, though I couldnt even finish my first round. Very peaceful.
The best hands down. Always fresh always amazing
Okaysβ type Indian food. Id suggest to add few more good & tasty food menu options and give option to customers of buffet. Also, you get beer & wine with the Ayurveda food, rarest combination ever. π (Insult of Ayurveda) Anyway, that was an Ok type of restaurant to visit. Theres nothing so called as starters but only main course which includes green veggies and Curry, with wheat bread and rice. Adding curd or buttermilk would have been great which is missing. And they served extra desert at no cost. βΊ
Serenity. The best word to describe walking into this amazing place. They serve one meal a day, depending on which day you go, they have great wine and beer as well. Healthy, yummy food based on ayurvedic principles of food preparation. You can even rent a movie from the owners for a small deposit. A healthy, hearty meal for a small meager price.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Great place!!
I actually feel healthier when I eat here! All you can eat vegetarian Indian fare. The chef is wonderful, the vegetable dishes are delish! Just tell them you are vegan and or gluten free and they will accommodate! This is vegan comfort food at its finest!
This is what authentic Indian food should taste like - wholesome, simple, and nutritious. Incredible value for what you get. I order thru Seamless and can usually stretch the generous portions for lunch and dinner the next day. Thank you!
This place is an escape from the madness of what the world is turning into. Its a place of peace, serenity and delicious food. Once you eat here, you will come back over and over whether with a group, one other person or all alone. Its kinda like the purpose of life!
The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the servers were very kind.
The food us great and the spirit here is spiritual.
Great little Indian place based on Ayurvedic principles. Very nice staff and good food that is simple to order. You simply specify if you want white or brown rice and also if you prefer not to have dairy and make the meal vegan. Delicious!
I have eaten here several times. They have a set menu with little choice but the food was always excellent and the prices are incredibly low., The place is cozy and small so I recommend a reservation for dinner. It is on the west side of Amsterdam Ave. between 91st & 92nd Street.
A REAL, AUTHENTIC Ayurveda place! Just came from the Ayurveda clinic in India and find this food identical to what I had there! Even Masala Chai tastes as good as in India. Highly recommend! And remember it is ALL YOU CAN EAT! Although I must say that food is beautifully balanced and I felt full after completing the first round.STAFF IS SUPER-NICE!
Wow. Superb. Simply fantastic. I loved the foods and waiters. I loved the guy with buddha tattoo on his hand and he was so passionate about his job. I hope he becomes a professional waiter. Thank you guys. Lovely experience overall.
Omg amazing. Favorite NYC eatery - highly recommend. Vegetarian.
