NITI is the acronym for The National Institution for Transforming India.Planning Commission of 1950, was replaced by NITI Aayog in 2015.And subsequent amalgamation of the National Development Council with the NITI Aayog was also doneIt is basically a think tank for the Govt of India & it reports directly to the PM, who is its Chairman. However what makes it different from Planning Commission is that it will also have participation from CM of states &Lt Governors of union territories. Also It has bottom-up approach which will also include village level planning in contrast to the top to bottom approach taken by the Planning Commission.

NITI Aayog Releases SDG India Index: Baseline Report 2018A single measurable Index to map progress of States & UTs towards 2030 SDGsThe NITI Aayog today released the Baseline Report of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDG) India Index, which comprehensively documents the progress made by India’s Statesand Union Territories towards implementing the 2030 SDG targets.Who developed the index? The SDG India Index, which was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Statistics &Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Global Green Growth Institute and United Nations inIndia, was launched by NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar, NITI Aayog Members DrRamesh Chand, Dr VK Paul and Dr VK Saraswat, CEO Shri Amitabh Kant, UN ResidentCoordinator Mr. Yuri Afanasiev and MoSPI Secretary & CSI Shri Pravin Srivastava. What are its objectives?NITI Aayog has the twin mandate to oversee the implementation of SDGs in the country, and also promote Competitive and Cooperative Federalism among States and UTs. The SDGIndia Index acts as a bridge between these mandates, aligning the SDGs with the PrimeMinister’s clarion call of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, which embodies the five Ps of the globalSDG movement – people, planet, prosperity, partnership and peace. What is SDG India Index? The SDG India Index tracks progress of all States and UTs on 62 Priority Indicators selectedby NITI Aayog, which in turn is guided by MoSPI’s National Indicator Frameworkcomprising 306 indicators and based on multiple-round consultations with UnionMinistries/Departments and States/UTs.The Index spans 13 out of 17 SDGs. Progress on SDGs 12, 13 & 14 could not be measured asrelevant State/UT level data were not available and SDG 17 was left out as it focuses oninternational partnerships.A composite score was computed between the range of 0-100 for each State and UT basedon their aggregate performance across 13 SDGs, which indicates average performance ofState/UT towards achieving 13 SDGs & their respective targets. If a State/UT achieves a score of 100, it signifies that it has achieved the 2030 nationaltargets. The higher the score of a State/UT, the greater the distance to target achieved.Classification Criteria based on SDG India Index Score is as follows: Aspirant: 0-49 Performer: 50-64 Front Runner: 65-99 Achiever: 100

The NITI Aayog (Hindi for Policy Commission), also National Institution for Transforming India, is a policy think tank of the Government of India, established with the aim to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and to enhance cooperative federalism by fostering the involvement of State Governments of India in the economic policy-making process using a bottom-up approach. Its initiatives include 15 year road map, 7-year vision, strategy and action plan, AMRUT, Digital India, Atal Innovation Mission, Medical Education Reform, Agriculture reforms (Model Land Leasing Law, Reforms of the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act, Agricultural Marketing and Farmer Friendly Reforms Index for ranking states), Indices Measuring States’ Performance in Health, Education and Water Management, Sub-Group of Chief Ministers on Rationalization of Centrally Sponsored Schemes, Sub-Group of Chief Ministers on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Sub-Group of Chief Ministers on Skill Development, Task Forces on Agriculture and Elimination of Poverty, and Transforming India Lecture Series.[1]It was established in 2015, by the NDAgovernment, to replace the Planning Commission which followed a top-down model. The Prime Minister is the Ex-officiochairman. The permanent members of the governing council are all the state Chief Ministers, along with the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Puducherry, the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar, and a vice chairman nominated by the Prime Minister. In addition, temporary members are selected from leading universities and research institutions. These members include a chief executive officer, four ex-official members and two part-time members.

Planning Commission name has been changed to NITI Ayog after BJP came to power at the Centre. NITI Ayog is located near Akashvani Bhavan on Sansad Marg New Delhi. The institution is headed by Prime Minister but executive powers are with the CEO. Almost 10 Econonic Advisors work under CEO. And many Research Associates work under these Advisors. Earlier Planning Commission was just an expenditure sanctioning authority but now it has to play a role of transforming this country.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a major political party in India which was founded in 1980. The party is a strong force in Hindu nationalism and advocates conservative social policies, self-reliance, free market economics, foreign policy driven by a nationalist agenda, and strong national defense. The BJP, in alliance with several other parties, was in power from 1998 to 2004, with Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the Prime Minister and Lal Krishna Advani as his deputy. It is the biggest constituent of the National Democratic Alliance which currently is in the opposition.BJP is most accurately described as right-wing in nature, with some central tendencies . The concept of Integral Humanism has a special place in its ideology, with the party aiming to transform India in to a modern, progressive and enlightened nation which draws inspiration from Indias ancient Indian culture and values.Bharatiya Janata Party (bjp)is today the most prominent member of the family of organisations known as the Sangh Parivar. RSS has always been dubbed communal, reactionary and what not by its detractors. Sanghs of swayamsevaks have of course always shaken off that criticism like so much water off a ducks back. They have never had any doubt that the organisation is wedded to national unity, national integrity, national identity and national strength through individual character and national character. And today this organisation is poised for a great leap forward. Even its long- time detractors think and say that now BJP is unstoppable.1
