The University of Delhi was established in 1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential university by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly of the British India.[5] Hari Singh Gour served as the universitys first Vice-Chancellor from 1922 to 1926. Only four colleges existed in Delhi at the time: St. Stephens College founded in 1881, Hindu College founded in 1899, Zakir Husain Delhi College (then known as The Delhi College), founded in 1792 and Ramjas College founded in 1917, which were subsequently affiliated to the university. The university initially had two faculties (Arts and Science) and approximately 750 students. The seat of power in British India had been transferred from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911. The Viceregal Lodge Estate became the residence of the Viceroy of India until October 1933, when it was given to the University of Delhi. Since then, it has housed the office of the vice-chancellor and other offices.[6]When Sir Maurice Gwyer came to India in 1937 to serve as Chief Justice of British India, he became the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi. During his time, postgraduate teaching courses were introduced and laboratories were established at the university.[7] Members of the faculty included Daulat Singh Kothari in Physics and Panchanan Maheshwari in Botany. Gwyer has been called the maker of university. He served as Vice-Chancellor until 1950.[8]The silver jubilee year of the university in 1947 coincided with Indias independence, and the national flag was hoisted in the main building for the first time by Vijayendra Kasturi Ranga Varadaraja Rao. In that year there was no convocation ceremony due to the partition of India. Instead a special ceremony was held in 1948, attended by then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, as well as by Lord Mountbatten, Lady Mountbatten, Abul Kalam Azad, Zakir Husain and Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar. Twenty-five years later the golden jubilee celebrations of 1973 were attended by then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, Satyajit Ray, Amrita Pritam and M. S. Subbulakshmi.

Delhi is one of the most popular university in India. And its also always in top ranking university. I am student of this university, this university is perfect in all pursing like studies, extra circular activities in everything. Apart from the lesson study it gives you life lesson and life time experience, how to fight for your dreams, goals etc. The admission is based on the merit based and very tough challenge for caste. The university provide so many opportunity such as improving our lack of communication, confidence gaining etc.
Only Few colleges of DU are good.

South Campus of DU also enriched with Computer center and library. Library is one of good place to study in South campus DU. It has more than 300 seats, opens everyday except sunday, but Reading hall opens daily even on Sunday upto 11:00 pm from 9:00 am.You can get almost every book in library.Accommodation facilities for processors and hostel facilities for students are also available. Education very fanatic and arvind kejriwal is best cp in Delhi
One of the topmost universities of the country. Being in the Capital, students from all over the country come to study here but find it difficult to get in, as the demand for seats very high and local students are given the first preference. The whole campus is well planned laid out. There are many excellent colleges here who impart quality education.
By Mistake I Paid Twice For The Form But It Didnt RefundedI Extremely Suggest Not To Take Admission In This CollegeThey Are A Bunch Of Crooks !
I need to visit Delhi University office to submit a request for duplicate degree certificate. Is DU open for this purpose?

Delhi University is the best university in North India to study as well as to work with. It has exceptionally good academic environment and culture. The cultural diversity of the students here is remarkable. Each and every student feels a sense of belongingness with it due to its outstanding rankings, faculty and administration. I am really proud to be a part of this university...
😊Best university of Delhi
The honest experience towards the faculty and going through a lot of suffering and hectic to take admission and the mental condition which happens because you are still not able to bag a seat in DU is just unimaginable and unbearable. The Faculty might be known as one of the reputed in the whole India, but theres no benefit of it being called as top most if they are giving admission on just merit base which is far from actual intelligence of students.
Best Public University In India
Very good Central University with decent ug studies but better pg studies. Hub of great academicians & researchers. Tuition fees is also reasonable.
Best educational hub in India and education friendly departments!!The facilities provided are immense at below nominal costs. The college are best rated in their fields.
I wont say about the colleges and all , but they have the stupidest Admission process. Especially if you are aiming for the sports Quota seats and aint from Delhi get ready to face some serious problems regarding merit lists , accomodations and what not. Have Fun
Nice
