The Ramleela Maidan in New Delhi has seen many of these events. India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru welcomed Queen Elizabeth II to India in 1961 on this very ground. After the dark years of the Emergency ended in 1977, this ground was where Indian politicians took a stand against the ruling Congress, forming the Janata Party. The Ramleela Maidan has witnesses many grand political rallies, but its origin and name comes from an event that happens during the yearly Navratri and Dussehra festivals in India.The Ramleela Maidan was created in the early 1930s as a ground to host the annual Ramleela, a performance that depicts the epic of Ramayana, where the legendary king Rama defeats the evil king Ravana and saves his wife, Sita. Rama’s victory over Ravana is celebrated as Dussehra, part of the larger Navratri festival. In the 1800s, Hindu soldiers serving in the army of the Mughal Empire would host the Ramleela at the Yamuna River floodplains behind the Red Fort. Today, the Ramleela Maidan hosts the same historic celebration, a sight to behold, near the historic Delhi Gate of the old city. Once a pond before being reclaimed as a public ground, the Ramleela Maidan still has a small pond within its premises as a symbol of its history.Ramleela grounds/maidan delhi is located right in the heart of old Delhi near the turkman gate area.Currently its been converted into a giant covid19 hospitalisation and covid center with aground 1000 beds.The grounds are near to the historic turkman gate and lots of opportunities for food lovers to grab Street foods kebabs and biryanis. Very huge crowd on Dussehra. Only one gate open with huge crowd & very long ques. Better to have passes if you are planing on Dussehra. Inner view was awesome. Park, Ram Leela play, Ravan dehan was so astonishing. Parking is not available. You have to park in New Delhi railway station multi story parking.

Geographically the ground falls between the Old Delhi and the New Delhi. The historic Turkman Gate of the Old city stands nearby, and the ground stretches between Aruna Asaf Ali Marg and Jawaharlal Nehru Road.[2][3] It quickly became a popular site for political meetings, with Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and other top nationalist leaders addressing rallies here. A small pond is still there inside the Ramlila ground as a remembrance of its history.

A very famous place in Delhi adjacent to Lal Qila. This is famous for Ravan Badh in Dassera. I have encountered Mr. Prime ministers live speech (Narendra modi) in this ground in last years dassera (2017).

In love with this place during the mela season. The rides are so fun and interesting. I would totally recommend to visit this place during the Dussehra season till Diwali. The one ride that fascinated me the most was the one which turned 360 degree. It was lovely visiting this place

Ground is uneven with mud , bricks and stones all around.Police arrangements are the worst.Public convenience like toilet are not in a condition to be used.No drinking water available.Poor crowd management.Even the Ramleela play that is staged was of the lowest standard.Completely disappointed after spending 2 hours of my time.

The nearest metro is Chawri bazar, not Chandani chowk!The place was alot crowded. We entered around 6:30pm on the day of Dussehra, which was really a difficult task. Alot of people try to enter from a small spaces, created a mess. Everyone was trying to push on each other to get inside.We went for the rides, which were great and cheap (₹100 per ride) but the food was worse. Water and cold drinks were available with hiked rates. Also, as it was a ground and crowded mostly, there was a lot of dust in the air.Adviced to go prepared with food and mask :)

The place around Ram Leela Ground is extremely dangerous for people to walk late in the evening as mugging takes place at will. You can find junkies doing all kinds of drugs opposite the Delhi Police Bhawan! The cops at Chandini Mahal are one corrupt bunch. Its advisable not to walk alone around this place after sunset!
