It operates bus services between Delhi and 7 other regions: Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Spread over an area of about 5.3 acres, it handles over 1800 buses a day. Kashmere Gate ISBT was opened in 1976. It served as the only ISBT in Delhi till 1993 when it was transferred to the Transport Department, after which two new ISBTs were created in Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar to de-congest the overcrowded Kashmere Gate ISBT. It was renovated in 2011-2012 by DIMTS at a cost of ₹ 70 Crores and then inaugurated in 2013 by then Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit. After renovation ISBT Kashmere Gate become one of the best bus terminal I see till now. Before renovation its look like very dirty but now it will become wonderful also there are many shops where you can buy clothes, electronics, food items, etc on the station. But there is a point which is lacking that in that terminal you doesnt see the enough digital boards where the bus is standing for your destination.

The more it changes the more it remains the same.As always the entrance is difficult to reach and then it takes long walk to the platform. The escalator maynot necessarily be working to take you to the ground floor and the Air conditioning has been switched off due to Covid. A few rickety ceiling fans and chairs designed for maximum discomfort is you have apart from the noise in case you need to wait. The same old din, conductors of different State Transport Companies shouting their destination continuously. The problem of vendors at ISBT is something that could never be addressed. Only go for packaged food and drinks but only after checking the expiry. Be prepared to pay extra as Fleecing is a norm. Avoid arguments as they are are more than willing to fight back.

Maharana Pratap Inter State Bus Terminal is a very unique concept of transiting between various State road transportation. You can simply board the buses from basics to luxury categories from this place. It has the sitting area, elevators, escalators, facilities for disabled, good display of iinformation on screens, a cloak room and clean facility rooms( toilets ). The staff here is active and has good radio connectivity amongst them.Very nearby is the Kashmeri Gate Metro Station where you can board metro trains to reach out to various destinations in Delhi NCR. The only thing that I noticed which is not so good about is that the surrounding area cleanliness and mess around it, it can be managed well as per its name.

Very unclean, bad crowd, cramped, too much noise. Staff at the counters doesnt even bither to respond to people. Washrooms are very dirty. Packaged food sold at stalls is sold way over mrp and the food they prepare there is very unhygienic. Only one escalator works. Their are people sleeping on almost all the benches so their is no place for people to sit while they wait for their bus. Busses are not in good condition and in super deluxe busses they do not hand out complimentary water bottles.

Kashmere Gate or Kashmiri Gate is a gate located in Delhi, it is the northern gate to the historic walled city of Delhi. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the gate is so named because it used to start a road that led to Kashmir.Kashmiri GateOne of the fourteen gateways of the city of ShahjahanabadLocation in DelhiCoordinatesLocationDelhiTypeCity gateKashmere Gate, Delhi, c1858Kashmere Gate, Delhi, c1865Now it is also the name of the surrounding locality in North Delhi, in the Old Delhi area, and an important road junction as the Red Fort, ISBT and Delhi Junction railway station lie in its vicinity.HistoryPlaque at Kashmere Gate, commemorating the 14 September 1857 attack on it by British Army during Indian Rebellion of 1857Kashmere Gate, in 2008It was the area around the North gate of the walled city of the Delhi, leading to the Laal Quila, the Red Fort of Delhi, the gate was facing towards Kashmir, so it was named Kashmere Gate under British Raj. The monument can still be seen. The southern gate to the walled city, is called Delhi Gate. When the British first started settling in Delhi in 1803, they found the walls of Old Delhi city, Shahjahanabad lacking repairs, especially after the siege by Maratha Holkar in 1804, subsequently they reinforced the citys walls. They gradually set up their residential estates in Kashmere Gate area, which once housed Mughal palaces and the homes of nobility.[1] The gate next gained national attention during the Mutiny of 1857. Indian soldiers fired volleys of cannonballs from this gate at the British and used the area to assemble for strategizing fighting and resistance. The British had used the gate to prevent the mutineers from entering the city. Evidence of the struggles are visible today in damage to the existing walls (the damage is presumably cannonball related). Kashmere Gate was the scene of an important assault by the British Army during Indian rebellion of 1857, during which on the morning of 14 September 1857 the bridge and the left leaf of the Gate were destroyed using gunpowder, starting the final assault on the rebels towards the end of Siege of Delhi.[2]After 1857, the British moved to Civil Lines, and Kashmere Gate became the fashionable and commercial centre of Delhi, a status it lost only after the creation of New Delhi in 1931. In, 1965, a section of the Kashmere Gate was demolished to allow faster movement of vehicular traffic, since then it has become a protected monument by ASI.[1]In early 1910s, employees of the Government of India Press settled around Kashmere Gate, it included a sizable Bengali community, and community Durga Puja organized by Delhi Durga Puja Samiti they started in 1910, is today the oldest in Delhi.[3] The present building of Delhi State Election Commission’s Office on Lothian Road near Kashmiri Gate was built 1890 to 1891. The two-storey building housed the St. Stephens College, Delhi from 1891 till 1941, when it shifted to its present campus.[4]

ISBT Kashmere gate is a busy and popular bus terminus in New Delhi. Although this bus stand is known as ISBT kashmere gate, it is named after the valour king Maharana Pratap Inter State Bus Terminus. This place is connected by road and also metro rail. The entrance is huge with scanners for luggage screening as well. the waiting lobby and seating area has high ceiling. The material of stainless steel and glass judiciously used giving the place a clean and neat appeal. I was heading to Himachal Pradesh and was surprised at the ticket window counter covered with grill with just a tiny opening for conversation or picking the ticket. wonder if its for the safety of the staff to deal with restless passengers. The inter state buses have their individual counters just across the parking bay on the lower floor. They issue current booking tickets few minutes before the departure time. Very organised and the information provided is close to real giving no room for complaint. While waiting for the arrival and departure one can shop for food, books and or miscellaneous travel conveniences. I chose noodles desi style (maggi) and must say the take away was packed in disposable box with convenient fork which made it easy to eat. The on-time departure was impressive, the comfort of the seat and the speed of movement made it memorable first time, first hand experience complete. The ISBT has leave luggage, airport style toilets (almost), shower, housekeeping, digital display sign boards in english and hindi. well informed helpful staff to assist. Parking facility also available here. Well lit on the whole, it is quite safe for all.
