The National Museum of the American Indian is a national museum with Native American art and artifacts, some going back 12,000 years, displayed in the a Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House. It’s located at 1 Bowling Green in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York, NY It’s open Monday they Friday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. I remember visiting the museum during school field trips. It’s such an interesting place to visit and learn since it offers a rich variety of things to see.

So educational, informative, enlightening, and stunning. I appreciated the COVID-19 protocols. The art was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. The artifacts were interesting, I really enjoyed learning about each one. I enjoyed and appreciated the museum overall. Again, the art was so impressive...the talent and passion just oozing from each piece. Native American history and present influence is so important and crucial and Im happy I experienced this museum, hoping to become more culturally competent.

Im amazed that there is free admission for the quality of this museum. There is so much to read and take in you can definitely spend a few hours here. Very clean and quiet with employees throughout ensuring the museum is treated respectfully. There are various types of artworks from small drawings to large scale abstract pieces. Plenty of weaponry, several ceremonial headdresses, pottery, jewelry, photography, and much more. I absolutely enjoyed myself and will return as I had an event right after. A must visit if youre interested in indigenous cultures from all over the world.

This was my first time to be here. The building was attracted my eyes when first time visited New York. Finally I found time to visit this museum this year.Go upstairs will be the entry, and the security will need to scan your bag. Go in the center of the building, you’ll see the amazing oval celing, and amazing paintings around it. And you’ll also see a lot of Native American culture in there, which I never seen before. The painting part of Native American is my favorite, their way to choose the color and the way to describe their story, very colorful and lively. Highly recommend bring your children to there, they will have more way to read the history of Native American.

A well-managed, clean, exquisite museum. Highly recommended if you have an hour or two, or waiting for the ferry to bring you to the nearby islands :) The current exhibition by T.C. Cannon is beautiful and quite powerful. The best thing about it is that it’s FREE. You only need to have your belongings screened for security.

I came here hoping to find someone that could give me some insights on the archives despite knowing they are closed on the weekend. I then spent several hours here exploring the exhibits unsure of quite what I might find. The truth is: all sorts of visual touchstones. Art from some far northern peoples (I’d become fascinated with the different seafaring First People tribes during a visit to Port aux Choix in NW Newfoundland), to a children’s exhibit on kayaking in the far north and different clothing of tribes there, to art of peoples all over North and South America. I was most enthralled to see pieces of Mississippian art and artifacts from my home region in the Deep South but second only to that were various pieces from the Seminole in the state of my birth.

Very Big building and it is free to visit. The front of the building is usually the meeting place for tour guides to start their tour with different companies. Warning ⚠️ there are other people standing outside trying to make you buy a ⛴ ferry ticket to see the Statue of Liberty 🗽 but don’t fall for their tricks you can ride the Staten Island Ferry ⛴ for free and it passes by the Statue of Liberty. They are very aggressive but don’t look at them or y’all to them. Don’t ask them anyQuestions. If you have a question simply ask your own personal tour guide or you will be a Big tour Guide stand that have a ton free maps now he was super kind and helpful but the people that are selling the ferry tickets I didn’t look their way I totally ignored them like I didn’t even hear them speak a word. One guy was like sorry I thought you were a tourist but I see you are a New Yorker 😂 Yeah right he just wanted me to talk back I didn’t say a word I just kept on walking ‼️🚶‍♀️ 😂😂😂

Its a short hop from 9-11 and One World Trade Center and Observatory. The Wall Street Bull is very nearby too. Depending on where you are coming from the 4, 5, 1, and R will get you down here...Also Nearby is Battery Park for Statue Cruises and the free Staten Island Ferry

The outside alone is amazing! I didn’t get an opportunity to go inside this time, I was late for a dinner reservation. However, as you can see from the photos, it is one of the coolest buildings in New York. When you see the bull statue, it is directly across the street. Great architecture! You don’t want to miss the short trip across the street.

Classical, stately architecture for a museum that explains the customs and art of Native Americans. You can see everything from art and costumes to artifacts. There are some traditional early American art in the museum as well that decorates the ceilings. Very easy to get to via the bowling green station or the R, which is close by. Also the archive is apparently very worth exploring as well though I did not view it.

Extremely impressive free museum and should be at the top of your list if youre interested in history/art and need something to do without spending a fortune. If youve never visited the area, Battery Park is next door and the museum lives in the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House which is a historical treasure that has been historically preserved. The museum shares its space with the National Archives so be prepared for a higher than normal amount of security for a museum with metal detectors and x ray machines for bags. Easy to spend 1-2 hours without realizing it. Theres even a small interactive family area/learning center that is geared more towards children but is still fantastic and enjoyable as an adult and was the highlight of the entire museum for me. Getting to experience how Native American Indians experienced life and how they hunted or trying to beat my best time for amount of time spent balancing a kayak. This is a must visit for the free price of admission and does not dissapoint!
