I visited the Lodhi Garden in Delhi one more time last Sunday because on the previous visits I missed out on the Sikandar Lodi tomb. This is because the tomb is located in a faraway corner secluded from the main structures like the Bada Gumbad dome and Sheesh Gumbad Crystal dome. The name Sikander is a corrupt form of Eskander who is widely known by his more corrupt name of Alexander that was derived due to the habit of prefixing an Al by the Arabs. Thus Eskander became Al Eskander or Alexander. Another corrupt American short form or Alexander is simply Alex.♿ Accessibility Features:Yes=Ramp access.Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Entrance.Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Restroom/Toilet.Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Seating.Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Parking.

This building is the tomb of Sikandar Lodi, the second sultan of the Lodi Dynasty that ruled over the Delhi Sultanate. The tomb itself is a fairly simple octagonal building and you can only see the cenotaph above the grave through the metal fence that prevents entry into the tomb. The tomb is set in gardens bounded by fort like walls, a precursor to the garden tombs of Mughal architecture. The tomb is part of the ensemble of Lodi era monuments inside Lodi park. It’s not quite as pretty as the other monuments though, but still worth a detour if you’re in Lodi park anyway.

There is a bonsai garden. Slides and swings for kids. Place to do yoga. Open gym and lot more. I didnt like the tomb though, its not maintained properly. Also its full of couples looking for a corner in the morning and taken as good picnic spot by families after morning.

The Sikandar Lodi Tomb complex is a beautiful park with a lot of old ruins. It is a lovely place to come picnicking and/or escape the hustle and bustle of Delhi. There many old tombs around - some of them almost in their original state and others are just an indistinguishable pile of stones. It is a beautiful place for a stroll. It usually gets quite busy on the weekends and it is a good idea to come here on a weekday. The Sikandar Lodi Tomb complex is definitely one of the places to visit if you are in Delhi.

Striking although poorly maintained monument in the centre of Lodi Park. Its a shame its been allowed to deteriorate so much. Much more could be made of the site and interpretation could be far superior. However, it is a nice place to visit, providing a little more separation and serenity away from main part of the park.
