Shish Gumbad is a tomb from the Lodhi Dynasty and is thought to have possibly been constructed between 1489 and 1517. The Shish Gumbad houses graves, whose occupants are not unequivocally identifiable. Historians have suggested, the structure might have been dedicated either to an unknown family, which was part of the Lodhi family and of Sikandar Lodis court. It is constructed in square shape. Combination of bracket and lintel beams, the architecture is a blend of Islamic and Hindu architectures. Although the Gumbad has an external semblance of spanning in two floors, the structure made only in one floor.
The Shish Gumbad is a tomb built during the time of the Lodi dynasty of the Delhi Sultanates. The building is a highly symmetric square shaped structure topped with a islamic dome. The building is an early example of fusing of regional style of North India with the newly arrived Islamic style of the Lodi conquerers to form Indo-Islamic style. The exterior of the building is highly influenced by the style of architecture of Hindu temples such as columns, capitals, brackets and lintel beams. While the interior is unmistakably islamic with niches, floral patterns and Arabic inscriptions. Also inside are tombs of unknown persons. The building is located inside Lodi Gardens and looks very pretty thanks in part to the well tended gardens, lush location and that it stands on a low hill. So pretty that it’s a popular location for photos for locals and wedding couples alike.Worth visiting along with all the order architectural ensemble of Lodi monuments in the gardens.
The Sikandar Lodi Tomb complex is a beautiful park with a lot of old ruins. It is a lovely place to come picnicking and/or escape the hustle and bustle of Delhi. There many old tombs around - some of them almost in their original state and others are just an indistinguishable pile of stones. It is a beautiful place for a stroll. It usually gets quite busy on the weekends and it is a good idea to come here on a weekday. The Sikandar Lodi Tomb complex is definitely one of the places to visit if you are in Delhi.
I was here couple years ago. In February, the cold season. Shish Gumbad is situated in the Lodhi Gardens in Delhi and the area where the tomb is situated was formally called village Khairpur. This place is is a tomv from the last lineage of the Lodhi family and is thought to have possibly been constructed between 1489 and 1517. All the structures are loveable. Its the wonderful historical place Ive ever saw
Tranquil, joyful and beautiful is how one can describe the beautiful Lodhi gardens. Any time of year, any time of day it is a panacea to the soul. Shish Gumbad is one of the 3 ASI- protected tombs that are in the gardens. It gets its name due to the blue tiles which are used on the dome which glisten like glass in the sunlight. Remnants of these blue tiles are still there, though most have gone.
Exact date of construction of Shish Gumbad is not known. There are four monuments (tombs) in the Lodhi Gardens including the Shish Gumbad. The oldest of the four tombs is the tomb of Muhammad Shah (who belonged to the Sayyid dynasty). Shahs tomb was constructed in 1444 CE by Ala-ud-din Alam Shah. During the rule of Sikander Lodhi, the Bara Gumbad and adjacent mosque were constructed. Sikander Lodhis tomb was built by Ibrahim Lodhi in 1517. The Shish Gumbad is said to have been constructed between 1489-1517 CE by Ibrahim Lodhi.Although some historians believe that the Gumbad is a tomb of Bahlul Lodi, who was the Sultan of the Lodi dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate, the Shish Gumbad houses tombsof an unknown family that may have been a part of the Lodhi family and a part of Sikandar Lodis court

Shish Gumbad at Lodhi Garden, New Delhi. Built in Lodhi era.
Beautiful place , I like the structure of ghumbad
Good place for watching Mounments.
Sheesh Gumbad got its name from the turquoise & cobalt-blue glazed tiles that shined like glass on the monument.Only traces of the glazed tiles can now be seen on the outside. This square tomb topped with a dome was built between 1489-1517 & it houses the tombs of the unknown family belonging to the Lodhi dynasty.
Awesome
An outer appearance of two storeys and niches is the prime feature of this monument
Nice!
Wonderful garden with a variety of birds.Beautiful historical monument are also present.Attractions :-POND,Musical Fountain,NurseryHerbal gardenBirds area.
Old Lodhi era monument. Surrounding gardens are good. Ample sites for photography lovers.
Shish Gumbad is a Historical Dome structure situated in the middle of Lodhi Garden. No one is sure whose tombs it houses. Really worn out stone sin the approach path - so be careful there. Surrounded by the lush greenery of Lodhi Gardens. Even in the middle of summer it is cooler than outside - though the guards there will not let you sit there for long!!
Beautiful historical monument are also present.Attractions :-POND,Musical Fountain,NurseryHerbal gardenBirds area.
What I loved about this place is that its that you can sit here in group of friends and family. You can also jog here in the evening. There is very large space for this. Get you dog and go on jogging here if you live nearby to Lodhi garden.
Awesome place
Shish Gumbad also spelt Shisha Gumbad, is a tomb from the Lodhi Dynasty and is thought to have possibly been constructed between 1489 and 1517 CE. The Shish Gumbad (glass dome) houses graves, whose occupants are not unequivocally identifiable. Historians have suggested, the structure might have been dedicated either to an unknown family, which was part of the Lodhi family and of Sikandar Lodis court, or to Bahlul Lodi (died 12 July 1489) himself, who was chief of the Afghan Lodi tribe, founder and Sultan of the Lodi dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate.

Ive been here three timesVery cool place
It is a historical dome structure in Lodhi garden. It is not well maintained. You should be careful while walking around the place. You can go for picnic but there are couples too.
Amazing place cheap lovers please dont spoil it anymore though :|
Historical and famous Shish Gumbad structure and a tourists place at Lodhi garden. Good environment and enough greenery.
This is the smaller of the two Gumbad tombs in Lodhi gardens. It has a huge dome. It is facing the bada gumbad and its mosque. Built by Lodhi kings in 15th century
The Sheesh Gumbad, ( along with the Bada Gumbad ) have been declared as protected Monuments. As per the writings here, it is noticeable from the construction and use of certain architectural techniques, that it features both, Hindu and well Islamic architecture.Amazing!
One of the various Lodhi era tombs located in Lodhi Garden. The Tomb gets its name from the glazed tile work it had on its dome. The Tomb definitely is in need of a thorough restoration work.
Also one of the good to see monuments in new delhi. If you like history and you are not dissapointed if something is not perfectly maintained and you can see the tooth of the time working on the elements or stones then this place will be fine for you. Its not so much visited by tourists or at least when we have been there it was mostly local people.
The place is really beautiful. Great for a weekend getaway.
BUILDING ADJACENT TO BARA GUMBAZ. BENEATH THE DOME BLUE AND RED TILES ARE BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED . MOST OF THE DECORATIONS ARE SEEN DAMAGED. BEAUTIFUL GARDEN IS SURROUNDED. FULL OF DUST INSIDE THE BUILDING
Beautiful environment to have some family time. Do not miss the lake view.
Nice tomb inside the beautiful Lodhi Gardens . Totally worth visiting once !!
This is a good place with natural surrounding, need to maintained
Situated in lodhi garden , Experience the mixed architecture of lodhi vansh and after mughal, tomb from the lodhi dynastyThe Shish Gumbad (glass dome) houses graves, whose occupants are not unequivocally identifiable. Historians have suggested, the structure might have been dedicated either to an unknown family, which was part of lodhi family and Sikandar lodhis court or to bahul lodhi himself who was the chief of afghan lodhi tribe founder of and sultan of the lodhi dynasty of the Delhi sultanateInitially all the monuments were built independently and were not one confine In early 20th century a park was developed which was inaugurated by lady Willingdon on 9 Apr 1936 bringing the four monument in one confine The Shish Gumbad is located in and is a part of the Lodhi Gardens in Delhi India. The village, where the monument stands was earlier called Khairpur. The garden is bounded by Amrita shergil marg in the West, North-West and North, Max MuellerMarg on the East and lodhi road on the South Side. Safdarjang Tomb is situated on South-West corner of the Lodhi Garden
Loved it. Beautiful Place.
Lush green area around the Gumbad in the place of lodhi garden
It also has a jogging track and is an ideal location for a picnic.
Very much good and healthy impression I received from this place and well maintained place. Special thank to NDMC.
The Place were not properly maintained...and the guard was not giving permission to enter
Shish Gumbad (Tomb made of Glass): Is located in the Lodhi Gardens & the place where it is located is called Village Khairpur. It is situated near to Bara Gumbad. It is perhaps the last lineage of Lodhi Dynasty & was possibly constructed between 1489 & 1517. It houses tomb of unknown family. Shish Gumbad is constructed in square shape & is a blend of Islamic and Hindu architectures. Western wall of the Gumbad was served as masjid. Ceiling of tomb is beautiful & is decorated with plaster work that contains floral designs. Tomb was originally decorated with blue enamelled tiles that shined like glass that is why it is name as Shish Gumbad. Tomb today is not well maintained & left to one Security Person. It is being maintained by NDMC & ASI. ASI must impose entrance fee which can be used for its better maintenance.
Nice to see the sheesh mahal.
Beautiful architecture but needs Conservation work to restore its original beauty.
The entry to the garden is free for all and houses the beautiful lodhi garden which has inside it the reminiscents of the lodhi dynasty in form of tombs like the Sheesh Gumbad. It also has a jogging track and is an ideal location for a picnic. The tombs which the lodhi garden houses arent disabled friendly and have a number of steps which one needs to climb to access the tombs.
Shish Gumbad (glazed dome), also spelt Shish Gumbad, is a tomb from the last lineage of the Lodhi Dynasty and is thought to have possibly been constructed between 1489 and 1517 CE.The Shish Gumbad (glass dome) houses tombs of an unknown family that may have been a part of the Lodhi family and a part of Sikandar Lodis court. It is however believed by some historians that the tomb is of Bahlul Lodi (died 12 July 1489), who was chief of the Afghan Lodi tribe and founder & Sultan of the Lodi dynastyof the Delhi Sultanate though Ibrahim Lodhis Tombexists 100 kilometres (62 mi) away at Panipat city in Haryana state.
Perhaps the most beautiful of all the Lodi tombs.
Along with Qutub Minar and Akshardham, the Lodi Gardens was one of my favorite things to do in Delhi. There is located ShihGumbad. It’s similar to Hauz Khas Complex, but on a much grander and more impressive scale. The Lodi Gardens is a public park that’s scattered with ancient Mughal tombs and structures. Kids run around, people enjoy picnics, and artists become inspired by walking and sitting in these gardens. The park is large, and it’s easy to walk around for a few hours indulging in a breath of fresh air and exploring the 500 year old tombs.I found it very interesting and hard to believe that such ancient and important buildings are just a normal part of everyday life in Delhi, really cool! How to get there: I took the Metro to Khan Market station and from there it was about a 30 minute walk to Lodi Gardens. If you don’t want to walk, take the metro to Khan Market station and then jump in an auto rickshaw.Hours: Daylight hoursPrice: Free
