Nice place to visit when you are in delhi, medieval architecture can be witnessed here, moreover Hauz Khas Fort near Hauz Khas Village was constructed during the reign of Allaudin Khilji, and the place has the remains of its glorious past. Apart from the Hauz Khas Fort ruins, the complex has the royal water tank, an Islamic madrasa and several pavilions, along with other monuments. People come here to marvel at the lost beauty of the place, and also for the serenity it offers.Hauz Khas Fort was the part of the medieval city Siri, and the ruins now offer plenty of opportunity for the photography buffs. Locals frequent the complex to spend time among the lush green lawns or at the lakeside. Kids play outdoor games like tennis and cricket here, and you can take part too once you are back from exploring the hidden passages.

The large water tank or reservoir was first built by Allauddin Khilji  (the plaque displayed at the site records this fact) to supply water to the inhabitants of Siri. The tank was de–silted during the reign of Firuz Shah Tughlaq  (1351–88). Several buildings (Mosque  and madrasa) and tombs were built overlooking the water tank or lake. Firuz Shahs tomb pivots the L–shaped building complex which overlooks the tank.In the 1980s, Hauz Khas Village, studded with domed tombs of Muslim  royalty from the 14th to 16th centuries, was developed as an upper class residential cum commercial area in the metropolis  of South Delhi, India. It is now a relatively expensive tourist cum commercial area with numerous art galleries, upscale boutiques and restaurants.HistoryThe water tank that was built during [Alauddin Khalji]‘s reign (1296–1316) in the second city of Delhi to meet the water supply needs of the newly built fort at Siri, was originally known as Hauz-i-Alai after Khalji. But Firuz Shah Tughlaq  (1351–88) of the Tughlaq Dynasty re–excavated the silted tank and cleared the clogged inlet channels. The tank was originally of about 50 ha (123.6 acres) area with dimensions of 600 m (1,968.5 ft) width and 700 m (2,296.6 ft) length with 4 m (13.1 ft) depth of water. When built, its storage capacity at the end of each monsoon season  was reported to be 0.8 Mcum. Now the tank size has substantially reduced due to encroachment and siltation but is well maintained in its present state (pictured).HauzKhas Lake in foggy winter sunriseFeruz Shah who ruled from his new city called the Firozabad  (now known as Feroz Shah Kotla) – the fifth city of Delhi – was an enlightened ruler. He is credited with construction of new monuments (several mosques and palaces) in innovative architectural styles, irrigation works and renovating/restoring old monuments such as the Qutub Minar, Sultan Ghari and Suraj Kund, and also erecting two inscribed Ashokan Pillars , which he had transported from Ambala  and Meerut  in Delhi. Hauz Khas is basically one of the most affluent places in South-Delhi. Not only it is an attraction for the people looking forward to spend some good time with their friends but also a delight for the History lovers. One of the major attractions of this area is the Hauz Khas Fort and the Lake which go back to the time of  Khilji Dynasty and seem to tell about that era through its ancient walls.Connectivity:-In addition to all the perks, this place is easily reachable through metro and bus for public transport lovers. The Hauz Khas complex is just about a 5 minute drive by auto from the Hauz Khas metro station.

The complex is a unique blend of historical significance and modernity in South Delhi. Outside the complex is a hugely popular party place sprawling with youngsters and a vast green expanse in the deer park. The complex has been well preserved by the Archeological Survey of India. It is a photography hotspot as well. The Hauz Khas attracts a number of birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers in Delhi. The place is well connected by both road and metro networks. The Hauz Khas Station and IIT Delhi Station are the closest metro stations. Entry tickets to the complex are priced at ₹15 for Indians and ₹200 for foreign nationals.

This 12th and 13th Century structure built during Khilji and Tughlaq regime still stands erect strong and sound. Surrounded by beautiful lake (made to store water, restored in Tughlaq regime) and green cover, this place gives you a feeling of past. Good place to visit for historians, nature lovers, archaeologists and otherwise too. Outside it’s a lively street full of many joints for food and drinks. Only bad part I felt is poor maintenance (protection) of such historical structures.

I visited there few week ago...this monument is a tourism monument for which you have to pay 20rs before entering to monument. There was a huge QR code scanner for E-ticket facility. A guard was there for checking of tickets. I found that there is a person who is taking 20rs for tickets and taking your information on a register. Please dont give him fee for entering the monument because he gave me the ticket through Bluetooth service. Which can be a copy. He cheated us 40rs for two person. And I would recommend everyone to get your tickets through QR facilities. Dont give anyone any fees. He approximately made thousands of rupees a day. I will report this to ministry of tourism so that action can be taken against him.

The historical complex of Hauz Khas (originally known as Hauz-e-Alai) is an ancient community of ruins which includes a mosque, various tombs, and the previously important water tank.Built in the early 1300’s, the water tank was designed to store rainwater to be used when needed in the dry season. Nowadays, the complex is a public Delhi park, a place where lots of students go to just hang out with friends, and chat while sitting on ancients stones and tombs.
