The Arambag Durga Puja is one of the big budget Pujas in Delhi. Arambagh Puja Samiti here has designed the pandal on the theme, “In Search of Roots” for which they have procured a “small” jute idol of the Indian Goddess from Purulia in West Bengal. “This Durga idol from West Bengal, will be preserved in a museum after the puja,” says Abhijit Bose, Executive Chairman of Arambagh Puja Samiti. The idol has been designed by Gouranga Kuila, a Bengal-based artist who received the National Award for handicrafts in 2002.The pandal has been richly decorated with traditional artworks including Madhubani paintings adorning the walls. Innovative murals in betel nut skins render an element of Bengali authenticity to the celebrations. On all four sides of the pandal are images that narrate the episode of Ram’s Akal Bodhan to Goddess Durga from the Hindu epic “Ramayana”.

From being a small and nice puja, it is more of a commercial puja now. The focus is to keep the same pattern of making a big grand entrance, sometimes in jute, sometimes in clay, sometimes putting a massive head of a bull to putting up statues wrapped in cloth - like this year, and rope in as many sponsors as you can for cultural nite etc. In the process, what used to be a homely affair, is now more of a business proposition. The soul of the puja is long dead. What remains is showmanship, which they try and outdo each year by taking help of the media. Truly a worthless exercise for your average puja visitor, but a great money spinner for the select gang of organisers.

One of the biggest durga puja happens here ..after migrating from Kolkata I missed there durga puja ..but after visiting this pandal I dont feel like Im out of station ... I just enjoied a lot there & the special Bengali food court.. & stalls of ornaments, sharees, Bengali items .. Love to visit every year.. Puro bangali culture bosss

Awesome bhog, but quite cramped and stuffy.As my wife put it rightly, they could invest in a few fans and better coordination in place of more cctvs.

A theme based puja. Every year they do something different. This year the theme is save water. With buckets and pots hanging from different places, birds dying, empty water taps, hands and different posters they have created good theme based pandas. India is the largest groundwater user in the world. So a very relevant topic. I only gave 3 stars coz last 3 years wew better. But with rain being a spoil spot I understand. Go in can dont drive your car as parking is a very big problem here
