Impulse Filmmaking Workshops is the best place to be introduced to the world of filmmaking in a few days. I did the summer course about ten years back and it was one of the most fruitful experiences of my life. We ended up making a short film at the end of the workshop and learnt so many little things during making it. It really is a film school experience in a condensed form. Highly recommended.

I make documentaries and films related to environmental issues. The impulse workshops have been exciting and introduced me to various concepts in storytelling and aesthetics. Editing for the workshops gave me insights into the kind of films that are made in a short span of time. Student work in the workshops is artistic and compelling. The screenplay writing workshop was a great introduction to writing for films, it provided all of the necessary tools and technical aspects for a storyteller who wants to grow in the medium. The workshops are great for both professionals and amateurs who want to learn how to make films that tell beautiful and touching stories.

Was a part of the 2016 Summer Intensive Workshop. It definitely helped me change my perspective about cinema and filmmaking when I was just starting out. Gives you such an insight over the type of films that are made in the world and the practical exercises really help you to get a thorough understanding of making films. You feel equipped to face the challenges of making a film

I did summer weekend workshop (72 + hours) at Impulse last year in June. I also attended their half day screenwriting workshop. They are the most amazing workshops that I have ever attended. Classes are intensive and done in an intimate setting where all students are urged to participate and contribute. The faculty is amazing and the set-up helps learning the art of film making better. I was so inspired that I got down to making my own short film right after the workshop. Kavita is a great mentor and continues to be a support in my storytelling journey.

I attended the workshop couple of years ago, and found it extremely helpful in developing my film basics. We had great discussions and exercises during the workshop, that helped me shape my film language, and decide on my career as a colorist in Mumbai.Highly recommended.

I had participated in this for a full time summer workshop and it had been the best use of my time. I had always been a movie buff and developed an interest in the process of film making. I even made a short film in the end. Worth the money and time!

I attended the summer intensive workshop in 2016 while I was in college. The workshop lasted for 2 months and was fully hands on and had long hours. I was taught the basics of filmmaking, introducing me to visual language and narrative flow, camera, sound, lighting, editing and countless other things. The first month includes various practical exercises, screenings of films, theory and lectures that introduce you to such concepts. The last month is dedicated more towards the making of a short film that serves as the final project for this workshop. All in all, the workshop was an amazing first step for me since I was interested in films and had no idea how to start. It helped me understand the entire process of what goes behind making a film. When you make a short on your own, you start appreciating the kind of work that goes into creating any sort of digital content, no matter what its length is. I work independently as an editor now and the workshop helped me understand and study films at a deeper level. Id recommend it to anybody who is interested in films and wants to get a head start and understand all the aspects of filmmaking. The hours are long and its a little intense but youll end up learning a lot over 2 months and have a deeper appreciation for films and the beautiful world of cinema.

What I loved about the workshop is that it was so hands-on. This was the first time that I got to film with professional equipment and be a part of the entire grueling process of filmmaking. From ideation to pitching to scripting and finally working in teams to execute those words was a truly enriching experience. The guidance and support from Kavita and Mahesh enabled me to absorb everything and encouraged me to pursue a career in films.

In 2012, I attended the Impulse filmmaking workshop. It was a wonderful experience of not only learning the art of filmmaking but also to appreciate the entire creative process. Kavita Joshi is truly a passionate filmmaker. The values that she had instilled through her very personalized teaching process, I wouldn’t imagine I would get those insights even in a professional institute. She takes out time to understand each student’s creative ability and nurtures the student through out the duration of the course. The classes were also very interactive and hands on.The skills which I had learned in the workshop helped me a lot in my career as a communication development specialist. I moved on to work with German Development Cooperation and later on in the United Nations. During the course of my career I have commissioned several short films and have worked closely with many independent filmmakers, to produce films on environment and climate change and other social issues. The course had definitely helped me to establish a solid foundation on understanding the art of filmmaking.Besides, I found Kavita Joshi a very kind human being and her love for cats is amazing !

In 2012, I left my corporate job and decided to pursue the career I always wanted to. I joined the weekend extended progamme at Impulse Filmmaking. Shifted to Mumbai next year. After assisted in numerous films/TVCs/music video and directed couple of documentaries/corporate videos, I realized what I am able to achieve today that’s foundation was laid in 2012. The workshop not only taught me filmmaking but also prepare me for the real battle.Apart from theory class, the hands on experience which you get here, will not only boost your confidence but also expand your vision, thought process and the way you look to cinema. Not to mention you actually realize that filmmaking is a team effort. To conclude, Impulse will also teach you things which you will need most in the film making career apart from just the filmmaking !!!

Kavita Joshi is a gifted filmmaker and teacher. She loves what she does, and it shows in her work, the films she has made, and the workshops she conducts throughout the year. Impulse Filmmaking Workshop, the one I was part of in the year 2010, has had a huge role to play in my filmmaking life so far. Even today, after having made 5 short films and recently, completing a feature film, whenever I am in doubt, I refer to my learning, the insights I gained during those 6 months of the extensive filmmaking program. Kavitas workshops are a boon for filmmaking-aspirants from across the Indian sub-continent.
