Al Jawahar Restaurant

Review №1

The restaurant has different varieties of dishes. The staff here are good. I was short of Rs.23 to my bill. They did not mind anything and let me go. At that card swiper is not working. The taste of the dish is ultimate.

Review №2

Chicken chengazi was good, do try korma and mutton. The flavour explodes with every bite.

Review №3

Being a non vegetarian I can say, Purani dilli stands at the top of chart for soulful non-vegetarian dishes . My favourite being mutton nihari

Review №4

The food smelled delicious. Im a vegetarian, so cant speak for the taste myself. Was really tempted, but Uday did control himself. The way bowls were cleaned by my friends, spoke volume.

Review №5

Chicken Tikka and Matton Tikka are awesome, must try atleast once in life...

Review №6

OH MY GOD, so much better than other famous hotels around!Try their chicken/mutton Jahangiri... It was out of the world. Even mutton korma was awesome.Biryani on the other hand... Was just average and very dry

Review №7

The most authentic Nalli Nihari that you can have. Its right in front of main entrance of Jama Masjid. The surroundings are a little unhygienic but that was because of the rains. Better to visit early morning to avoid the rush. Limited parking available for two wheelers. Better to come here in a cab or two wheeler. No space for four wheeler parking.Nihari is made without Onions and Garlic but taste is wonderful.

Review №8

Paradise for non-vegetarians but I can definitely mention a big no for vegetarians (veg dishes tasted too bland) while my visit.

Review №9

Really good food with a decent pricing.mutton korma is must try

Review №10

My overall experience was good service is very nice and the best part is they have space for family.

Review №11

Taste and portion of food is just awesome. Totally value for money with a wide variety of non vegetarian options. The only drawback of this restaurant is, that it is cash-only. Theres one Swipe machine that barely works. So pls make sure you carry cash while coming here to dine.

Review №12

Decent food, if you know what to order. Would recommend knowing your palette before going in. Dont rely on the waiters to give you insight into the menu (dont worry, they are courteous and responsive, just not very helpful). On a weird side note, theyre not very responsive to female customers (there, I said it). Decent visit overall, as long as you know what kind of experience youre in for!

Review №13

There are two Al Jawahar restaurant both next to each other near Jama masjid Gate no. 1. Its the same place where you have Karim hotel, actually the passage to Karim hotel falls between these two Al Jawahars. Its quite hard to comment which Al Jawahars better but the first one has definitely better seating arrangement. The food is definitely very spicy for sure. They would primarily have most of the Mughlai dishes, famous ones being mutton korma, butter chicken, seekh kabab & mutton chap. This ones is moderately expensive however its a good to go restaurant if you want to try stronger & spicy version of Mughlai food.

Review №14

My fvrt place in India for Mughlai Food, No. 1 Nihari, Gurda Kaleji & Chicken Korma and ofcourse Khamiri Roti.Location also near to Jama Masjid, 50m by walk

Review №15

This is Nihari, one of the most delicious thing I ever had.I had it at Al Jawahar, near jama masjid.Nihari, invented in 18th century, during the last days of Mughal rule in Delhi, at the very place I was having it.According to some sources, people wanted a dish which didnt need much time and attention and you could just leave it to cook overnight, hence nihari was invented. If you ever visit old Delhi, please try this heavenly dish.

Review №16

Tasty mutton keema however it was not much spicy. Soft to chew, warm and supple khameeri roti. Staff was considerate too. Not much overcrowding during COVID.

Review №17

Absolutely Amazing and tasty dish Chicken Jehangiri. Very good preparation. Service is slow but compensated by the tasty food.

Review №18

If you love non veg good than this the place to be... I have tried mutton burra and seekh kabab in starter , which was amazing and great marination after taste.. in main course we had mutton quorma and chicken changezi with khambeeri Naan. It was delightful and mouth watering experience. Every one should try at least once.

Review №19

Food is ok, not so extra ordinary as the hype.Hygiene is greatService is goodPlanning for fine dine then worth for moneyTwo star only given for taste and portion of meal

Review №20

Food was too yummy 😋 . I cant explain more everything was good . Service is good . Interior is better than others in that area. Loved the food must go place.

Review №21

Better than Karims, in my opinion.

Review №22

This was the first time I visited Al Jawahar with my friends. I didnt like the Mutton Nahari and Mutton Stew at all. Much hyped place. Many YouTubers give paid or fake reviews on YouTube. Not happy with the food that I ate.

Review №23

Avg food quality & test, bad thing about not accepted any online payment.

Review №24

I went to their hotel. They are so impatient and are there to loot your all money. They have got no manners and they will not let you sit and eat properly. Apart from that the amount of food you will pay here for food is equivalent to 4 star hotel. I wish if i could give negative stars.

Review №25

The chicken here is out of the world. Highly recommended !!!I have no words describing the experience I had, the taste here is nothing like you eat in your typical city with same thing served with a bit of change. Every dish here is a masterpiece on its own. Ive never been so flabbergasted (finally got to use this word) in my life. This place is a must visit, please do visit here if you happen to be nearby.Note: Please take care of your mobile phone and wallet if you decide to visit Meena Bazar after a delicious meal as Ive lost mine here 😅.

Review №26

Delicious mughlai cuisine 👌😋😋

Review №27

Food is good but over priced. There is a bit delay in services.

Review №28

Mutton burrs is best also chicken tikka don’t go with Briyani

Review №29

I tried the mutton korma for 1st time in Delhi at al jawahar I thought this is going to be crazy experience for me but when tried it its so hard to chew the mutton and the gravy was not so special to tell about its simple korma gravy but Im giving 2 stars just for staff service and their good behavior

Review №30

Its a good place to dine in because in the rush of Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid you can get a calm environment inside the restaurant.Food is okay. Not very impressive. If u are coming for the first time to delhi to have an experience of non veg from old delhi better prefer Karims. This place i would suggest only if u want calm environment and eat there.

Review №31

If you want to have the real taste of chicken nd mutton, then definitely this is the right place.Must try Chicken Changezi with kahamiri combination 🔥🤤

Review №32

Food was not upto the mark in terms of taste and quantity. Chicken Korma was below average in taste and Chicken Biryani was just like Masala Rice. Quantity was also just okay. Really disappointed, I literally wasted my time.

Review №33

2 Oct I visit order sheek kabab, shir mal ,butter nan, mutton but food was not tasty sheer mal was served without dry fruits, sheek kabab was very dry n taste less.

Review №34

Visited after reading reviews and watching vlogs on YouTube. Tried Mutton Nihari and tandoori roti. Nihari was okish. But service is fast and waters are polite.

Review №35

Taste is very good .

Review №36

It used to be my favorite restaurant , but the quality of food, the hygiene and service ALL have deteriorated over the years. Today I went there for the last time. I was short of cash and they said their card machine was broken (as usual) … they refused to take UPI payment and made me run a kilometer to get cash for the payment. Pathetic !

Review №37

Dont try chicken keema there.... Other things are delicious

Review №38

Authentic mughalai food, best of traditional Delhi delicacies cooked in age old style...try nalli nihari with khammeri roti...must visit atleast once if u visit Delhi

Review №39

No wonder it is the best of Matia Mahal and its food joints there . This place is the first thing you will see on the left of the lane and I recommend you to try the food here as it the best it will get for you there in terms of curries and biryani.Ordered Chicken Changezi which is their costliest chicken curry (tomato based curry). It was delicious and I would recommend you to try at least once in life from here and their achari biryani are also worth A TRY .I Liked the places for its cleanliness among others on this street and timely served delicious food. For more delicious food pics, checkout Instagram : Chatorian_Cuisine

Review №40

One of the best restaurants in chandni chowk in Matia Mahal for Mughalai and Indian Cuisine.. it is infront of Jama Masjid Gate no 1.. I personally prefer to eat Chicken Changezi and Chicken kali mirch with khamiri roti.. staffs were supporting and curtious...

Review №41

Good taste of chicken Jahangiri! Good for everyone less chilly. Roti is cheap and tasty.quite clean. Good staff

Review №42

Chicken Changezi was Awsome...🤩

Review №43

Expected to have some awesome delicious Mughlai food in Old Delhi area so after checking the reviews and friends suggestions visited this place. However I was not very happy with the food.LOCATION : Its located in the busy lane opposite the Gate 1 of Jama Masjid. The road is excessively crowded with filth all around. I dont know what the Delhi government is doing. This place definitely requires dedicated pedistrain walkways or elevated vehicle passage ways as in No way people can walk without touching each other! Horrible place.FOOD: We ordered Chicken Seekh Kabab, Khamini Roti and Chicken Biryani. We were given complimentary salad. The Seekh kabab was Ok-ish. If youve had the Seekh Kabab at Kolkata at Nizams then you will definitely draw comparison to it but this is no where close. The Laccha paratha that goes really well with Seekh Kabab is priced too high! So we went for Khamini Roti which was fluffy soft roti/ bread and was pretty nice. The Chicken Biryani should be avoided, if youve had any average Biryani in Hyderabad then youll definitely not like this. The rice used for the chicken biryani are fat! There is no flavour. The chicken itself was decently cooked and was good.AMBIANCE: In this shabby area this place was like the Adobe of cleanliness. The restaurant was clean, and washbasin etc everything was nice.COST : Well, I felt the food is definitely not value for money. Its just that If youre visiting Jama Masjid there are no cleaner option, so they are charging for that.SERVICE : Service was good. We ordered Kababs+Khamini Roti as starters and then we wanted biryani. However, both starters and biryani was served together as If we were going to have starters with main course .PARKING: Theres only hardly any place to walk. Forget parking.VERDICT: This was my one time visit. That was enough.

Review №44

Its more than just a restaurant. all delicious meals under one roof. you have to be a little patient while coming here on festive or fav. days.

Review №45

4/5The place is among the few neat and clean resturants u find in old DelhiThe food is tasty and authentic mughlai but not all,I loved the nahari and sheermal, mutton chicken korma are also very tasty ,I would definitely recommend someone looking for a proper mughlai mealI hated the taste of mutton biryani ,other than that daal fry is also very tastyBut if you are to visit this restaurant do have a Serving of thier world famous phirni ,damn damn tasty

Review №46

Nice place for Chicken.

Review №47

Recently i visited this place called fusion curry for lunch. Ambience of the restaurant was quite good. I tried lots of dishes.I tried,• chicken fry• butter chicken• chicken quorma• chicken kathi roll• chicken afghani• butter chickenAll of them was very very tasty. And the presentation was mouth watering. My favorite is butter chicken. The flavour was perfectly balanced. It was that sweet just the way i like.Service was very good. Staff was very polite. Service was very quick.I love the place and i strongly recommend this place.

Review №48

Fantastic food! A must visit and dine-in if youre in Old Delhi!

Review №49

Waste Of Money, Food Quality is Too Much Poor As Compare To Prices. 1 Full Changezi Chicken Price is 750 + GST . AND cold drink is Next level Expensive. It is my suggestion to all of them, who plan to go there and Want enjoy there meal. Please Do not go there. Save Money and go that place where you visit recently and Have a happy good mood with good Food.

Review №50

One of favourite joint to have non veg, I love to be there again and again, I have been there so many times. All the items are finger licking delicious, they serve you extensive menu with wide variety of chicken and mutton. My favourite dishes here are chicken Jahangiri and chicken biryani with khamiri roti, they were impeccable in taste. The most important things for a foodie is budget and its a very economical place to have non veg in Delhi or I must say it’s a pocket friendly restaurant. Worth for money place although it’s a very congested location in Delhi but in hunt of great test, one want to be here again and again. Hygiene was taken care with timely service and staff was courteous and helpful in nature. Ambiance is also pretty fine.

Review №51

Great food , good waiters . Worth every penny you spent

Review №52

Dont miss the mutton nehari and sheermaal, no nonsense place, all focus on great food

Review №53

Good Place Has Good Non-Veg I Dont Have An Idea About Veg Has Separate Floor For Family Dine In And Is Fully Air-conditioned

Review №54

Horrible is the only one word. Simply horrible experience. The portions have shrunk. The staff has been trained in confidence to justify everything, let alone the portions and quality but also how the so called cold drink is to be served at room temperature and that it is OK.Over a decade and a half old association is over.Sad.

Review №55

Loved the view from the window seat. Memories made at the place. Loved the location. Food was great.

Review №56

Famous for mughlai food.Food is delicious.Service is quick.

Review №57

The food taste has become bad just a hyped place dont waste your money

Review №58

The food is really good in taste. I have tried chicken chaghezi, mutton seekh kabab & tandoori chicken.

Review №59

Probably the best Mughlai food in delhi!

Review №60

The nihari seems apt for taste buds.

Review №61

Great food! i had an amazing time and especially enjoyed the payment part, so many options to pay. :)Furthermore, there should be an option to give negative stars.

Review №62

The place is good for dinner. But.... There is no online payment service which kinda ruined the mood. Also, the service is really slow.

Review №63

Very spacious food outlet in Matia Mahal, mutton stew was nice ,biryani was below average quality.Hygiene is upto standard , you can take ur family here for having dinner or lunch.

Review №64

Yes it is Better than karims. Food is good u can taste all the different spices but mutton is mostly bones and less meat.price little on higher side. Good seating areas. Service is bad. And staff is very rude and arrogant. Taste aside avoid this place just because of behaviour of staff towards customers.

Review №65

Food was fresh. Spices were at their level best and were mixed to satisfy our taste buds.

Review №66

Quality and price seems to be overrated of the place. Actually its situated in a prime location therefore prices are very high in comparison to other restaurants of this locality.

Review №67

Half cooked food was served and such exorbitant prices. A big No No to this place. Only cash and card payment is accepted.

Review №68

Well it was good experience. A bit messy but the taste was good. They had good option on menu

Review №69

Good quality foodGood serviceGood testAwesome gurda kalejiAwesome mutton nahri

Review №70

Although the look from road side it may look like some very ordinary but by taste of the food it feel very good. So i was very much delighted with their service. To the point of taste Im verry choosy but this place melt my heart.Hope will meet again if i visit delhi again.

Review №71

The ambience is not that great, the service is fast. Tried seekh kebab, shami kebab and chicken tikka. Loved how the seekh kebab melts in your mouth. Shami kebab were not that great and chicken was a bit dry. But absolutely loved the seekh kebab here!

Review №72

So delicious 😋 food and love to eat this restaurant. Clean and friendly 🙂

Review №73

One of the best place you can go for eat especially non-veg. As we ordered chicken changezi, khameri roti, chicken quorma all items are up to the mark delicious and well cooked. Order will take around 20-25 minutes but waiting is worth it. If youre planning to go this place at weekend try to be there before 5 and after 9 so youll not face any kind of waiting or crowd.

Review №74

Hotel staff behaviour is not good at all. Mannerless staff.Food is fine. We can say good. Rs. 500 for two people.

Review №75

Al Jawahar oldest restraunt in Jama Masjid. We had ordered Butter Chicken & it was delicious never taste something like this before.

Review №76

Really good place. If you are a chicken lover you need to visit this place. Good staff ,also service was fast enough. Will surely go there to try other dishes.

Review №77

Muten nahari very testy

Review №78

Chicken changezi and keema naan was worth ordering. The food was lip smacking and the service was good.

Review №79

I eat chicken burra from here and honestly the taste was awesome, mutton stew was also amazing. Go and try youll love it.

Review №80

Poor taste, hygiene not maintained. I ordered 1 full mutton corma, 1 plate chicken curry, roti and coke. Quantity of mutton corma was less and taste also not was as expected. Chicken curry had 1 full leg piece that too joined, thigh and leg piece, gravy was uncooked, poor taste. And lastly coke was not cold and that too was without fizz.

Review №81

Much hyped than it is. They dont take digital payments and only ask for cash payments. Service is good and taste is average. Price of any item is more than it should be.

Review №82

Delicious mughlai cuisine!

Review №83

Al Jawahar is one among the many restaurants of old Delhi that specialises in Mughlai Cuisines. It’s located next to its biggest culinary rival, Karims, opposite to Gate No 1 of Jama Masjid. The façade of restaurant faces the typical jam packed narrow road of old Delhi. The dining area of the restaurant divided into three floors is decent and can accommodate fairly large number of guests at a time. Ambience as per me, can score not more than two and a half star out of five. The menu offers a pretty long list of Mughlai cuisine to choose from, which is definitely a good deal about any restaurant. Pricing of each item has been kept optimum, not over or under priced. Service is prompt. Now comes the most important part of the post - The Description of Food.We ordered Sheekh Kebab and Shami Kebab for starter. Chicken Changezi, Rumali Roti and Mutton Biryani for main Course. We concluded our order with Kheer in desserts. Both the kebabs were smoky, savoury and very appetizing. There was no overdose of chilli and spices. Seekh kebab was tender, nicely minced and roasted. Shami Kebab, though dry, was soft and delectable.Chicken Changezi, as the name suggests, was Changez Khan in taste. Truly hot and spicy but it was utterly tasty. We ordered half plate of it which contains four pieces of meat. The quantity was sufficient for me and my friend.Rumali roti was very soft and nicely cooked. As it is made out of refined flour so bit of rubbery texture is obvious.Mutton Biryani had a strong pickled overtone. It was utterly spicy and hot. Not recommended for people who cant handle hot, chilli or extremely spicy food. Adding pickle to all sort of biryani is quintessential part of Al Jawahar Cuisine (as told to me by waiter). The proportion of pickle varies in different biryani.Kheer was toothsome and was aptly dulcified. It is served in an earthen clay saucer which adds a typical earthen flavour to it. Can surely be opted after such a fiery, hot and spicy meal.In conclusion I could say that Al Jawahar deserves a try.Important Info:1. There is no parking available outside the restaurant, so cars can be parked a bit outside the main market near Jama Masjid metro station. Parking fee is INR 30 for 3 hours.2. Nearest Metro is Jama Masjid Metro Station. Restaurant is at a walkable distance from there.3. The restaurant has a toilet, but I found it dirty and not up to the mark.

Review №84

One of best place to have food...Over here Food Quantity, Quality and Taste nothing is comprised...Chicken Jahangiri was best and much better taste then that of Karims...Dal Ghost was also good in taste...Had asked for Half Rice, the qty was of Full Rice in comparison to Mumbai. Was not able to click picks... Better luck next time for Photo and other dishes

Review №85

It was gud but i prefer night dining due to lights and rush hour

Review №86

If tou really want to have good taste & soft meat please don’t visit here. Really bad food in terms of taste and freshness…meat and chicken pieces both so hard to chew. Rates are also expensive in comparison to other Mughal cuisines food joints. Worst experience

Review №87

The food was good however we ordered Kadhai Mutton but served Mutton achari this kind of goof up is not expected. There are two Jawahar side by side which one is the real is always a confusion. They dont accept online payments or cards which is quite astonishing in this era and gives them a negative when it comes to customer service

Review №88

It is located right in front of Jama Masjid Gate No 1. Reach Chawri Bazar or Chandni Chowk Metro Station and walk/ rikshaw for 10 min. Went recently in Jan21Food:It is a Mughlai Restaurant. But you will find less spicy than other cities, even to the extent of little bit sweet taste in all dishes. May have to wait for 10-20 min on weekends.Ordered Kadhai Gosht, Roti n Mutton Biryani.Mutton pieces in Biryani were unchewable. Rice taste was okay.Overall you can go once for the sake of experience. Fond lovers of Mughlai, may find it disappointing as compared to Kolkata or Lucknow Mughlai food

Review №89

This restaurant is a very famous one. Mutton korma is super here... must try ... the extra add on curry (only of chicken qorma) was somewhat sweet... and price is quite high

Review №90

This is my favorite place for Mughlai Food in Jama Masjid area. They have good spacious and clean seating arrangement.Staff is polite and hospitality is good. Their chicken and mutton items are fresh, tender and juicy. My personal favorite is seekh kebab with rumali roti but their main course items are also rich in taste. Also prices are reasonable.

Review №91

Famous taste of Delhi 6Must try Chicken Changezi with Khamiri.(8/10 rating)

Review №92

Mutton Qorma and Chicken Changezi were good but biryani was below average. Overall good experience.

Review №93

Awesome experience. Ordered chicken biriyani, chicken changezi and rumali roti. All the items are so delicious and finger licking good.☺☺ Must try the place while visiting jama masjid area

Review №94

All items are good but I like the most alloo gosht here. Try it once. Other things I liked cleanliness and good seating arrangement like good for family and kids. prices are good and portion of dishes are also enough according to prices.

Review №95

The worst and thug restaurant I ever visited in my lifetime. They charge 850 rs for a 400 rs butter chicken but still dont have accept cards or any online payments. The restraunt is unhygienic and the people serving there dont have manners for how to behave with a guest. This restaurant only has customers because of the area otherwise the staff, quality and hygiene the restaurant had would have made it a restaurant made only for flies to roam

Review №96

I tried eating roasted chicken there and it was quite good. Its always good to visit old Delhi and create your memories and eat deliciously MUGHLAI Food all around with some street food

Review №97

In the middle of the crowd near juma masjid, another crowded place. Food quality is ok. Service is fine, the place has not changed over a very long period now. Need some upgradation now

Review №98

So, I have visited this place twice. The first time I went there because the waiting at Karim’s was too long. This time I have visited the restaurant for my friend’s birthday on September 2nd night. The food was good, but the service was slow. We have ordered multiple dishes but the best one was the ‘Mutton Raan’. It took around 20-25mins to prepare and it was delicious, properly cooked, and masala level was also balanced.I am attaching few images from the night too, do checkout.

Review №99

Its a classic restaurant right next to a legend of Delhi (The Karims) food is good better than Karims sometimes Id say and overall experience is good

Review №100

Food is very delicious and staff also did very fast service as per orderGood behaviour helpful .Thanks...😊
